Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Think it's also that they try to put the best players in the All NBA team, regardless of what position.
In this year's case, I can imagine them taking LeBron and Giannis as F and Davis as C.
If they don't do that, they have to leave 1 of those 3 players out, don't think they will do that.
They all deserve it also a little more than Embiid at this point too, imo.

How about Defensive Player of the Year? Do you guys think there is someone who is close to Embiid with that award?

Defensive player of the year award is so subjective. Often times based on previous player history and bias than real performance.

Depends if he gets extra money if he wins that award, because if he does I have a candidate or two in mind.

How sad really, wishing our best player not to win MVP or first team just because selfish reasons. If he wins it (he will not) then it means he is amazing and deserves that money.

Two things he needs to work on to go from being an allstar to one of the all time great is his postgame and 3PT shot.

Maybe there's something more to Embiid's free-throw issues. If you subscribe to the athletic check out this link.

If Gobert and the Jazz finish on a tear and Gobert doesn't miss any more games, I can see him being the biggest competition for Embiid. He did miss a lot of games earlier in the year though.

Well, the all NBA selection process has changed through the years. Felt Charles Barkley got screwed out a couple of first team all NBA forwards cause the writers chose Chris Mullin/Scottie Pippen cause they were more "small forward" type of selections and obviously Karl Malone got the other forward "power forward" selection. So writers probably chose Karl Malone, probable thought process was Barkley was the 'power forward" thus relegated him to second team. So Mullin/Pippen got the first team all NBA forward other slot.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
This is old news, and I really thought it was Embiid being facetious, but my god Simmons really needs to develop a 3 point game. People are clamoring for Joel to play closer to the basket? Well, now we know why that's not happening. Brett Brown is advocating for 6-8 3s per game?
Ughghghgh... Yeah Joel can make them on occasion, but he's so much more effective. Enough with the BS about this being a 3 point league, and that's where the league is heading. BS, the reason the league headed that way was because there weren't any true centers left in the game. I get that Joel is a unicorn, but this will really be detrimental to his game. He doesn't even have a refined post up game. He can get so much better in that department. I want him spending his summer on his post moves, training with the likes of Kareem and Hakeem. Not trying to be Steph curry.
I'll say it again, as good as Ben Simmons is, and I think he has it in him to be a good 3 point shooter eventually, that day cannot get here soon enough. To minimize the efficiency of your most potent offensive threat is ludicrous. Joel is shooting 30% from 3 this year. If there is one thing I hate more than anything, is players having to limit their game to accommodate another player's weakness. Teams get cold from the 3 point line. It's a lot easier to maintain some sort of offense by going into the post. That is what is happening with the Simmons/Embiid tandem. Do I think it'll eventually resolve itself? I hope so, but I hope we don't instill bad habits in Joel, that can't be forgotten.

“I really want him to shoot six to eight threes a game — and so how does that happen, and he is still an interior presence, a paint-catch guy?” Brown said.
For a 7-foot-2 center, Embiid has a nice shooting touch, but he won’t be confused with the likes of Stephen Curry when shooting threes. In Friday’s game, he hit 1 of 4 from beyond the arc, making him 53 for 169 for the season (.314).
Still, Brown had a reason for wanting his center so involved in the perimeter game.
“When you look at our team, I am convinced the three-point line is where the sport is headed and will rear its head during the playoffs,” Brown said. “And our point guards don’t shoot threes.”
He was referring to Ben Simmons and T.J. McConnell. Simmons hasn’t taken an actual attempt this season and McConnell is 25 for 53 for 47.2 percent on mostly open looks.

6-23, that **** needs to stop. This last couple of weeks he really started to play a Kobe Bryant kind of a game. Don't like that, share the ball if you are cold, pass the ball, let the game come to you. This is the new NBA, iso ball can't be the main focus of your offense. Leave your ego outside of the court.
He is just blackholing the offense a lot of times. I like him really, but every game there are so many dumb and forced shots and the whole offense get's stagnant.

I think part of it is he's tired. This game he missed a lot of gimme's at the rim too. That being said, Brown wants him more on the perimeter, to accommodate Simmons. Plain and simple...

He definitely missed a lot of shots at the rim last night. Forced the issue too much.
But on the other hand. Who else on the sixers can create their own shot in the half court offensive set? Have you seen when embiid throws the ball back out. It gets passed around TOO many times until the shot clock runs down. Who on the sixers can truly breakdown a defensive in the half court game. Teams are sagging off Simmons even more now. He will drive in half court set and dribble around if he doesn’t have an opening. A normal point guard would take the wide open 10 foot jump shot but Simmons doesn’t. Other teams know this.

Well you can have motion, catching, passing and running, cutting, use missmatches, you can call plays for other guys, you don't need to iso everytime you get the ball (Embiid).I mean sure teams needs to have a shot creator or two when there is no other options and to close games.
Also you can create without need to shoot by yourself every time. Use those double teams, pass immediately when you see your teammate open it's that simple, you get double teamed, you look around and pass immediately. Embiid is so slow in passing out of double teams because he want's to score every time, so he passes if there is really no option for him to score. Lot of times he has a open or semi-open teammate and he just goes for the fadeaway or something.
It should be other way around, you iso if there is no other option, you shot a contested shot if no one is open and there is no time. That is just my way of playing basketball. I like that kind of teams.

Isn’t it nice though that he is playing his full minutes in back to back games and we take it for granted now?
Embiid just has to fight through this stretch, as most rookies do.
Totally agree with post about Simmons needing to learn to shoot better simply to give more room to Embiid.
I don’t see any reason why Simmons can’t some day be a reasonable 3pt shooter, but I think he is years away from it.
His goals for next year should be improved free throw percentage, and cleaner midrange jump shots. The lower part of his body is always a mess when he shoots. Leaning off to the side, kicking out a leg, or not facing the basket. JJ Redick gets away with that stuff, but Simmons can’t. He should be working on cleaning up his base when he is shooting jumpers, and then getting up to a 70% ft shooter.
Maybe the following year he starts to attempt wide open threes once every couple of games, then the following year shoot more than 1 a game, and the following year start to shoot the shot above 30%. He is far away from proficiency in this.

Embiid is forced to "create" his shot because nobody else wants to do it, passing and passing and passing only works to a certain extent.

Yup. Agree. Embiid is averaging 3.5 assists a game already. Up from last season. U see he does look for guys as evident by his swing passes occasionally cross court to the open shooter for the 3.
Embiid is or already the most dominant low post scorer. So comparing the dominant men of today’s game. KAT asssit rates are lower. Rudy Gobert asssits rates lower. Andre Drummond finally in his 5th season has learned to pass the ball Before he averaged 1.5 to 2.5 assists a game. It took Damarcus cousins fill season 5 to get to 3 assists a game. Before he was a black hole not passing the all.
So as iso heavy as embiid can be. He still shares the ball. And embiid is still learning and growing as a passer. I anticipate when be finally gets it. He may be up to 5 assists a game. He will average 28/13/5/2 very soon.
