Love the deal we made. Also love that we can look back on this absurd thread (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1573184) where that ridiculous Homer was demanding 3+Simmons and making rational discussion impossible. What a shocker that he turned out to be wrong.

If BC determined Fultz is the guy, this is the right move and he didn't give up that much to get him, you do what you have to to get the BPA that's going to help your team win titles.
Celtic fans still shouldn't be upset or mad, they still have the Nets pick next year, maybe Lakers, or Sacs pick in 2019. It's a miracle they've made it this far in the playoffs (conference championship) with their current roster and that's a testament to Brad Stevens ( who coached Hayward at Butler).
Ainge has to stop kicking the can down the street and put a team together this and next year to challenge Cleveland. He $h!t the bed last year taking Brown, Ainge should have at least tried to mortgage the future for Simmons. They need a difference maker to beat Cleveland and compete with GS. It's time to move away from their midget scorer and get 5 guys who can play both ways.
If they don't get Butler, or George, and Hayward this year, the Celtics will be the definition of a treadmill team, cause in three years, they won't have a chance against the Sixers, maybe sooner.
No they won't. No offense, but you really haben't a clue what the FO is trying to do in Boston, understandably so, you dont live in Boston..vice versa for me.
Jaylen will develop into a solid player. He's had like 5 20 point games off the bench. Your assessment of the teams future is pretty wrong. You'll see in 5 years. This team is not building to compete with Cleveland and GS. They are trying to get better each year while the main objec building for the post Cleveland GS era.
And there is no evidence either of our young talents will amount to anything. Like it or not, you will have to get through us in 5-7 years. it will be pretty fun.
Keep on getting early picks who sit the bench, good for them and when they have the 2025 number 2 pick in the draft while getting eliminated in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2024, will their fans still be like "we're building for the future" lol.
They can trade picks and still have some left over for the future, or they can sit still, draft guys to sit the bench, and watch the Sixers pass them by.
Super teams are here to stay, good luck winning anything in the NBA w/o having 2 of the top 5 players in the game. Stevens has that team of good players playing great basketball, but that isn't winning anymore in the NBA.
The problem for the Celtics is they can play for the future all they want but free agents know. They are not going to wait until the 2018 Sac pick conveys and if you aren't tanking then there is the additional cost of either having to trade for elite talent or signing someone like Horford to a max deal because the big boys don't want to wait.
I really am convinced more then ever we nab a big free agent this offseason. Who that is I don't know. Heck in the other thread I suggested why not be Hayward. Why? Because we can sell free agents on bringing in two players.
With the cap not going up much it actually helps us a ton. Boston for example now is kind of trapped. No player who goes there honestly believes they can compete with the Cavs or GSW with that roster. I was listening to WEEI the other day just to get their take on things and they basically said the same thing.
Sixers on the otherhand have Embiid-Simmons-Fultz plus could add two max guys. That looks a whole lot more appealing. We could also bring in teammates. Whether that be Hill-Hayward or Paul-Griffin.

CoreyGallagher wrote:“I play with great players all the time, so whatever [Simmons] needs me to do,” Fultz told reporters in Philadelphia on Saturday. “If I’m running the floor or I’m setting the screen for him or giving it back, it doesn’t matter. I’ll be a great teammate. If that’s me on the bench clapping for him, it doesn’t matter to me.”
Think he's going to be an excellent complimentary star.
I'm really hoping that Fultz and Simmons learn to harness their playmaking and scoring to set the tone for our offense to be more pace and space, ball and man movement rather than iso/mismatch offense.

They're all gonna blow Bryan and pretend this was all his doing and Sam had nothing to do with it (not saying that BC doesn't deserve HUGE props). As Sam Vecenie put it, Hinkie had the vision and acquired the ammo, BC just finished actualizing that vision.

Yeah not a shocker. The guy was confused the the #1 pick doesn't hold the same value each year...A pick is only as valuable as the players available at that pick.

