Re: Sam Hinkie steps down per Marc Stein
We need to scream NEPOTISM every chance we get.
But I will always be a Sixers fan. It's just in the blood.
So bummed Sam wasn't allowed to see this through. Embiid's second surgery and the Lakers taking Russel **** everything up.

Re: Sam Hinkie steps down per Marc Stein
So y'all know I'd soured on Hinkie a while back. I think part of this is his own making. He overdid it. He lost the plot and opened the door for Colangelo to come in and do his thing. That said, this is nepotism of the worst sort and I can't stand it. To have gone through the **** we've gone through and end up on the other side with Bryan **** Colangelo left in charge of cashing in the assets makes me sick. Especially when Danny Ferry was out there for the taking and is clearly the superior GM. More then likely we just wasted 3 years for nothing.

This is just more proof that terrible orgs will always be terrible orgs, no matter who they hire or who they draft. Cavs got 3 number one picks in 4 years, LeBron James rejoined, and that clown org is still somehow **** things up. Hinkie was the only guy in Philly who knew what he was doing, and this clown org wanted to cut him off at the knees. **** always slides down from the top. No reason to believe in the Sixers anymore.

Hinkie sort of brought this on himself.
Part of your frustration should be based towards him, even if you think he had the right overall plan as a GM
dude was a socially inept wimp, who allowed the narrative surrounding the Sixers to get out of control and had no idea how to be a GM outside of the basketball aspect of it. Made zero effort to put any veterans on the team or even give the impression he cared about surrounding the 19 year olds with vets. which he could have easily done without sacrificing the process at all.
There is a lot more to it than signing Elton Brand and starting Carl LandryI don't disagree that Hinkie had some shortcomings when it came to dealing with people and tying up some loose ends, but you can't seriously believe this is a step in the right direction.
hiring Bryan Colangelo (if true) sucks really bad. not gonna disagree with that at all.
just not gonna protest the team because Sam Hinkie is leaving either. it's 2 different arguments to me

So Hinkie apparently frustrated his own staff a lot too?

(even if they undermined him a little bit) which sucks for him I understand that. but jesus man, we're coming off a 10 win season, 3 years into a rebuild
did he really believe he was just going to get 10 years to do whatever the hell he wanted with no repercussions?
But if that three headed monster (well, 2 headed monster, and Hinkie) were to suck, then it would be Hinkie as the fall guy.
Let it be clear, the Sixers called Hinkie's supposed "bluff", Hinkie drops out, still a top GM prospect with bottomfeeders probably dying to pick him up. They'd be stupid not to.
I'm not jumping off the bandwagon, I think we can win and keep this ship in the right direction. I just kinda feel like UNC felt the other night right now.
I think really the only saving grace is that Brian has to probably run all his decisions through his daddy first which despite the issue I have with the way Sam was treated is a very good executive.
His track record in PHX was actually not bad which is why he was given the TOR job to begin with.
While daddy has a great track record, he's also pushing 80. Soon it will be Brian's World and we will all be, sadly, living in it. Hopefully we will be crushing it at that point to where he couldn't screw it up.
I really feel like a part of my Sixer fanhood left me tonight. This is simply outrageous.

I also think Hinkie has like zero shot to get a GM job in the next couple years.
i think you all really overestimate his popularity around the league. His problems in the NBA run deep.
the stories are gonna start leaking now that he's out.

****.
I have no faith in this organization anymore. I'll still be a Sixers fan, but I will not be holding out hope for success in our future, unless the reports of Bryan Colangelo coming to Philadelphia are wrong.

Bucks fan here you all are welcome on our bandwagon if you choose. The Greek Freak/Parker sure are fun although I am none too confident in our GM/Coach. On a side note how about sending one of Noel/Embid our way for MCW. Just think MCW is just a three point shot away from greatness.

Bucks fandom bringing me happiness still seems like a dream.

lol, you quoted a low level dude who works for the Sixers, and probably got his break by Hinkie hiring him.

Agreed. Has the league ever had to step in, in any league before, because of the inept moves to build a roster by a GM before? We weren't just bad, we were a laughingstock. All the guys who were in GDT telling people to leave if they didn't like it, now all crying about not being fans? Cya. I root for the team, always will root for the team. Hinkie won't be a GM anytime soon.

We couldn't even get Danny Ferry....who actually has a past relationship with Brown from the SAS days....
