I look forward to Jrue playing with this:

Willie Green
Jason Kapono
M-16
Jason Smith

Not world beaters. But you got like 3 mid-range shooters to open up space for Kapono? I hope Jrue leads a strong 2nd unit.(In terms of fitting with the system).

Pre-season may very well be an extension of the regular season for the Sixers. I look forward to seeing what Lou can do.

Huh?

Anyway, your not going to see that lineup on the floor during the regular season unless the game is no longer in question. This isn't hockey, there aren't line changes. You'll more than likely see at least one of Iguodala, Brand or Young on the floor at all times.

There is NO WAY I am looking forward to the above. IF Jrue plays with the above, he will get very discouraged quickly. NO assists or very few with that group!

If Eddie plays a 2nd team above, our record will be easily a lottery record. Jrue will need to earn time replacing Lou/AI9/Thad on the 1st team to get confidence.

Or you can be a realist.

I choose to be a realist...and I have come to the conclusion that - from a financial perspective - the Sixers are f*cked for at least the next two seasons, which is the primary driver behind our current PG situation. It is why we chose not to work our azz off trying to move Miller at the deadline - we had no desire to take any meaningful contract back and we wanted the home playoff gates (followed by Miller's contract off the books). They had to know - at the trading deadline - that anything short of a 3-year deal was not bringing Miller back...and if they were not going to offer that, then why not use the rest of last season (while Brand was out) to play Williams at the point - he was the only guy you had signed for this season (and while you're at it, play Speights instead of Evans). They still might have gotten some playoff revenue...and they would be in a heckuva lot better position today to deal with a post-Miller Sixers roster (with Brand back in the lineup) than they will be this season.

And I don't want to hear the "well, getting Holliday changed everything" crap. Take out Jrue and put, say, Ty Lawson in his place. Would things be that different? Huh?

Look, I hope that this works out...I really do. But I have a feelign that there are going to be a LOT of times this season that I am going to be throwing something at the set (or better yet, just turning the TV off...how's that for your ad rates, Comcast?) because Stefanski badly mismanaged things.

(and I thought that Wharton grads were supposed to be smart)

Actually, you are choosing to be a pessimist. Leaving jrue out of the equation, Lou has about 1200 minutes as a point by himself over the last two years. He did an okay job with very few options on the floor. (check 82games.com) At the very least lou will be servicable, he does not need to be chris paul, he just needs to be okay. Also, it is essentially brands first year as a sixer. Brand is the best power forward the sixers have had since barkley. If he is 85% of his former self that 17.5 and 8.5 boards a game. We have a coach with a proven offensive system that deemphasizes the point position, again this should help lou. We were already a good defensive team. We should be better this year without miller. Jason Smith was very good pick and he did not play last year because of injury and Thad and Speights should be better, shouldn't they? We also addressed our lack of three point shooting by getting Kapano.

I just don't get all of the "realism", then again this is philly.

The Princeton offense doesn't de-emphasize the point guard position, it just changes the qualities that are typically asked of a point guard.

I wouldn't go far. Those guys can score. Certainly not something we should do on a regular basis or for too long, but I wouldn't mind seeing it once in a while.

Speaking as a student of the game of BASKETBALL the job description of a point guard is to
create scoring opportunities for his team.A point guard in a standard offense is expected
to controll the ball and make sure that it gets to the right players at the right time. The princeton
is far from a standard offense. This system of offense demands great passing from all positions back door cuts and spacing are essential. The center and forward use defensive reads to recieve and pass from both the high and low positions.Guards use defensive reads to determinewether to cut back door, spot up for a three point shot or dribble penatrate. When ran correctly thei is usally seven passes in 18 seconds.
This style of play totally DE-EMPHASIZES the job of the point guard. Lou will be fine

I think drafting Jrue puts the Sixers in a better posistion than drafting Lawson. Lawson seems to be pretty close to his ceiling while Jrue still has a lot of room to grow. Jrue also has an NBA caliber skill in his defense.

I don't think Jrue changed everything, but he was somewhat like a final piece that changed the Sixers mind. The Sixers thought they could contend with Miller and Brand, and it didn't really workout and then Brand got injured. They then drafted Holiday, who many people thought was a steal and has a lot of potential, which adds another player to an already pretty young roster.

The comment I replied to was a 2nd team. I agree I would not mind that team time to time and it would not be a lottery team. I meant as a 2nd team every game. Sorry if I was not clear or I missed the point!

I hear the Sixers are signing Rodney Carney for the guaranteed veterans minimum. He's your 13th guy.

Not a bad move. He played ok when he was here. He should be able to get some minutes at shooting guard.

That would be a very decent signing. Remember when Carney drained 6 or 7 three-pointers against us early this year? Thanks for the info Tom.

Decent pickup. I wonder if it'll be him or Brezec on the active roster.

Active roster could change on a nightly basis, depending on matchups, etc.

Carney was the popular choice to start at shooting guard in 2007-08, but he couldn't beat Green out after the two essentially shared the job the year before. Carney tends to play too fast -- borderline out of control. If he can slow down, he's OK.

Tom, has his style of play changed since he's been away?

I'm not sure. I haven't seen him enough to know. He can really get up and down the floor, but it seemed like he was always going 100 mph -- even in the half-court offense, when he'd launch 3-pointers early in the clock.
