Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
tyreke would be great for this team.... we dont have to have a scorer than can hit the 3... but a guy that can drive and create his own shot and get to the line... which he can do... he can play 3 positions... but hes probably best suited as a PG or SG
wade doesnt shoot the 3 adn last time i checked hes a good 2 guard... i would trade iguodala for tyreke and thompson
you start jrue/evans/turner/brand/thompson until hawes gets back
i think i would do that in a heartbeat

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
o dang i knew evans was tall i thought he was 6'5 ... hes 6'6?? hell he could start at SF and probably be a better defender their than turner because of his athleticism and strength...
so turner starts at the 2... or knowing collins... he starts jrue/meeks/evans but with this lineup our SF is still a good defender but a MUCH better scorer than iguodala was
i think i really like this potential deal

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
we would have to take someone else back in the evans deal i talked about above... maybe hickson? doing this deal allows us even more cap flexibility should we choose as we could let thompson and hickson walk should we want
though i would want to keep both as we are probably amnesting brand

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
Evans is vastly overrated. He's not a very efficient scorer, doesn't have good 3 point range, doesn't get to the line ALL that much, and doesn't play defense. He can't play SF unless you want it played very badly. Hasn't improved in 3 years of play. Just another inefficient combo guard. If the Sixers were to trade Iggy for him it'd be a BIG downgrade in talent & basketball IQ.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
so RT has talked to houston about a deal involving Kevin Martin and Jordan Hill for Evan Turner, Nocioni and Brackins. On and Off talks. nothing imminent but something to watch.
Also has talked to Portland about Wesley Matthews but also trying to get Batum who Portland doesnt want to move.
Havent heard anything about Monta. Seems he would cost too much for what we want to give. Sixers dont seem to be making Nik, Jrue or Andre available right now.

Thanks for the update SF! Both deals are intriguing. Any idea who we'd be dangling for Mathews/Batum?

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
not sure in portland deal...assuming turner. But the 2nd piece would have to be pretty valuable to have them want to give up Batum. They like him alot and so do we.

Jrue and Nik might be off the table for now but I'm guessing that's exactly who Portland would want before they even consider dealing Batum.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
Hard to believe that Philly would be willing to part with Brackins:) Seriously though, I cringe at the thought of trading Turner and having him flourish elsewhere, but it almost seems like something has to give here. I just hope that Turner stays in the starting lineup and starts to look like the guy he was earlier in the season again. That way, if no trade is made, we at least get to see the player who looked pretty promising early on and find out once and for all if he and Iguodala can in fact play together, instead of just hearing the speculation that they can't. On the flipside, it will increase his value in all likelihood if they do trade him.
In the end, Martin doesn't excite me, but he is at least a better fit at SG. J. Hill is a journeyman, but could actually fill a role in Philly since he rebounds and is physical. As for Portland, it's hard to say because we don't know what Portland would want in return, but I'm not sure how Batum doesn't recreate the logjam at SG unless Philly also plans to move Iguodala at some point. At least Matthews is a SG.

Turner for Martin feels like the new Iguodala for Kaman.

I proposed a version of that rumored discussion several days ago in the game thread.
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1165568&p=30723127#p30723127
I would offer Evan Turner, Nocioni's expiring, and a 1st round draft pick. That might not be enough for Houston, but perhaps Utah would take Turner, Brackins & a 2nd for Millsap, and then send Millsap, Nocioni & a #1 to Houston for Martin.
Glad to see that Philly's at least investigating that avenue. In the Trade Thread I just proposed a more radical (risky) deal involving Brand & Turner to NOH for Okafor (1 more year left than Brand) and Eric Gordon (needs to be re-signed and his knee makes him a risk). I wonder whether Philly's ever inquired about Gordon?
I really like this Sixers team and feel sick for them (and my die-hard son) every time they choke out a close game. They remind me of the Bulls from several years ago: good team defense, good character, and a jump-shooting team that doesn't get to the line often enough. The Bulls' "solution" was to luck into Derrick Rose (1.7% chance). Unfortunately that's not a realistic option here.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
The Portland deal would put us over the top and back in the top 3 in the East discussion. A defense already ranked first in the NBA getting a long weapon like Batum would be scary. And Wes Matthews is very good basketball player that can shoot his a** off. Something we haven't had at the SG position in decades.
The Houston deal is okay, I guess. I'm not as high on Martin as most on here. I think he's a ball dominant mid-range shooter that isn't nearly as efficient as he was in his prime. Bringing Hill with him is intriguing. He hasn't impressed since getting drafted and doesn't play many minutes but his rebounding percentages are solid. Would probably be the best rebounder on our team with Evan heading to Houston.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
I don't know if I like the idea of giving up on Turner this early in his career. He could still turn out to be a damn good player. But, talking right here and right now, we're looking at trading bench players for some solid starters. If Rod can pull it off then it definitely improves this team today and going forward.
I think Kevin Martin would do well here. He would definitly get this team into the 2nd round of the playoffs. My only concern is his durability. The Portland trade would be amazing but where do the pieces fit?
I'm glad Rod is exploring his options but at the end of the day will either of these deals get us past Chicago or Miami in a 7 game series? That's where we need to be.

I can understand the lack of enthusiasm about Martin. It's not as if he'd be a sure thing. I do think that he would help the scoring and spacing a lot, but there are legitimate question marks.
But what makes you think that Wes Matthews would put the Sixers over the top?
First, Philly would have to give up something to get him. Portland's apparently interested in a young big and/or draft pick. I'm not sure that Noc + Philly's 1st rounder would get it done.
Second, Matthews is a nice all-around player-- pretty good defense, good shooter-- but he doesn't create his own shot and he's not "instant offense" or a closer. He would be one more piece who would fit Philly's overall approach. But is that what's really wanted right now? Isn't he kind of like Evan Turner with a better jumper, with worse handles & rebounding, and without the potential upside?
Nic Batum is terrific but I can't see Portland trading him for anything the Sixers are likely to offer. If for some reason Portland doesn't think they can handle his RFA asking price, and if they would give him up for Turner & a 1st rounder (give 'em Brackins too if they want him), the Sixers should jump on it-- no trade-backs.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
Not in favor of the Houston deal. Houston did not pick up the option on Jordan Hill meaning he is an unrestricted free agent next year. Martin has one year left at 12M & is 29 years old. So basically, that deal means a one year rental on Martin, a guy that has averaged 50+ games a year over his 8 year career for Turner while giving Houston additional cap space. Of course, I guess Thorn can extend Martin to a long-term deal at the age of 30. We've seen how extensions for older players work out in the past. Sounds like the kind of short-term move this franchise always makes. Thanks for the update.

Evan Turner needs a chance to play. He is a good rebounder and I believe his shot will come. He is the only player that at least drives to the rim. I believe he is more athletic than most of you believe.