So, looks like it is this so far, question - do they bring over Korkmaz this season? Looks a bit thin at PF. But there is a glut of PFs on the marketplace in this years FA class - who do you like?
Code: Select all
PG Fultz Bayless McConnell
SG Henderson Luwawu-Cabarrot Stauskas Anderson
SF Simmons Covington
PF Saric
C Embiid Holmes Okafor

This is a win win for both sides, for now. Ainge obviously isn't sold on Fultz so it makes perfect sense to get another high lottery pick to move back and get the guy you want. BC sees Fultz as a star like many others do and he fits like a glove next to Simmons and Embiid, so it makes sense to give up a high value asset to solidify the future core. Everybody is happy except the Celtic fans who A) don't want to max out IT, and B) think their team just traded a franchise talent. Obviously retroactively this could end up being a heavily lopsided deal based on player performance and where the pick conveys.

Going to have to give OK4 away, or part of a bigger trade. He's been a good soldier in all of this and its not fair to him. Im getting to be an old softie in my old age

It seems like he wants to come over and we can't stop him if he does. Here is the roster I'm envisioning:
Fultz/TJ/Bayless
TLC/Stauskas/Korkmaz
Covington
Simmons/Saric
Embiid/Holmes/Okafor
This leaves us with 3 roster spots to fill and a ton of cap space to use.
Our biggest weakness appears to be needing some bigger wings. None of Bayless/Stauskas/Korkmaz can move up and defend 3s (they can't even handle 2s). TLC should be able to eventually but needs to get bigger. Simmons gets minutes at SF whenever he's sharing the floor with Saric (likely at least 10 mpg). Justin Anderson might be retained. Henderson should be let go. We likely select at least one wing either in the 2nd or by consolidating picks to move up. Hart and Thornwell both make a lot of sense, especially if we think either can eventually defend the 3. I'd also like to see us put together a deal to move up for Donovan Mitchell using some combination of one of our future 1sts, the OKC 1st, Okafor, or our seconds.
I expect Okafor to be traded and Long should probably be kept. Long was incredibly productive in his minutes, is on a very cheap 3 year deal, and can provide emergency minutes at both big positions while he develops. I'd rather retain him than bring in a free agent PF when we don't even have enough minutes there to allow both Simmons and Saric play there full-time. If you still want another big, you probably just draft one in the 2nd and let him battle with Poythress for a spot.

Missed the 62 pages of what I assume was pure elation. This is awesome. Bringing in the final major draft piece of the process at Boston's expense, I couldn't script it better.

Ever occur to you guys that Fultz-Celts and won't be optimal compared to Fultz-Sixers?
Value of Fultz-Celtics is different from Fultz-Sixers. And I think the gap in value of Fultz-Celtics vs Josh Jackson-Celtics is minimal. But the value of Fultz-Sixers much higher than Jackson-Celtics.

I think we might as well bring Korkmaz over and see what we have. Hopefully he can bring some extra shooting off the bench. As was said above, Simmons should start at the 4 with Saric as 6th man. Depending on matchups Simmons-Saric-Embiid will see the floor together and hopefully it works well. Barring other moves we should look something like this
Fultz/TJ/Bayless
TLC/Stauskas/Korkmaz
Covington/Anderson
Simmons/Saric/Holmes
Embiid/Okafor/Homles
Not too bad at all. I'm really hoping Simmons is able to defend the 3 well enough that we can run more lineups with him Saric and Embiid. I'm really hoping our primary lineup can be Fultz/Roco/Simmons/Saric/Embiid. The sheer size and potential defensive versatility is incredible. If Saric can improve his 3pt shot a bit everyone on the floor but Simmons is a legit threat from deep.

I gave the trade a solid "A".
Sixers only giving up the Lakers pick if it falls between 2 and 5 is decent protection because if the Lakers' pick becomes the No. 1 overall pick then we still keep it and I really do think Lakers pick at worst is probably still Top 10 to 12 so even if its outside the top 5, it won't be much lower.
Sacramento's '19 pick does look pretty valuable but reality is that all it took the Sixers to get it was taking on Stauskas plus a couple other players' salary for a couple years and Sixers should be farm enough along as a team that it won't need that pick that much.
I mean a core of Embiid, Simmons, Fultz, Saric, Covington, Luwawu-Cabarrot, Holmes and Korkmaz already looks like a damn impressive core! Add a couple free agent additions to augment that core and that could be a playoff team within 2 years, if not next year!
