Teams respect his 3 point shot, but he's not very important at the end of games, especially in OT. He's not creating those shots by himself. They are not sticking to him like glue in that overtime either. The mindset is getting ANY points in OT, not getting Curry an open three. That's why we went ISO with Tobi.
On top of that, he's very exploitable on defense. If they were smart, they would have targeted him on switches and bullied him for easy baskets.
Of course he's not creating those shots for himself - that's never been the expectation. He's a 45% 3-point shooter who requires others to earn him space which, fortunately, we have the roster to generate for him.
His exploitability on defense is definitely a negative, but you're question was whether or not he actually influences a defense. We saw through Josh Richardson last year what happens if you have a non-threatening shooter in that spot, and it was awful.
