Because regardless of Simmons' flaws, he is their biggest trade chip. And if they can't get that co superstar in a deal with him, the Sixers are pretty much screwed. They have no other means to acquire one, and that puts a huge damper on their championship prospects. I'm sure Embiid can see the writing on the wall that the odds on him getting a title in Philly are slim, especially with that behemoth in Brooklyn.
Don't agree with this either.
Yeah, if we don't trade for an star to pair with Joel, this season is dead. But at least we are gonna regain cap flexibility. Given the current inflation on contracts, Tobias become at least a more reasonable contract to deal with next season and also more tradeable just with two years on his deal remaining (Specially given that the free agent situation is gonna be bad next season), we can also unload Danny if we want to make a big deal.
With our current young crop we have a lot of options going foward, specially as outside of Tobias we have such a better contract situation next season, Seth and Milton are on bargain deals for example. Issue is, this season can be a just a transition one and we, as every year, depend on what we get from Joe.
You can criticize Morey on how he has managed some of this deals, but he has drafted good or decent by the picks we had and the contract mess Brand left is gonna get cleaned, at least.
