The fact that Brand and company traded 2 firsts and Shamet for a 3 month rental for the privlidge to then pay him the 5 year near max is unconcious. They should have been all fired for that trade.

When Harris refused the 4 year 88 million extension the Clippers offered him at the start of that season I thought he was crazy. Somehow he found a team dumb enough to give him 5 years 180 million.
Definitely a very dumb move and makes things harder, but they would definitely be a contender if they had Embiid and someone like Lillard.

Obviously with hindsight, but makes you wonder how this team would have looked if they just kept Butler, fired Brown (happened anyway), traded Simmons (going to happen) at max value and held onto or traded those assets they ended up using for Tobias on complimentary pieces instead.

At least we can be happy Morey is in charge now.

Once you trade for Lillard you would have Lillard and Embiid making 65-70% of the cap. At that point you are far better off allocating the remainder or the cap on good midsized salaries instead of giving Tobias 30% of the cap.

For example Bogdan and Bojan combined make the same salary as Tobias. Does anyone doubt we would be a better team with those two instead of Tobias? And people called the two Bogdanovics overpaid when the signed their contracts.

Never pay a max contract to a dude you cant build around.

Oh yeah. No doubt, I would trade Tobias for some complimentary level pieces in a heartbeat. However, I'm not sure how easy that is. My point is that they would still be a contender.

I was thinking about this a while ago.

A good trading partner would be the Pacers.

Pacers is looking to go small. They almost traded Turner for Hayward.

We probably could trade Tobi for Turner or TJ Warren and a pick then ship Turner or TJ Warren to a third team.

If you need a pick for a make or break deal for Dame, this is a trade you probably can do

I think the Turner for Hayward offer was specifically because of Gordo. Otherwise they don’t offer it. Also Indy has taken a bath during COVID and Tobias’s salary would be real hard for them. For a guy like Ben they will eat the salary because it will help them generate more revenue.

How bad is something like this?

Porzingis and Richardson to Charlotte
Tobias and Monk S&T 3-36 to Dallas
Washington to Philly

?

Why didnt you just trade Tobi straight for Washington?

Not a fan of washington i think it will just lead us go sideways

I assume CHA would rather have Porzingis. And DAL should be good with moving on from those two.

Him included for Lowry or CJ trade if we can't trade Ben for Dame or Jalen Brown. Tobi for Kyrie is a pipedream. I'm desperate enough for Kemba , Wall or Westbrook.

I just feel like Ben and Joel with a elite creator is putting us on another level.

I think a framework of tobi for barnes + hield is one of the better likely trades.

It could look something like:

PHI IN: barnes, lowry
PHI OUT: harris, 2022 lotto protected first, shake milton

SAC IN: tobi
SAC OUT: hield + barnes

OKC IN: hield + shake
OKC OUT: nothin’

TOR IN: sixers first
TOR OUT: lowry s&t

We are an instant contender with this deal. I don’t mind a walker/Marcus Morris return for him either in a 3 teamer

Couldn’t agree more, at the very least it will sky rocket Ben’s value, but I think we are a true contender if we can turn tobi+ anything that’s not Maxey into an elite creator

I really like kemba’s fit on the sixers, but his knees might be toast.

Yeah, I really like this trade if we keep ben. I also think it makes sense for every team. For anyone skeptical that the kings would take on tobi’s borderline albatross, keep in mind their cap situation doesn’t change much if they make this trade, since they get off buddy’s big 3 year/63m dollar deal. 6’4 buddy doesn’t really belong on a team with fox and haliburton. Tobi is a much better iso scorer than barnes. A big 3 of fox, hali and tobi seems like playoff material.

Also, sidenote: if the sixers did this, they would have no shot of resigning danny. I probably should’ve thrown in a first for OKC instead of shake in that case.

Rules in trading for Tobi or Ben
- players shall be durable because Embiid is not
- players shall be able to take over games because Embiid may not play on certain games

Thats the problem with our team. We keep building a team “with embiid” thats why we keep collapsing when we play without Embiid.

For instance last season, why sign Dwight Howard if Ben stays when you can’t play both guys together? Who do we go to on offense when Embiid suddenly goes into “low batter mode” in crunch time?

No Lowry.
No Kemba.

If you can’t find a good player in return, then might as well get a high draft pick and a playable vet then let Morey do his moreyball with a transitionary team like last season.

Completely agree, but to me a clean Tobi for CJ is still the simplest route to beginning to improve this roster. From that point, we deal from more of a position of strength with regard to Simmons, as the desperation to move him is mitigated to a good degree.

My fear is that the bridges have been burned to the point that bringing Simmons back isn't an option, which doesn't help in trying to hype his value as we commence the off season.

I don't think Portland will do it without something attached or some more moving parts. I have CJ ad the better player on a better contract. I think that Harris+Thybulle for CJ+something is likely the move that gets both teams on board. Maybe it's just a 1st rounder, or some player.

I've been on board with CJ+RoCo for Tobias+Thybulle+1st rounder. Though I think that's dependent on Portland having something lined up with DJJ+picks. CJ for Tobias is a leap forward for Philly but it's lateral for Portland. The deal would likely make a lot more sense if Philly is providing something that Portland could desperately use and Thybulle provides that.

I don't like the CJ for Harris straight up deal because it's only viewing the transaction through one team's lens. Portland's going to want to expand this deal into something that grabs other pieces they like that compliment the team. I'm not even sold that Tobias actually makes Portland better than CJ, and I'd argue that if he does, it's by an utterly negligible amount. I think CJs fit vaults The 76ers upwards. I think a neutral lens would show that Portland wants more upside in the transaction.

The Blazers have been in such need of generating scoring production out of the F spot that they've been relying on an athletically-washed Carmelo Anthony for a couple years now. He's 37.

I feel like Harris would be a breath of fresh air for them.

Good points - I'd sign for Harris/Thybulle/#28 for CJ and RoCo right now. I wouldn't give up Thybulle without getting Covington back, but that deal makes the Sixers instantly better.

I can't get behind the RoCo love at the cost of Thybulle. While RoCo is a great defender, i remember being so frustrated by the occasional bone-headed fouls that he'd get called for when he gambled, and his ice-cold shooting streaks that led to the boo-birds coming out strong.

IMO (which is admittedly worth very little!) I'd rather have keep Thybulle around.

Also, one of the reasons i think a CJ for Tobias works straight up (even though i think Tobi is the better player) is that we save some money to help in resigning Green and using the MLE.

Portland needs the forward help. Sixers need the guard help. Each of them are on bad contracts. If you want #28 to make up the 5M difference, that will be fine.
