I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think they want to pay BBall+the tax on him+mess with cap space next year.

Virtually everyone matches an offer sheet & it would be bigger news if the Sixers didn’t

We’d be crazy not to match imo. $8M per year is reasonable for Reed & he’s about to hit his most productive years with a coach who excels at elevating players exactly like him.

It's 6% of the cap this year and will be less next year.

If they don't match they're idiots.

Pay a guy $15m in 2024 who you are playing like 10 minutes a game?

The only possible bright spot would be anticipating a $15.7m cap hit for Paul Reed might drop all this make believe "HEY, LET'S MAKE SURE WE HAVE CAP SPACE FOR TWO MAX FA'S" bull crap and have the team bring on actual talent on CONTRACTS beyond next season to make the team better for THIS YEAR.

You don't think they regret Kork?

I don't disagree, just preparing myself for it.

I don't think so, in handsight they never could trade him.

But the idea, most likely, was to sign him for a bag in case they needed to move more money with Ben or another trade

Adrian Wojnarowski
@wojespn

“One of the terms of the offer sheet provides a unique twist: The first season of the contract is fully guaranteed and the two following become guaranteed for $15.7 million if Reed’s team advances to conference semi-finals in the 2023-24 season, sources said.”

Woj's second tweet.

I wonder if I misread what Woj says. Is it the final 2 years become fully guaranteed for a total of $15.7m and not (what I was thinking) $15.7m each year.

They could ship Kork's $5 mil out if they wanted to duck the tax.

They shouldn’t regret the Kork contract. Paying $5M/yr for an under 25 player who has displayed some upside is just a necessary part of team building.

Yea Ainge is totally just trolling Morey here.

Yeah, I misread it for a couple of seconds too, but essentially the last two years are guaranteed once we reach the second round…you know assuming they make it that far.

Heading into the summer, every Sixers reporter reported 3 things:

They wanted to bring back Harden on a new deal.

They wanted to buy a 1st round pick

The one free agent they were determined to keep was Paul Reed

Now granted, each one has their own set of individual circumstances, but bigger picture, if the Sixers can't keep Reed it's just a terrible look for an organization that over and over you keep failing on the main goals you want to accomplish. It reeks of amateurish and unseriousness.

Yeah.

The issue would be the 15 millions the team would pay for being over the tax, but the team is already over the tax as it is, matching is immaterial to that.

They better match that for Reed. He has a future in the league and he just scratched the surface of his potential last season.

Can they match and renegotiate the terms? This just reeks of Ainge using a loophole in order to gain another trade asset.
