Don't allow yourself to be talked into trading for him.

He'd be cool as a $8m per year free agent signing. Giving up a draft pick for him is absurd.

Highly highly doubt it. It doesn't make any logical sense. For a multitude of reasons.

But I don't see why. The Room Excepiton doesn't seem to trigger the hard cap, neither to receive picks in a sign&trade.

Where does it say that?

The padlock in the second column

The Sixers are hard capped to the 2nd apron, not the 1st.

People should listen to the latest Ricky. They have YossiGozlan on there to explain all things KJ Martin.

The KJ Martin signing and use in a trade works much better after January 15th, otherwise he is subject to BYC rules and only counts as 50% salary going out until then. Give him his bumped-up deal now, let him play till deadline time and you know better at that time what pieces you need and more teams are in a trading mood.

Yup YossiGozlan says the same thing. Unlikely we sign and trade in the off-season.

Technically, if KJ's contract is $24 mil then that would count as $12 mil going to BKN, which is 125% of DFS's $15 mil contract...I believe we can take 125% back since we are not in the first apron yet.

Would Brooklyn take KJ on a $24 mil contract? Probably not, but just sayin it's feasible.

They have no exception to take DFS into.

I suppose they could play around with the order of operations, and do something like McCain signed at 120% of rookie scale plus KJ 20M S&T. But then they're adding a 1st as well? That would be a bad deal.

Just sign three more vet mins and balloon KJ and see what you have. At the deadline you can adjust and work a trade if need be.

Why wouldn't you want him (aside from the cap complexity)? He'd arguably be our 4th best player and fills a need at PF both positionally and fit-wise.

We'd be way, way over the 1st apron with another $15M on the books (have to at least fill out to 14 contracts with minimums).

If that was even remotely true we could pencil in the 2025 second round exit today.

They have to 100% match DFS salary, otherwise they are hard capped at the 1st apron. Which is unfeasible, since they are already over that.

Ah thank you. Sounds like a deadline deal then...

I want Martin back at no less than whatever DFS's exact salary is lol.

You think Oubre and Martin are better than him I presume? I don't think the league agrees with that evaluation. He's a more limited offensive player, but is better at the skills that are more valued when it comes to being a role player (catch and shoot 3s and defense)

The way that is worded, wouldn't shock me if the Sixers tried to get him on the minimum, though he probably gets a better offer.

With these new trading rules, I bet at some point in the near future we're going to see more teams going to a kind of standardized salary scale, where it's easier to match salaries at 100% so neither team gets hard capped because of a trade.

Because the idea of taking a dollar more back in a trade hard capping you at the 1st apron is ridiculous.
