If it wasn't James and the Lakers, I'd believe that this was a joke.

So the Hawks win the lottery. A sign that Trae will be gifted to LeCorn and LA?

Silver and Pelinka are going over the details as we speak.

Toronto dropped to 8th and therefore conveyed their pick to San Antonio. In exchange for Jakub Poeltl.

People regrets we traded Mikal for Zaire that infamous draft, but the real crime was not drafting Shai.
Perfect complement in a backcourt with Simmons.

True, but I give a slight pass for that because Shai made it clear he didn't want to be here. The fact is that a plug-and-play guy at a position of dire need was here at a win-now time, and we shipped him out for a project and trade asset based on prospective rule changes. And that position never ceased being one of dire need, to this day. Worst non-Tobias related move of the post-Process.

Re: Around the League: 2023-24 Season
Regarding Zhaire or Jaden Springer..
How can a guard with sub-par at high valued guard skills, specifically sub-par perimeter scoring, be considered "star hunting" at the guard position?
A lot of drafting is about chances, and I believe you have a good chance of success if the draft prospect's strengths align with the desired attributes for his position. For instance, at the guard position, the value of defense is not as high as the value of perimeter scoring. Therefore, you would find much more success drafting a player like Trey Burke or Colin Sexton than a player like Zhaire Smith or Jaden Springer in every draft.
Since I have that mindset, I feel more confident about determining the success rate of these draft prospects.
P.S. I have long said to sell high on Giddey

My guess for Springer was that he was the leading scorer on UT at the time, was a blue chip HS recruit who showed scoring chops, and was already elite on defense. Mix in him being super young and you can see why they took the chance.
I’m sure they had similar feelings about Zhaire who, IIRC, just went on a final four run. But he had way less markers to be excited about and was also not a real wing player. Definitely not an on ball guy.

Zhaire wasn't the star hunting piece, it was the extra pick. And it did land us a star, Tobias Harris.

Springer was the classic one and done who shouldn't have been, much like Julian Philips. The tools were there, but they needed another season of refinement in a structured system. With NIL, it might have happened.
You could almost say the same for Keon Johnson and Kennedy Chandler.

Yeah, take the guy anyway.
IIRC, the bigger issue was SGA wanted LA though.
And to me, the absolute crime of the Bridges trade wasn't the trade itself, but the fact they traded that Miami pick they gained for f****** Tobias Harris.
Brand basically killed 6 years with one fatal trade and doubling down on that disaster by giving a gigantic contract to justify said trade.

Not a Giannis critic, but that entire season was almost as plastic as LeMickey's Summer Bubble Tournament.

Looks like Cavs will have to pick between Don and Garland. Who would you guys rather have for building a contender (not just selling tix)?

I would rather have Garland. JMO.

Garland, easily. He has a complete offensive game, while Mitchell is a scorer and a ball stopper.
Besides, Mitchell will never be a hotter commodity than he is right now, and if the Cavs are smart and patient, moving Mitchell in one trade and either Mobley or Allen in another would set them up for the next half-decade plus. The Allen-Mobley frontcourt has proven it can't succeed beyond the regular season, but keeping one of them (I would keep Allen) and plugging in a real stretch-4 would open that offense up.

I would move Mitchell and Allen, but fully agree on the idea for the Cavs here.
