Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread Part 4
Can't play on the ball. Can't play off the ball. Is scared to attempt a field goal. Gets fouled after inbounds and sent to the line because he's shooting like 30% from the free throw line. Calling Simmons a neutral offensive player is being far too kind. He's a liability.

I like Lebron metrics as they combine data from box-scores (raw numbers- points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks) with plus-minus data (on/off's) to paint a pellucid picture of an individuals influence on each game.

It's insane that Ben Simmons is this (ocean sized) chasm of being a willing 27% from 3 shooter away from being a jacked up and much more skilled version of a top five playoff performer (12 ppg) from this decade.
Ship this head-case out so he can activate his career second wind & be free.

We do this song and dance every new report lol.
I bet the "Ben doesn't care about the fines and other players totally don't like what the Sixers are doing" article to drop soon from Klutch any minute now.

I wish Malik Beasley wasn't such a bad dude and DeAngelo Russell wasn't such a doofus, because I could totally talk myself into that Minnesota package from an offensive fit perspective.

Shouldn't have been trying to make him into a 3 point shooter, should have just been encouraging his aggressiveness, mid-range game and FT shooting this whole time. It was the poor FT shooting that marred him this last playoffs.
Hopefully wherever he goes next they just focus on improving on what he was doing out of college.

I dont care if a person is bad. All i can is if he has value. Because i’ll be looking to trade those two by finding a third team anyway.

Well, I’m 50-50 if Ben will bow down to Morey. Im leaning that they’ll be towards the “f it im rich” approach
I just find it weird that somebody not this good acting like he’s a superstar primadona. Who does he think he is? Anthony Davis?!
I hate to say it but i can see a future where all players have their own demands like playing time and roles that an entire way to run a team has to be built around it.
Even Bassey is making demands and he’s a nobody.
Zion is a promising player and he may turn out to be the GOAT, but I also dont think he should make demands that he hasn’t proven anything other than being good at a small sample size. Then you have Doncic overhauling the entire Mavs FO. You think about long term and it’s just a matter of time before these two guys asks for a trade once a team goes thru a fluctuation of a down year.
The league has to have a lockout to fix this BS. Because if you simulate this, i think it may ruin the league.
The league pampered these guys so much that they’re looking at it as not a team game anymore. This isn’t tennis and you are Roger Federer that you only think about yourself.
Think about your teammates like Embiid and how your action could cost them a season in their career.

I’m quite sure owners are pissed about it all over the league maybe the exception of LA, NY and Miami. And I’m sure they will get it fixed it sooner then later.
Like, owners are way richer then any player. Any. The have the power to fix it.
If player demands a trade like it’s happening now, there have to be massive fines. Like millions of dollars.

At some point, coaches and FO will just be a placeholder. And I think you’re looking at it right now. No disrespect to Rob Pelinka and Steve Nash. But their success is not because they’re good at they do but it’s MOSTLY (not all) because the players they have dictated their fate.
The problem with empowerment is you can’t take it back.
What usually happens is the league/system has to die and has to get into a new body (think about MMT killing fiat’s value and transitioning it to digital currencies). Relax, we’re nowhere close to this but maybe in 20 years.

The only way to counter it for a team is to treat all players as numbers and be open minded into the truth that the rules have made the game bogus that there’s abundance in players who can help you win.
Sometimes you give in.
Sometimes you say, leave if you want to leave.
And in Ben, you tell him to leave if he wants to leave. But first, let me get something in return.

I get what you are saying, but I've spent a lot of time on the trade board, the hard thing with finding 3rd teams in Simmons deals is no one wants the players being moved for simmons. So there aren't a lot of interested 3rd teams.
Other team: Take this amazing pile of assets (crap) and turn it into a player you want on a third team
Philly: Okay, who wants this shiny pile of assets for your players?

It’s disgusting. Especially if you’re a fan of an undesirable location trying to attract stars.
Screw it. Get rid of 3,4,5 year deals. Hit ‘em where it hurts. 1 year deals only so you have to prove your worth every night or be replaced by someone who will.
It’ll never happen but damn the games would be good every night

Well there's your problem, you're looking at a fan-based "trade board." Most hoomans only can process two-team trades in their heads.
For an analytics-based GM, it's just a matter of X-Y-Z. Team A has X, Team B has Y, Team C has Z. Team A needs Z, Team B needs Y, Team C needs X. Now scale that. If X=1, Y=2, Z=3, trade-pieces are in the form of numbers down to the decimal point so for instance a 2nd round draft pick is worth .7 points where a first round is worth 1. Ben Simmons has a cumulative score of say 5 (5 is the sum of his associated skill levels, APG, PPG, defense, etc). You look art each team and find their weaknesses and apply that to who you get in a trade. Something like that. Source: EA sports.

Wouldn't this eviscerate small markets and maybe even markets like ours that are large but not the most desirable in comparison to LA/MIA/BKN?
Like, would Zion, Lebron, Melo etc etc. stay with the bad small market team they were drafted by if there max deal was 2 years? Having that rookie contract and then (almost) guaranteed 2nd contract is the only thing that keeps small markets afloat imo.

Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread Part 4
lol the contract length is more for the smaller markets than anything.
The best players wouldn't mind being able to hold decision level events every FA.
Yall need to get over this idea that the team can just own players for as long as they want. If a dude wants out...he wants out. Its not really the normal boss/ employee relationship and more of a partnership if anything. Both sides need the other and thus each side gives and takes. Whining about how these players don't want to play in certain cities or only for certain situations is pointless. These dudes are young millionaires with great gifts...that comes with being able to make choices/demands that us not young millionaires with little to no gifts can't make. Thats life lol.
Ben asking out sucks because he needs to look in a damn mirror and realize he is the problem...BUT even if he did do that, him getting a fresh start elsewhere is probably for the best for both parties at this stage. AD asking out was the correct choice, not even using hindsight because the Pels weren't going to build a contender around him. Harden asking out was also correct because that team was capped out. Bron leaving the Cavs the first time made total sense because of similar reasons. Now each of these guys went about it in the worst ways...so they deserve heat for that but if you take a step back...you can understand their issues.
I think a lot of fans are simply too close to their respective teams that they take "player wants out" as "player hates me and everything I stand for" lol.
tldr: you are never going to be able to force people to stay in situations they don't like. No ammount of rule changes will help that.
