Don't worry

Morey simps know he has something big up his sleeve and are more concerned about the future than now

What did you want done differently in the last year?

I know what you're asking for specifically but I'm going to mention everything I want for this team

A reliable back up C for our best player who has injury problems

Embiid to lose weight so his stamina could be better playing more minutes in the playoffs

Embiid to stop playing like a guard and draining his energy because of it

Harden losing weight and his late shot clock misses due to him pounding the ball

Doc being fired

Morey to stop signing his former players from Houston

Athleticism and defense on the wings

Tucker to be benched

Reed to stop fouling (even though that ceased in the playoffs this year)

Niang re-signed

Posters taking their blinders off when it comes to this team and realizing we have a window for winning a championship

This just off the top of my head. There is more

TOR out: Siakam, Porter
TOR in: Harris, Mann, 2028 LAC 1st, 2029 PHI 1st, 2030 LAC 1st

Dealbreaker for LAC/TOR would probably be the 2030 LAC 1st. OTOH is Siakam three 1sts better than Harris/Mann?

Maxey/Springer/Beverley
Powell/Batum/Korkmaz
Covington/Porter/House
Siakam/Reed/Petrusev
Embiid/Bamba/Harrell

I don't think that LAC has any intention of sending out that kind of haul for Harden. Could be wrong, but I doubt that that's on the table.

With Reed being retained, I'm not so interested in Siakam unless there were no other return available for Harden.
I see some Paul Millsap in Reed, keeping in mind that Millsap didn't start shooting 3-pointers with any volume until he was 28. Reed seems better on defense, certainly more of a rim protector; Millsap might have had better offensive moves at a similar point in his career. Both very good rebounders, maybe an edge to Reed. I'd really like to see him be given the shot that Millsap got right from his first year (age 21).

If Harden will agree to play hard I would go with a starting lineup of
Maxey
Harden
Tobi
Reed
Biid

If Harden has to be traded and LAC is the partner, I'd want wings in return: Powell, Mann, one of RoCo or Batum and hopefully at least one draft pick. Keep Tobi; he's better on-court than the other guys listed and I want to see if he'll re-sign for a reasonable deal.

Maxey/ Melton/ PatBev
Powell/ Mann/ Springer/ Melton/ Kork
Tobi/ Batum or RoCo/ House Jr/ Kork
Reed/ Tobi/ Batum or RoCo
Biid/ Bamba/ Harrell

Maxey
Harden
Tobi
Reed
Biid

Sounds great, but Tobias is not a wing. We need a wing that can shoot 3s relentlessly, rebound a bit and defend decently and this lineup would destroy other teams.

Not sure I understand the point you're trying to make. I wrote that if we traded with LAC I'd want wings in return (such as Powell and Mann). I also proposed, if we didn't trade Harden, a lineup of Maxey/ Harden/ Tobi/ Reed/ Embiid.

You responded with "Sounds great, but Tobias is not a wing." I'm scratching my head.

That's correct, Tobi isn't a wing. He's a combo forward who can play the 3, where I had him. (In fact he played a lot of minutes there last year.). A wing, as I'm sure you know, is someone who can guard the 2 or the 3; a combo forward can guard the 3 or the 4. Tobi can guard most opposing small forwards and some power forwards. He can "rebound a bit," as per your wish list, "and defend decently" (or better), as you wrote.

So is the issue that Tobi doesn't "shoot 3s relentlessly" enough? He shoots about five 3s per 36 minutes. That's about what Kevin Durant puts up, and not quite as "relentless" as what Andrew Wiggins or Khris Middleton puts up. With defense, rebounding, and decent scoring all on Tobi's side, are you suggesting that because some forwards have hoisted up 1 or 2 more 3P shots per 36 minutes than he, that that's a reason to ditch him? If so, I'd like to see a list of the kinds of small forwards who fit all of your criteria, are better than Tobi, and--here's the kicker-- are available for what the Sixers have to offer.

The amount of people that have BBall penciled in as the starting 4 is insane to me.

BBall shouldn't start at the 4 but he should get enough minutes there to play 20+ a night.

But I could be wrong about that. Maybe Nurse has something in mind.

Why? He's one of our 5 best players and his natural position is PF. If he can just hit some open corner 3's, which he did quite well in G-League, he could be very effective there.

