Reading their review of McCain; the first guy that came to mind is Brunson.

I don't think he has the handle of Brunson.

I'll just say this, if we didn't have Maxey, this would have been easily the best pick for us in the draft. His fit with Embiid is like a glove as he does all his scoring on DHO, PnR, and C&S. If Embiid is the gravity of our offense, then McCain is a perfect guy to benefit off it. We also talk about needing flamethrowers from three and he's the biggest flamethrower of the draft.

So I'm not going to get upset because he's not a fit with Maxey; there will be opportunities for him to come in for Maxey and not have our entire offense die on the vine.

Additionally, he was a 5 star, top 15 recruit in the country. He plays insanely hard (like Maxey) and will actually make the effort plays which you can see from his 5 rebounds per game as a 6'3.5 guard.

That actually makes sense. Ugh, it's probably aligns with the Ingram trade tho.

Could also be nothing. Just checked that Pels didnt worked out McCain while they also worked out Missi.

Teams that worked out McCain:
Bucks
Warriors
Magic
Thunder

Hate the pick. More convinced that Morey is completely washed and needs to go.

A BIG guard that can shoot, Morey. A big guard! Pieces have to fit. You already have a munchkin. Jesus, this shouldn't be so hard.

I hold out slim hope they are trading this kid.

Gonna play devil's advocate:

What if turns out we get PG13 to play SG with Maxey and the plan is McCain runs unit 2 with Lowry and Council? How do you feel in that scenario?

I've settled in after the initial gut punch of not taking "guy that dropped and wasn't expecting to be there". Seems like a good kid. Weird AF, but whatever. I'm sure he'll love doing the little player segments they put on the jumbotron during games. Hopefully he can contribute off the bench for us.

McCain might have a lot of value for the Warriors

I'm saving this thread for posterity so we can enjoy it later (unless I'm wrong about McCain, where I'll let it fade into obscurity).

This is a good point actually. If nothing else, he should allow Maxey to play less MPG. Assuming we keep him, we'll see how it pans out.

Also, even if this guy was fine in a vacuum, it is all the more puzzling when a wing player that was projected to go much earlier and also has a useful skill set is available.

Tyrese Maxey is an ironman that was 2nd in the league in MPG.

Where are these 2nd unit minutes that McCain is supposedly running? 9 mpg?

And we usually just dump the ball to Biid and let him cook in those non-Maxey minutes.

Furthermore, I think its the non-Embiid minutes that we should address

Ok I calmed down. Still hate this pick. I'm hoping for the best though, but it really, truly is an awful pick imo. You just don't do that when better talent is on the board. Whatever tho...He paints his nails and makes Tik Tok videos. My oh my! What fun it'll be! After all it's all about fun these days! Screw that! He went to Duke and that sucks too. On top of that his name is Jared.

BPA is a strategy I can get behind given that we have a completely empty roster at the moment. There will be plenty of opportunity to play 2 guard lineups during the year & I view him more as a Melton replacement.

We will have issues in the playoffs but I’m hoping he’s not too important to our success in the short term after we’ve built the full roster.

Well maybe it won't be necessary to play Maxey the minutes he plays since we have someone who is capable of scoring points when he's on the bench.

Additionally, with Melton and possibly Lowry gone, there are 616 of Maxey's top 2626 lineup minutes available for a dueling munchkin lineup: https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/maxeyty01/lineups/2024

Another one is for the Nets with Ben Simmons and Cam Thomas.
