Curry though wanted to get a deal done and signing for $44 mill guaranteed over 4 years would set his family up for life anyway.... even though it was at a massive discount.

Joel and the 76ers would be smart to do something similar. He could get $130m over 5 years... I'd offer him $90m over 4 years. That sets up Joel for life... and if he breaks down it doesn't completely destroy the team's future as it's unlikely we are going to be at our prime for a championship before then anyway.

If Embiid will sign a deal like that then go for it. Maybe he would.

Let's not forget that he is already set for life. I mean he makes millions of dollars a year. Someone who has made 10 million dollars by the time that they are 23 never has to work another day in their life.

I think he is guaranteed to make around $22 million by the end of his rookie salary... so yeah he is set up for life compared to the average joe on the street.

Another $90 million contract renewal will take him to $112 mill earned... and once you start talking $112 Mill Vs $22 mill then it does make a big difference... and you want to do that early and guarantee your future.

Embiid probably does not want to have to play the entire season and risk getting a career ending injury, just in the hope by doing so he will make an extra $8 mill a year over 5 years.

If he takes the shorter 4 year deal and his body holds up... he is going to make enough money with the first year of his contract at age 28 to more than make up for the 1 less year. It makes sense for both parties. Risking $90 million guaranteed to make an extra $40 million best case scenario... is bad financial management.

Hell.. Maybe Bolden can even play some C. Splitter?

Bolden and the Latavian we drafted aren't coming over for at least a year though

FWIW, If Okafor buys into his role as an off the bench big that puts effort on D given he only plays limited mins, he will be OK. I dont think anyone will overpay him anyway. Accepting that type of role is his chance to have a long NBA career.

There's also the upside of extending him for a contract below his market value. Warriors wouldn't be as dominate if they didn't extend Stephen Curry while he was plagued with ankle injuries.

Okafor will get paid similar to other All offense/No Defense Centers like Kanter, Monroe, Vucevic, Valenciunas

While those guys are similar to Okafor in the respect that none of them can protect the rim, all of those guys do an excellent job on the glass. Okafor is a pitiful rebounder.

His legs seem thicker if anything. I did notice he needed to churn those legs initially to get going.

The thing is... there's like 18 guys in the history of professional basketball that were 7'3" or taller. Embiid at 7'2" (and change IMO) is probably one of 50-60 guys ever at that height.

Then we talk about the athleticism, strength, and explosiveness? There's very few people ever with the physical profile of Joel Embiid, and he isn't even in his athletic prime yet. Off the top of my head, it's Wilt Chamberlain, Shaq, and young Ardyvas Sabonis. (Edited to add David Robinson).

When it's all said and done, Embiid will be remembered as the dominant player of his generation and as one of the GOATs.
"I don’t wanna be Jordan, I don’t wanna be Magic, I don’t wanna be Bird or Isiah. I don’t wanna be any of those guys. When my career’s over, I''m gonna look in the mirror and say I did it my way.”- Allen Iverson

Yeah.... I really hope this is a teachable skill cos the future of the franchise depends on it.

His gait still looks weird to me. Like he's not taking full strides. Tight/weak hamstrings or something. Similar to Myles Turner coming out of college.

People 7'2 and taller tend to move awkwardly. It's just how it is. He still moves as well as anyone his size I've ever seen in my life though.
