his shooting elbow keeps poking out far left on his jumper. why didn't they correct that yet

Hey did anyone notice that in the latest video that Ben was doing faceups and post ups on the low block and pushing the ball in transition after grabbing a rebound. I strongly feel that Ben will be starting at PF when season starts. PointPowerforward hahaha!!!

No. The beauty of him playing the point is that he can blow past bigger guys guarding him and get to the hole.

If the opposition put a smaller more mobile guard on him... he will back them down into the post. It was his go to move in College and even when he played against a 4 or 5 he was able to back them in and get a hook shot over them every time because he is 6ft 10. He was also very good at pump faking and getting guys in the air to draw fouls or reverse for an easy dunk or layup.

If they double team him... his elite passing will get easy buckets every time.

Playing him at the 1... also enables him to play pick and roll with Embiid. Do they switch the 5 on Simmons which will create a mismatch athletically and draws other defenders which opens up the wings for wide open 3's. Or do they cover Embiid who has the ability to not only roll to the basket for an easy dunk over the entire league... but also out to the 3 point line and get off a shot.

If you stick Simmons at the 4 you are wasting his talent... just like LSU did.

When I say I want to play Simmons at the 4, I am speaking defensively. He's going to have the ball in his hands and be the primary initiator offensively. I just want him guarding 4s to utilitize his defensive rebounding and ability to start the break from the glass.

Am I in the minority on this? Have I been having an entirely different conversation than I assumed?

Well lets say he grew to 6'11'' and slightly improved his jumper.

I guess people are hung up on the fact that where someone plays defensively is the deciding factor on whether you are a 1,2,3,4 and 5 which makes the least sense to me. Even more so given teams switch so much on the ball and defense is a team orientated thing by it's very design that you find yourself defending at several positions during a possession never mind a game.

I think where you play offensively should determine your position. If you have the ball and bring it up the court and run the offense then you are a point guard by definition.

Steph Curry for example often due to his height and size will not cover the opposing point guard and will be switched out to defend a shooting guard whilst Iguodala defends the 1. That doesn't mean Curry suddenly isn't the point guard on that team. Andrew Bogut a few years ago in a series against Memphis defended Tony Allen at the 2 spot.. because they knew Allen couldn't hit a shot to save his life. That doesn't suddenly make Bogut a shooting guard anymore than Simmons defending the 4 makes him a forward.

The literal definition of point guard is the player that guards point.

The word guard is a defensive term.
