The chances of Embiid having a long injury free career went down with this news for sure, and that sucks, but it doesn't mean that he is done by any stretch. If Ilgauskas can come back than anyone can.

Okafor is the big man that we build around now, and that is a pretty great thing in its own right. Embiid's ceiling is still his ceiling.

I don't think that's the case. I am by no means a doctor, but his bone didn't heal the satisfactory amount to ensure that he will play injury free (in his foot) for the remainder of his career. I don't know if there are other factors behind the scene, such as Embiid re-injuring it, that we aren't hearing. If it's just not healed well enough, then I assume that this second surgery will be done to give a better outlook, longterm, with his foot. Otherwise, let Embiid be the judge of going out there now and risking substantially more career threatening injury in a season that means absolutely nothing for us.

I say that it lessons his chances for a heathy career really only because we now know that his foot is in a bad enough state to require more surgery. I'm not saying that the second surgery in and of itself lessons his chances.

I am saddened by this news, but in a strange sense I am actually a little relieved simply because they have chosen a path, and I trust the man making the choice.

The foot after this second surgery should be in better shape than it is today, and he is pain free today. That is a silver lining here.

For me, the only thing that really changes with Embiid is that in March I would have taken the march version of Embiid over the totally healthy Wiggins. Today I would take the healthy Wiggins over the current Embiid, and that is before factoring in the fact that we got Okafor.

I still would take the current Embiid over ANY of the other options that we had at pick 3 last year.
