Another “use picks and cap space to absorb good role players” off-season

Sixers out: OKC ‘26 1st & LAC ‘28 1st
Sixers in: Caruso and Hachimura

Bulls out: LaVine and Caruso
Bulls in: Reaves, Russell, LAL ‘25 1st, OKC ‘26 1st, and LAC ‘28 1st

Lakers out: Reaves, Russell (S&T), Hachimura, and ‘25 1st
Lakers in: LaVine

Trade #16 for De’Andre Hunter (Hawks need to clear cap)

Sign Drummond and Kris Dunn with remaining cap space (about $4M each)

Keep Oubre with Exception

Vet mins: Lowry, Marcus Morris, and Reggie Bullock

Maxey
Caruso
Hunter
Rui
Jo
Bench- Oubre, Drummond, Dunn, Morris, Lowry, Bullock, Council, 2nd round pick

Kel’el Ware

This makes sense to me, but Ware isn't likely to start with Embiid. Don't think he's much of a perimeter defender and we certainly don't want Embiid out there. I think he'd be a great third center to groom into backing up Embiid (and possibly taking over for him in a few years).

Yeah, I read that there are concerns about Ware’s motor, but offensively I think he’d be fine at PF.

I’d like to address the PF position with the pick or picks we have, especially if we choose to sign Paul George. Another option is to draft Daron Holmes, who I think is more suited to the PF position.

Lineup Option 1:
- Maxey
- Caruso
- George
- Holmes
- Embiid

Another option is to draft McCain and then sign Jalen Smith.

Lineup Option 2:
- Maxey
- McCain
- George
- Smith
- Embiid

I would just like to point out that if the Bulls do decide to trade Caruso our offer of a (likely) late ‘26 1st probably wouldn’t even be a top 5 offer. 1st team All-NBA defensive team and shot 40% on almost 5 3’s a game…going to take more than that to get him, especially with his relatively cheap contract

His cheap contract only has one year left then he'll be looking for much more money. By the deadline his value may only be a 1st plus expiring salary and maybe a 2nd or two as sweeteners, assuming he replicates his performance from last year which was an outlier. If he regresses to his normal then the cost could be even less.

For me, when determining what position someone is, it's rooted in who they can defense. If Kel'el and Joel play together, I'd imagine that Kel'el would be in the post mostly since Joel exists mostly facing up, so wouldn't that make Kel'el the center?

The issue will be when Kel'el is defending Giannis, Siakam, Randle, etc, ie very mobile and fluid ball handling PF, he's going to get torched.

You would trade a 1st round pick for a guy that would give you 6 ppg in the playoffs?

Yes, I would trade a 1st for a guy that can lock down a teams best perimeter scorer and score 10 points per game in the playoffs

#16 for Santi Aldama

The Grizzlies move off a good, but blocked young player before needing to pay him.

The Sixers bring in a young forward with a lot of length, steal/block production, and 3 point range that could start for them right away.

Or if that's an overpay,

#16 to NY
#24 to Memphis
Aldama, MIL 25 1st to Philly

I haven't really watched enough of him, his numbers, size, age and team situation just intrigue me. And it's tough to get big forwards that can shoot and defend.

That's the kind of buy-low upside move I can definitely get behind. More of that, please.

The Vibes Offseason Plan:

(Disclaimer: This was for fun only.)

1. On draft night, trade Reed and the PHI FRP for Isaiah Joe.

2. Execute a three-way deal. Philly sends '26 OKC FRP and receives Andrew Wiggins. Golden State sends out Wiggins and '27 FRP for Jerami Grant. Blazers take the picks from Philly and GS.

3. Sign DeRozan with most of the cap space (~$30M).

4. Sign Valanciunas with the rest of the cap space (~$5-6M).

5. Max Maxey

6. Sign Oubre ($8M) with the Room Exception.

7. Sign Batum, Lowry, Covington, Melton, Fultz, and Saric for vet minimums.

Embiid / Valanciunas, Saric
DeRozan & Wiggins / Oubre, Batum, RoCo
Maxey & Joe / Melton, Lowry, Fultz, RC4

* Runs on Sixers/Raptors/Kansas vibes.
* Keep the more coveted assets.
* Buy low on Wiggins (Next AG Bet).
* With JV, big man can finally rest.
* Got the 3 point sniper in Joe.

I'd be fine with this, although trading a 1st to get Joe back really stings.

However, to nitpick... Batum and Fultz aren't taking minimums. If Melton takes a minimum it means he's too hurt to play. And Jonas gets more than 6M in FA. You should be able to get Drummond for 6M though?

Idk guys. I like the ideas but the players scare me. Andrew Wiggins got paid and regressed back to Timberwolves Wiggins. Idk if it’s personal issues affecting him but 1 good season albeit they won a championship seems like the outlier for him.

John Collins is praised because the good playoff series he had vs us. Against Tobias Harris. We all know Tobias can’t handle players same size as him. Hawks been wanting to trade him for the longest. He doesn’t shoot 3s at high volume and can’t dribble. He would help with weakside shot blocking and rebounding tho. Utah wants out of that 26 mil contract. Would give him away for free.

DeAndre Hunter is an injury prone wing. Can’t create his own shot and has above average defense. Probably has missed more games than PG over the last 2-3 seasons.

John Collins is interesting tho. He could essentially play the Aaron Gordon role. Corner 3 and dunkers spot. But unfortunately he’s not the perimeter defender Gordon is. He will get torched by Giannis and Tatum.
