He is probably laser focused on winning a title, and is drowning out the noise. Also have you seen his gf? He's probably having some crazy ass sex. I'd probably want to do that instead of paintball.

Like I’m not saying it was bad or good, just kind of weird.

He went from being one of the most vocal social media athletes in the league to being silent. I know people who always saw him out in the city even something as simple as playing at local courts, this summer I didn’t hear a peep.
The entire team went paintballing the other day, except for Embiid.

I’m just confused what he was up to.

According to a link in the Tom Moore thread he still has knee tendonitis from last year, has had limited basketball activities and may again start the season on minute restrictions. This was the first I heard of it.

Here is the Embiid injury article. https://www.buckscountycouriertimes.com/sports/20191001/moore-sixers-take-first-step-in-what-they-hope-will-be-journey-to-nba-title

The Embiid bit -
“Embiid is still recovering from the knee tendinitis that bothered him late in the regular season and in the playoffs. His basketball activities were limited this summer and he said he was held out for part of Tuesday’s practice, none of which the media got to see.

“It’s going to take some time to get back on track, get back to the flow of the game,” said Embiid, who had his hair in braids.

While it’s too early tell, Embiid could conceivably start another season on a minutes restriction. He said he plans on playing more than the career-best 64 games he logged last year. “

Tom might have misconstrued what Joel said.

This is what Bodner said in his Athletic article.

Joel Embiid said the team limited his activities during practice, but it sounds like it’s just to progressively ramp up his activities, as he spent much of the summer rehabbing from the tendinitis that plagued his left knee last year during the playoffs. “I’m feeling great,” he said.

Progressively ramp up sounds like it's healed but they're just slowly bringing things back up.

Oh great, I thought he was fully healthy this offseason, now we know he hasn't been able to improve his game as much as he could had he been fully healthy. At least he will be less tired at end of games thanks to his improved fitness level, but that wasn't the only issue to why he struggled on offense.

this is why I don't buy "the best shape of his life" narrative.

he's always going to be dealing with nagging injuries, always going to be missing games and not being in ideal game shape.

He looks and sounds so content in his interviews. More so than usual. It's not difficult to see why.

I mean, it is a low bar to clear, he was never in good shape, when he was in HS he was weak and was being pushed around, and when he got the injury predraft until this offseason he had low conditioning pretty much always. So being in the best shape of his life is almost for sure true, but this could mean it was bad before and it is about average now.

I think people get confused about Embiid’s conditioning. The guy had no issue playing as many minutes as any center in basketball for most of the year, to the point that he apparently suffered an overuse injury. The conditioning was only an issue when he had to miss like a month Immediately before the playoffs and had to try to get back in shape in the middle of a playoff run. (Which actually happened both years now that I think about it)

His issue is really getting out of shape too quickly when he doesn’t play for a period. Even when he just misses a game or two you can tell he’s a little sluggish at first. If they can get that ironed out, pace his minutes better, and he’s actually healthy and peaking in the playoffs for once I have a feeling these conditioning concerns will go away.

I have a feeling that when Horford and Biid are on the court, Biid plays the 4. Biid might even be defending 4s in some cases.

They will have the flexibility to mix and match. Horford and Embiid can play together the way that we had always hoped that Embiid and Okafor could play together.

Horford>Okafor defending 4's in space
Horford>Okafor spacing the floor on offence.
Horford>Okafor protecting the rim when Embiid isn't there

True. Who knows.. maybe 3-5 years from now Jah turns it around and return.

Its just I was watching Horford move, and I see his speed as average at best at 4. His shot has a slow release and i dont know if he can attack close out against 4s with his speed.

He was one of the best in the league at guarding Giannis last year. I'm not too concerned about his ability to hang with 4s.

You don't have to have a quick release to space the floor. He has to be guarded out there and that means that he will draw defenders away from the paint.

Plus, even if he his speed is average at the 4, his length, brains, and effort level are all above average. He can defend the 4 for most of the league unless the other team goes really small, but they can't go really small if we have Embiid at the 5 and Horford at the 4.

Unless you were the Warriors of the past few years you aren't going to get away with going very small against us. We will kill you on defense, the boards, and in the half court. Your only shot would be to get out in transition and play ultra fast, but Simmons is one of the fastest players in the league, and if you try going up and down all game you are going to get a butt load of Simmons coming down the throat of your defense.

For the first time maybe ever we are going to be a match up problem for every team in the league. Every coach will have to specifically gameplan to deal with us. We will dictate the style of play more than other teams will be able to exploit it.

Joshua Richardson is pretty fast too in transition on both ends. I love that he is barely being talked about.

I really wish Embiid was a bit wiser with his words. It's great to see an honest superstar, but overt transparency isn't always best.

"We talk a lot, that’s my guy, that’s my brother forever. I wish he was still on the team, because I feel like the relationship that I built with him could have gone a long way. When it was the fourth quarter, we knew the ball would either be in me or Jimmy’s hands. I knew I could count on him. This year it kind of changes around. Now other guys have to step up and I have to do more."

The last part just sounds a bit whiny and ungrateful for the team we've got going into this season.

He wears his heart on his sleeve. I agree it's a little cringy. He's been a consummate team mate his whole career though. I'm sure he'll embrace the new additions soon.

Why are people surprised that Joel isn’t thrilled that we let arguably the 2nd best player on the team and our clutch stone cold killer walk in free agency?
He was called the adult in the room for a reason.

I agree, that’s not helping the team moral in any way.
He’s probably saying that just to be polite, and scared.
