Regardless, it doesn't really matter. Spikes said they traded him to cut salary, they traded him to acquire assets for a player who they didn't want as part of their future, and maybe take a minor step back for a couple extra ping pong balls.
That trade had zero to do with cutting salary. They wanted to sell. Get future assets for a superior current asset. Which is why trading Okafor to them is something I'm not buying. A team would have to want Okafor. And if there was a trade in place, it was probably something really bad for us. Like "we'll take Okafor off your hands if you take Crabbe's contract."
I doubt a 1st rounder was part of any deal for Okafor from Portland's end if they just acquired one the next day. It would be two totally different approaches within the span of half a day. To buy and them change your mind and sell.
