LongLiveHinkie wrote:So basically Simmons' season will come down to his next scan in all likelihood. I'd guess he gets one right after the AS Break and if it shows it's fully healed, then he starts full practices. If it doesn't show fully healed, then he's out for the season.
I think he's missing the season regardless.
Rumors were that his agent didn't want him to play this season, we excused those rumors as ridiculous. Now, months later, here we are and his agent seems to have gotten what he wanted. Coincidence? Lol...

Yep. Lay of Bryan guys. These guys just want to get every last penny out of fans hoping that guys are coming back this year. I'd be willing to bet they tied hinkies hands and are doing the same with BC. He's obviously no hinkie in negotiating terms but he has never been like this in any other stop.

cksdayoff wrote:wait, i thought they said that the bone fully healed back in late Jan...now it turns out it still wasn't healed in 2 months?
I thought that they only said that everything was on track and there were no setbacks or something to that effect.
I believe that they are absolutely under an obligation to not lie to us, but at the same time, I think that they are also not obligated to tell us everything all the time. I mean what if the foot injury was actually a leave of absence due to substance abuse or something like that? Yeah, you can say it is different, but it really is just medical history of their employees.
I always rail against our media guys not asking the questions because even if the organization is under no obligation to tell us things, if they flat out deny something then that is a story in and of itself. The poor questioning allows the organization to hide in the shadows of the questions. So a dumb question to ask them is something like "What did the scan show?" That lets them get away with saying something like "we are happy with the results and there were no redflags" or something like that. A better question would be something like "Was the state of Ben's foot at the scan consistent with the best case scenario given the typical scenario for injuries like this in this time frame"? If them deflect, then you follow up. You pin them down to a story.
If they said yes to that, then this information coming out would be in conflict with it. It forces them to take a position. If they obfuscate on that answer then they are showing themselves to be obfuscating. The way that it currently is handled is in a legalese kind of way that preserves their plausible deniability. I would hope that our media would be sophisticated enough to get actual clarity, instead of just talking points.
I don't think that the Sixers needed to tell us exactly the status of Simmons' scan, but if they do tell us something then they should be expected to tell us the truth, and they shouldn't be able to skate along with half answers. They should be forced to say on the record that they are not going to answer that question if they are put in an awkward position. That is how you get real accountability.
You ask them questions that only have 3 real answers. Yes, No, or "I refuse to answer that".

If this is true is there really any way the agent can actually have that kind of power anyway? I get that the sixers would honestly concede to the request but I just don't understand why if he's healthy he doesn't want the kid playing.

Honestly kind of makes me think less of him if true. I want someone that fights to get back into the court. Especially for something as meaningless as rookie of the year. Maybe the noise about his lack of desire to compete down in Lsu weren't completely wrong. Disappointing to say the least.

He never was going to play and I'll bet my last buck Embiid doesn't play too.

Re: Welcome Simmons
Playing again this season is totally off the cards....surely.
If he isn't even healed by now then the real issue is will he need more surgery?

If there is an agent with that sort of pull then it's Rich Paul.

Doctor on CSN now changed what was said before and said these injuries are 3-4 month best case, 4-6 months worst case.
Keith Pompey saying scan showed outside part of bone fully healed, but inside isn't there yet.

Cooney doesn't have inside sources. The source could be his relative that he had dinner with the other night for all we know. He did the person-I-trust-source thing before and was totally wrong.

I think it's just too coincidental.

Re: Welcome Simmons
I mean it's very easy to run with 2 narratives here;
1. Rich Paul the power hungry agent refuses to let his guy play so that he is still rookie elibile next year etc.
2. Tanking Sixers don't want Simmons playing so they increase their lottery odds.
Both click bait.
Logic says that if it's not healed by now then he won't be playing this year. The issue is why it's not healed, will it require extra surgery.

Re: Welcome Simmons
Looking forward to it being healed on Monday and seeing him continuing to do what he's been doing before games for the past month.
"His foot is still injured", meanwhile...
Just over here doing pivots and jumping off of it...

I don't believe one thing that comes out of this organization. Sad...I've been a fan since the DrJ days and have never been more disappointed in this organization.

The feedback I've received from our fans is they understand we are trying to build something great. Good decisions come from having a broad set of options and making tough calls. We will do it unblinkingly. We have to be willing to take smart risks-Hinkie

Re: Welcome Simmons
If it's not totally healed, then he's not gonna play. That's the smart move. Added benefits: 1) helps us tank this year, 2) helps us get more playing time for our logjam of bigs, 3) gives Ben a chance for ROY next year. All in all, it would be foolish for him to play.
The only problem is they shouldn't have insinuated for this long that he's going to play. The only reason to do that is to sell more tickets. I see Scott O'Neill and Josh Harris being the driving force behind the lies and deceit.