Even if he can't shoot 3's, he could still be a better option than Tucker. Tucker just fire away enough to stretch the defense anyway.

I'm going to bet that Paul Reed has shown a willingness to shoot the three to Nick Nurse. Whether Paul Reed materializes into a starting 4 depends solely on that specific trait. Otherwise, he will continue to give us high energy off the bench which is still awesome.

Personally, I think Nurse sees him as Chris Boucher 2.0. A lot of people really undervalue Boucher as a player. If Reed can do for us what Boucher has done for Toronto, then we're going to be a much better defensive team. If Reed can hit a consistent three, then he'll be starting for us in 2024.

I'm not saying Reed should start yet, but I do want to see him paired with Embiid at least for stretches of games. We just paid him, he's going to be a big part of the rotation, he's going to improve our defense, and he's going to help with our rebounding issues. If Nurse likened him to Boucher, then Reed will be used as a 3,4, and 5 on the floor. That's exciting to me because he can guard wings at times if he has to. Put him on Jayson Tatum, and let him go up against Giannis. Reed is built to defend these guys. So happy we kept him.

There's not a fanbase Kelly Oubre has ever played for that was ever sad to see him leave. He's a bonehead. He couldn't even make the playoffs with the Suns and Warriors lol.

He shot them in the GLeague! No fewer than Tobias, I'd guess. So it's not out of the question.

Because he's never played the 4 and is an awkward offensive fit with Embiid. I'd like to see him get minutes there, but I think his skill set fits more naturally at the 5 spot in today's NBA.

I also don't see how he's a top-5 player on the team. Even if you're projecting him to get better and Tucker's athleticism to continue to decline... DeAnthony Melton is still on the roster.

Cool.

But we're not talking about him for a large role or big money. He'd be getting Korkmaz/House money to play ahead of Korkmaz/House.

Yeah, but you're still talking about bringing in a confirmed doofus whose game has proven to not be conducive to winning basketball so ultimately what is the point?

I guess the idea would just be to see if you can get him to be more useful in a far lower usage role, but that's a fair point. Mostly just slim pickings, and he fits an athletic profile that we lack, while at least having a decent amount of NBA experience. But maybe you just stick with the doofus we've got (House) since he can shoot better.

Trying new things out in games was "crazy" under the last guy.

Vet min for Oubre with the chance to earn a big role. A "prove it" deal.

Not worth going into an exception for him.

Tyrese could have just said, "Nick, I like how you're willing to try things out in games," but made a point to mention that the previous coach wasn't. Springer did the same thing. And I'm certain more quotes like this will materialize in the next year.

The team wasted three years on Doc Rivers. Shame on everyone involved.

For those people complaining that Harris is cheap; he also fired 2 coaches who were both still under contract and has to pay them while still paying top dollar for their replacement.

I know it's an easy "low hanging fruit" but if ownership were cheap they'd refuse to replace coaches until their contracts expired.

Ownership also wouldn't spend money to make the arena family friendly; but this ownership has put a lot of effort into entertainment beyond the game.

It's crazy that we finally have a real coach for the first time in around 20 years.

Starting PF, or just a PF playing meaningful minutes, whatever. As Stanford wrote right after you, the hope is that Reed can log meaningful minutes. It the other four players on the court all can shoot 3s and spread the court-- say, Maxey, Harden, and Embiid-- then it shouldn't really matter that Reed doesn't (at present) have a reliable 3.

Boucher, good comparison, maybe even better than mine of Paul Millsap. If he's significantly like either, he should play meaningful minutes.

I hear what you're saying, I really do, but I just can't agree that Reed fits naturally at the 5. He plays better as a 4. If by the stipulation "in today's NBA" you mean that other teams play "small ball" so often that a 6'9" guy can hang with their so-called centers, OK, but all that point really means is that any given natural PF can play the position formerly known as C against other PFs. I maintain that there's still a forward spot for the Millsaps of this world, especially if they can also protect the rim (as Reed can).

What's amazing is young players are going out of their way to say how it was never like that here, actually trying new things and actually being coached. I can't help but wonder how different it might have been the last three years if a legitimate coach from this century had been hired instead of the stubborn, arrogant, unimaginative clod we ended up with.
