The problem I see is you can only play one guy at a time with our shooters.

You can play more than one of Milton, Seth, Green or Kork. All of those guys are liabilities on defense.

Danny Green is one of the best wing defenders in the league. He immediately slots in as a starter. The last spot will go to a shooter.

Feels good to have a sensible vision forward at the moment, despite the obstacles.

The starting lineup right now is looking very similar to our 17-18 squad

Simmons/Curry/Green/Harris/Embiid with Matisse/Shake/Furkan/FA big making up the bulk of the rotation.

Maxey/Joe/Reed/Shayok/Zhaire? as development prospects. Ferguson (if he makes the team) and Scott (if we don't move him) as bench depth, plus we'll likely see a few other moves between FA/trade/UDFA.

That's a pretty exciting unit compared to where we were even 24 hours ago and we improved our long-term cap situation as well.

Green will also serve as a mentor to Matisse on when to gamble on steals and the proper positioning on defense.

Green is one of the better defenders in the league and Seth isn't bad either. Kork is probably not long for this team either

Unless you think he's getting moved as part of a trade, there's no chance Korkmaz is released. He's on a min deal and is very much playable in the regular season. He's likely going to be part of the rotation as the 8th/9th man barring any further moves.

The way I see it...last season...

PG- Ben/Neto/Burke
SG- Josh/Matisse/Zhaire
SF- Tobias/Furkan/James
PF- Al/Mike/Jonah
C- Joel/Kyle

14 guys with Shayok and Pelle on 2 ways. In theory, bully ball and defense should have been good. Horford costing a lot. Richardson needing to get paid in 2021.

This season...

PG- Ben/Shake/Tyrese
SG- Seth/Isaiah/Zhaire
SF- Danny/Matisse/Furkan/Ferguson
PF- Tobias/Mike
C- Joel/Paul

Still 14 guys with Shayok and Pelle on 2 ways. Much more perimeter oriented team. Maybe a bit unbalanced in that some of the guys may need to be moved in a package for a vet Big. 1 too many roster spots at the moment. But $20M comes off the books next year, creating more flexibility. And Curry as a 6th man, assuming there is a trade for a starting SG out there, locked up for 3 years on a good contract...

Feels good but also feels like we need a new starting SG and SF somehow. Isaiah Joe looking good but likely a precursor to a Zhaire/Furkan/Matisse trade or 2. Clearly shooting is the direction and Matisse doesn't really fit it. If you can sell high on his defensive ability, maybe you can nab a starter or 2 out of a package of Green/Thybulle?

Maybe there is a starter on the way in another trade. But if we do nothing but sign Augustin, Noel, and like Troy Daniels in FA and start the year that way, I'd be completely fine with it. None of these rookies are in the rotation to start the year. But starting Shake as the secondary ballhandler or even Ferguson as the start the game stopper is fine with me. Seth Curry being the 2nd unit shooter, and will be GREAT with Embiid in the "JJ and Embiid" 2 man game.

Curry should for sure start barring any future moves, and Ferguson shouldn't even be in the rotation. He's been awful. There's no way to justify playing him over Shake, Matisse, or Furkan.

I think at this point Green is an overrated defender. Well atleast for my standard. Then his shooting is really inconsistent.

It would be funny if morey saw that the recency bias in Green turned him into a undervalued asset. So he went on to acquire him.

2 shooters - 2 big wings - center?

Milton or Seth
Danny Green or Kork
Tobias
Ben
Biid

I'm good with the Green and Curry B Team, but still wouldn't be surprised if they end up getting shipped elsewhere.

The current roster is also setting up Harris to earn his money as a three level scorer at PF. Better spacing will help and his defense was better last year, though still mediocre, and he was the best passer in the playoffs. He really needs to step up as the third option and a creator with more spot up shooters available now. I really like Maxey's potential to be an impact player down the line, and especially getting to the line, though not likely in his rookie year as rooks don't get those calls. We need to move some combination of Zhaire, Furk and Scott to grab a better defending 3-4 off the bench (Tise is more 1-3). Backup center will come through FA and Morey will look for a spot to move bodies and picks for another major piece down the road.

I guarantee that Morey looked at that 17-18 lineup that was the best regular season starting lineup in the NBA and subbed in Curry for Redick and Green for Covington to replicate that success (with Harris being a significant upgrade over Saric).

Some nuggets from the Morey press conference (apologies if some of these aren't word for word):

"Ben and Joel will be here for a long time"

"Seth Curry is probably the best 3 point shooter in the league"

"It's pretty good how good some of these Ben/Joel lineups were over large sample sizes of minutes" (after being asked about his thought process when acquiring certain types of players)

He also mentioned that our top guys were excited about the moves.

Sounds like we have a big plan with the FA.

Given Morey talked about Doc’s recruiting skills and the nature of the Al Horford trade.

Right now there’s a lot of puzzle pieces that I think will eventually makes a lot of sense.

Some other things Morey said from the press conference that I can remember:

-Couldn't use Danny Green's name yet

-Mentioned that it can take time for rookies to become positive contributors

-He was very excited about the multi-positional defensive versatility of Maxey and Reed

-Corrected the reporter who said Joe was a good shooter by responding "he's a great shooter"

-Said with Horford out, there's a path for Reed and that he brings great versatility for the bench in being able to defend multiple positions while also being able to function next to Joel

Couldn't comment on Green because the trade isn't official yet.

Yep. I'm sure he'd be gushing about Danny Green otherwise. Guy is an impact monster.
