Have them play with a stretch 5 for 60-70% of their minutes and have them play smallball 5 for 30-40% of their minutes.

The problem is that Ben isn't good enough. What's he down to now, 13 ppg? He's a role player. He can't carry a star scoring load so there's no point in even thinking about building around him. He's a basic role player.

Exactly.

Huh?

He’s ineffective as a PG.
he can’t space the floor as a wing
He’s too soft to play defense as a big.

Play fast and he passes the ball too much on transition
Play slow and he clogs the paint

Page 85 and we’re talking about what’s the best style for ben

You've really gone full-hater, huh? That's fun. It's kinda silly to act like Ben has been an ineffective player for us though. It's also just completely false that the Sixers have tried playing him in every manner that has been discussed (too soft? Wtf?)

He's a great defensive player that's really good in transition and bad in the half court. We had another guy like that here that went on to win a finals MVP elsewhere. If you're disappointed in his development, I get it, I am too. But he's a good player regardless. Albeit a frustrating one.

It's quiet in here. Some people aren't happy unless they've got something to complain about.

Lol at running to the player thread when he has a 1% rarity star level performance. If this was the norm, nobody would be complaining. The fact that this is an aberration is why we're complaining.

Tonight, my fellow sixers fans, we saw a glimpse of just how great Ben COULD be with a jumper that is landing. I haven't posted much at all lately because tbh I've been bored with my Sixers..bored of seeing Ben not shoot, bored of seeing Joel be inconsistent and Brown mess up scheme wise towards the end of games etc. But seeing what Ben did tonight has really got me buzzing again tbh :D...let's hope we see the same energy from Ben In the next game.

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

What makes you think he hasn't been?

"You can pass this along to his agent, his family, his friends and him" makes it seem like there a ton of conflicting voices coming out of the Ben camp.

This is exactly what I’ve been waiting to hear from Brett Brown. Starting now, expectation is that Simmons will take 1 three a game moving forward.

So I guess Ben doesn't listen to Brett.

The expectation of taking atleast 1 three per game has only been set today. Let’s see if Simmons follows coaches instructions

Corey Brewer once scored 51 pts.

its against the Cavs. Who again are trying to get their coach fired.

HOWEVA

this is still something Ben can do every game.

obviously not going to go 11/12 every time but still just slanging himself to the rim Tony Wroten style would give us a new element. I don't think its a talent thing just a mentality switch that is needed. Ben is not wrong that often the pass is the better option but on this level sometimes logic be damned lol. Sometimes the best shot is whichever one you can get. This is something that Ben has to grow to learn...hopefully it happens now.

but again ....its the Cavs

I highly doubt that he hasnt been in Simmons ear about shooting but maybe if Brown was more assertive from the start (when Ben became the PG) .We still wouldnt be here wishing Ben would shoot atleast 1 three per game.

Brett is too busy trying to "Tow the line of respect" instead of demanding the best from his players.

True, however even without a jumpshot Simmons has the size and handle to be a 20ppg scorer, the aggressiveness is what's missing more than anything else. Curious to see if he's passive against the Raptors or comes out like this again.

Flashbacks to the 16 game winstreak. Ben playing at his pace surrounded by shooters is a scary sight.

I almost don't want to see Joel back for another 5 or so games. I want to see if this is fools gold and if Ben can do it against better teams. If Joel comes back the whole dynamic of the way we play changes.

So far we've only seen one previous sample size where Joel missed a chunk of games and Ben had the keys to the team... and that ended up with what 17 wins in a row and Ben destroying Miami in the playoffs.

Maybe 5 games of Ben being aggressive and looking to score might be enough for him to continue doing that when Joel is back.

I’m sure Brett has already privately told Ben to shoot. Now he’s made it public.

Brett told you that during family dinner last night?
