I'm fairly certain its just not that easy. You need Embiid around the basket. He is unstoppable there. Just because he can at times shoot 3s doesn't make him a stretch 4 spot up shooting Kevin Love. That isn't fully utilizing his talents. Just becasue Nerlens is better suited the 5 doesn't allow you to play Embiid at the 4.

Sure it does for 10 minutes per game depending upon matchups.

There's definitely no issue on defense.

On offense Nerlens can play in the high post and Embiid can play in the low post. Or we can have Embiid behind the 3 point line on selected occasions. He won't be parked out there all game long.

are there any new noel trade rumors? i just don't see the sixers re-signing him for $18-20 per so he can back up embiid. and they're not a good fit on the court together.
there are okafor rumors galore but i feel like they need to move noel first...or they risk losing him for nothing this offseason.

The contract situation is exactly why he has little trade value now--no one's giving up anything close to fair value for him when they also have to pay him big in a few months.

The plan seems to be to keep him around as Embiid insurance and to see if he can play a great 25 minutes per game here and there. The Sixers also have such an ungodly amount of cap room this offseason that, depending on what else happens in FA, giving that money to Noel very well might be the best way to spend it. There's the risk that he plateaus or regresses and can't be traded after that, but I doubt that and my best guess is that, after signing him, they can trade him in a year or two for a pretty weak return (but still get out of his contract).

Apparently Bogut is being thrown our way too - WHAT PURPOSE DOES THAT SERVE

1-18 protected.

Mavs are not making the playoffs this year.

What does it convey into in 2018, that is the question.

Seems like a pretty bad return depending on what happens with the pick next year.

Protected 1-18 this year. Looks like bad deal depending on next years protection

I think it shows we weren't going to match the offer sheet for Nerlens... so effectively we get something for nothing now.

Everything depends on the protections for future years. If the protections decline sharply then it's fine.

That's what I'm hoping for.

If we're talking top five protected next year, then this was a decent trade.

If the pick is something like top 10 protected in 2018 and then unprotected, this will be an excellent return. Noel would've been a great bench defender but not at $20+ mill a year with Richaun being a viable replacement.

looks like i was right.
heck...i like nerlens, but he wants to start somewhere. i doubt he'd be back & happy in his role as a backup/spot starter.

This one hurts a little, love Noel even if he didn't fit perfectly and don't think we'll make smart use of the extra cap space. Something had to give, but I'm still calling for a few days of mourning for the Nerlens.
