Yes. Because you have small 3-4 and Embiid has been a liability on defense when you funnel the defense to him.
The guards also has to play with a big who ROLLS to the basket or else you’re basically just setting up ISO opportunities for Embiid at the Elbow
it sure is working out for Minnesota.
I don't fully dissagree either...need our 4 man to be a good defender, but also a good spacer. It was one of the underrated things about Ben/Biid pairing on defense at the very least. Ben WAS a good rebounder...and it allowed Biid to gamble and come up. Can't do so now...since one Ben did it to push. Now we try to get the rebound and throw it at Harden and now Maxey.
But thats not a double big system tho. Jokic has Gordon. And the inverse is Giannis and Brook. We have either Tobias or PJ. Neither is athletic or big... moreso we need an overzised wing if anything but I think we need athletic wings in general. That would make it easier to funnell because the ball handler would actually have to try a bit to get into the paint. Another thing Giannis has via Jrue for example.
Basketball is a team sport but not every player is going to be perfect either...so you gotta find a balance and our FO and Coaching staff have failed at that so far this year IMO.
