Why are you mentioning Tobias as a core player?
What justifies this team having > 0 title odds?
What is your definition of a difference maker?
What is your definition of role player?
Trade value is “a nebulous idea you don’t accept”? Care to elaborate?
“Pretext to do something larger by his agent”? Care to elaborate?

I’m slightly worried Morey is losing it after listening to that. I mean, maybe 4D chess Morey WANTS to sound crazy so Ben, Rich Paul, and all the other teams who want Ben understand what it’s going to take?
I think I can answer the trade value question as I also feel it's nebulous. Trades are based on situation and needs and rarely on X player is worth Y value. Butler was traded for the best package of much lesser players.

Or when one year Horford was traded with a pick for Green and the next year traded for Walker and a pick. He didn't play better to increase his value, it's just that OKC and Philly/Boston got something they wanted in the deals.

If a player asks out or a team changes course (whether to try to contend or tank), the players on that team will fetch the best deal even if the value isn't considered equal.

Trade markets are very dynamic and based a lot on situations.

Based on Shams report and Morey’s interview if I’m the sixers I keep him close to the team with a sports psychologist or therapist and let him work on his game alone. Worst case scenario he never plays and we deal him after some time while minimizing the distraction. Best case scenario he develops some confidence in his game and sees things a little clearer and in turn comes back and plays hard thus increasing his value.

He has shot 70% plus from free throw in the past so to me this has always been 100% mental. Anxiety is a real thing and performance anxiety at 25 years old is understandable but he needs to face it head on. I think him apologizing is a major step in the right direction.

If he actually needs help and he gets it and starts acting rationally (I don't mean playing better just making more rational decisions with regard to all of this nonsense) that seems like a good thing. Who knows if he's just saying stuff though.

At least he talked directly to the team and not through the media/leaks.

Hope he gets the help he needs.

Morey needs to get us another PG in the meantime and we can keep it movin

I mean, I can't get mad if he's actually speaking to the team principals. My dude needs a shrink forreal if he doesn't already have one.

This whole saga is mentally exhausting just from a fan's perspective.

I am so tired of what professional sports have become. Excuse me for hitting 30 and becoming the old man yelling at clouds, but I really only care about the game of basketball. Pure X's and O's. Pro sports has always had the drama angle whether one wants to admit it or not, but the last decade has really magnified it by 1000, mainly due to social media and the 24 hour news cycle.

I don't know how to escape this other than deleting all my apps and simply tuning in at tip-off.

Can they still withhold Simmons payment until he is ready to play to protect against any shenanigans?

It's going to stay in escrow for a while I imagine. Escrow means he's gotten paid, he just doesn't have access because they, for lack of a better term, anticipate that he is going to breach his contract. Its an old football tactic IIRC.

Yeah that would seem to be the move unless the two sides come to an agreement. Long term if the Sixers want to get money back from the escrow that Simmons thinks he's entitled to it would probably go to arbitration.

Just wait until you hit 60. The clouds yell back.

Sixers are up for the entire amount in any event

It’s either paid to Ben or goes to the league/players association in fines

“My bad, guys. We cool now?” - Ben Simmons.

Anyone who thinks the situation can last like this for 4 months (much less 4 years) is insane.

The first losing streak and that locker room will be toxic.

People will always look for scape goats

using mental disability clause in CBA as tactic is shameful in his case.

The clause is their for a good reason, and its being abused in this case.

if he was dealing with mental issues, this would have come up earlier

For what it’s worth, there’s a lot of people who need help with their mental health but find it hard to admit it. I feel like it’s a positive sign that he’s at least “admitting” he needs help and plans to meet with medical professionals for an evaluation.
