Especially next summer when everyone craps out on the BIG names, but still have $$$ to spend.

Portland is rumored to have interest in Odom now. Perhaps this increases the chance of a sign and trade scenario if they want to add both Miller and Odom. Who knows, maybe adding a guy like Odom makes Outlaw a little more expendable and his name re-enters the conversation.

Yeah, Portland would have no use for Outlaw if they get Odom. But we really don't have room for him here, either. Wouldn't mind getting him, though.

The cap number has finally come in at $57.7M with the tax at $69.92M. This means that the Sixers are currently $9.4M under the tax (includes Jrue Holiday). I'm starting to think that we may only add 2-3 bench players to this roster and go with what we have.

You always make space for a player who upgrades your rotation players, especially a player who has nice length and can defend multiple positions...not to mention the expiring contract. I don't think Miller gets the $$ for a s/t that would need to include Blake and Outlaw anymore, but if both Blake and Outlaw are offered I think you would find somewhere for them on the roster.

Whether we will have bird rights for Outlow? He's an extremally talented player. Dre and LO "for" Blake and Outlow is perfectly for Portland..

New York Post's Marc Berman reports Wednesday that "the Blazers are interested in a sign-and-trade (for David Lee) and have discussed scenarios with Lee's agent, Mark Bartlestein, that has included Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw."

Believe a team trading for Outlaw would have his Bird rights because it's the third year of a three-year contract and he hasn't been waived or changed teams via free agency during that time. Trades are permitted to retain the rights.

Well, if the NY rumor is true then it shows that portland IS willing to part with the Blake/Outlaw package. Just not sure why they are making the deal for Lee when they have Oden, Aldridge, and Pryzbilla... seems silly to me.

Not sure it's a lock, but they're apparently talking about a Knicks-Blazers deal.

From today's Post, Berman states (near the bottom) that NY is not interested in doing a sign and trade. NY wants to sign Hill, get Robinson to accept the qualifying and for Lee to realize his options are few.

Portland's best plan: Blake/Outlaw for Miller; sign Odom. IMO, Port should have traded for Andre @ the deadline. It would have made a difference.

It's not so silly if Lee would want MLE - extra rebounding, hastle team etc, but 10-12M for player is not a good fit for the team, player has not a great potential. I think our Speights will be better then Lee.

Odom, Roy and Dre - too much point players, imho. Why Blazers is not looking for Marion?

Sounds like Miller and Lee are in the same boat. It might be in his (and our) best interest to just sign a two year deal here. The question is if we resign Miller does that put us close to the luxury tax?

Signing Miller for, say, $9 mill in 2009-10 would put the Sixers right at the tax. They'd still have to add three minimum-salary guys to round out the roster.

Really think the Sixers are almost content to move on to Williams/Holiday/minimum FA at point guard in 2009-10.

i think the combined summer league team shows that the FO is more concerned with saving $$$ than putting a winning product out on the court. i won't be surprised if they do let miller walk for nothing & fill out the roster with vet min guys.

As a worst case for the Miller team if Portland doesn't have true interest in his terms, I wonder if he would consider signing a one year deal with Philly this year and trying again as a UFA next year when teams are flush with money and hopefully, the economy is better. Not my ideal scenario, but perhaps it solves the dilemma of finding a stopgap solution for one year as Holiday gets acclimated to the pro game.
