I can’t wait to see Maxey play with Bona as a PnR partner.

Not concerned at all about McCain's shooting. We know he can shoot. I'd rather him show he can do other things well this summer and not shoot well tbh.

This is actually a really fun Memphis/Utah game. Kessler, Cody Williams, Gigi Jackson, Edey, Keyontae George.

Watching Scottie Pippen Jr and all I can think about is how weird it must be for him to have a kid he knew growing up (Marcus Jordan) dating his mom.

Re: **Official Summer League 2024 Thread**
End Game Thoughts:
Council: Right as I said he needed to take over he goes nuclear in the 4th. I saw a few posters saying "he should be doing that as a 2nd yr player." I don't think that's a fair take. We have seen many 2nd year players that don't dominate like he did in their 2nd summer league and those players got more playing time in their rookie years. I also disagree to send him home. Keep him, Bona and McCain together for the entire summer league; let's see if they can gain some chemistry because they could literally be 60% of our second unit during the regular season.
McCain: 15/6/3 - Guys he's only 20 years old and he looks like a 3-5 year vet out on the court. His court awareness and IQ are surreal. He got jobbed on a foul call on 3; but he stay focused and makes a huge pick-off; then hits the up court pass for an easy bucket. I saw at least 3 or 4 plays during the game that just made me think of plays Marcus Smart would make that are just winning plays that I wish our guys would make. Lastly, I loved seeing him seek out that defender on his butt; I wanted to see if he'd be able to utilize that move outside of college and he's got that with a fantastic feel for changing pace in his dribble. I have nothing bu praise for his first performance, aside from the o-fer from 3; but taking that out he was 6-9 with 5 of those coming at the rim.
Bona: I thought he might be raw, I mean why did he drop deeper into the 2nd rnd? There's definitely rough edges, but not once did I stop and say, "ahhhh that's why he went in the 2nd, he's raw." You can see the foundations in place to turn this guy into a solid roleplayer at worst and possibly a lot more.
Aluma: Had a nice first half, seemed to fade away in the 2nd. I'd like to see him flipped with Edwards for our starting lineup in game 2.
Dowtin: If we were still process Sixers or even Sixers squad of a few years ago; I'd say give him a roster spot. On the roster we have now and expected vet mins that are incoming I think he ends up on the outside looking in.
Overall: Loved this game. It got a bit sloppy when we took out our ballhandlers, but outside of the short stretch this team looked legitimate. I don't think we've ever fielded a quality summer league team like this before. OKC's squad is nothing to sneeze at and we handled them (albeit they did miss shots, but we also turned them over a ton). I wanna see these guys stay together for the rest of summer league and see if this game was a one-off or the start of something exciting both for summer league, but also for the main squad.

Ok, Council has clearly improved his shooting. 5/10 from three. He's a bully out there. Kid is just powerfully built. As long as he stays healthy, he'll become a hell of a player.

so yeah....
You didn't have Bane as 1b???
thought his t-rex arms would be his downfall and generally I have always been a 1st or second year over older players guy

Fair. I just felt he was that "fit" guy that was built bigger and stronger so he could give us defense and C&S 3's.
I kept flipping and flopping between Bane and Maxey; so I was stoked when both dropped. Coincidentally, this year's draft with McCain reminded me so much of the Maxey draft. I didn't think McCain would last; but then he started to slide and about 3-4 picks away a pool of about 4-5 guys that I liked were all still there for us to pick from. Just like the Maxey draft, my top 2 options for us, McCain and Shannon, were both there.
Here's to hoping lightning strikes twice for how that draft played out.
PS: For the record, the one time before Maxey this happened was the Mikal Bridges draft. I had SGA 1a and Mikal 2b (I have receipts on that draft so please don't think I'm revising history). If our front office weren't morons we'd have hit on that too. So, good track record for these instances where I love two guys and both slide into our laps.

I thought he showed he’s more than just a shooter this game which is a huge positive

McCain looked strong/confident with ball, pleasantly surprised that he had that much floor game even when his 3s weren't falling

There is a lot of untapped lead guard potential with Mcain. Kid is going to make it real hard for Nurse to keep him off the floor.

McCain does not play like he is 6’2. I love the Marcus Smart with pretty a jumper comparison that someone mentioned.

Refs has to change the way they call the game. This summer league games is like watching Schindler’s list with its duration and pace.
