Memphis Grizzlies
In my team I want to highlight its versatility above all things, giving many opportunities to create different alignments.

Starting Lineup
Hill, Wade, Wallace, Odom, Biedrins
Small lineup:
hill, wade, jefferson, wallace, Odom
Big lineup:
wade, jefferson, wallace, Odom, Biedrins
3 pt lineup:
williams, rush, jefferson, Radmanovic, Odom
8th man rotation:
hill, wade, wallace, odom, biendrins / williams, jefferson, landry
10th man rotation:
hill, wade, wallace, odom, biedrins / williams, rush, jefferson, landry, turiaf

Offense
The offense is armed around wade. He will decide the fate of the Grizzlies. Will be well accompanied by Hill, Odom, Wallace, Williams to name a few. Wallace is known for his defensive capacity ranked among the best in that area, but that does not make you forget about the offensive scoring nearly 16pts per game. The team used the fast break as a main weapon, and then move the ball quickly to create space for Wade to do his thing, either for himself or assisting others. When Wade is not in court, the other players are able to score 20 pts in any game, so will remain the premise of running and moving the ball on the perimeter, to find the best option. In terms of outside shooting, we have players like Jefferson, Rush, Williams, Hill, Radmanovic and Odom. If someone want to run zone defenses they have to think it twice. With the gameplan we have, we also put special emphasis on offensive rebounding, where we believe we will succeed thanks to the great athletic players we have in all positions, standing out wade, odom, Wallace, biedrins and landry.

Defense
defense is one of our main weapons, as we have very athletic players who can defend at many positions, that why we decide to play with many defensive switches. Many times we will play a small formation because very few teams that have true centers, That formation could be hill, wade, jefferson, wallace, Odom.

Future
This team was formed to compete now and in 5 years, as players have mostly between 28 and 31 years, but also with others even younger. In 3 or 4 years Odom can give place to landry. hill, Bayless rush and seraphin have a great future ahead and in a few years probably will be playing their best basketball, Biedrins is still young but behind him is Fesenko who I believe that hes never going to be a star, but he can fill a similar role like haywood or Ostertag. Same for dany green who i hope can devolp a solid allaround player. We also have Seraphin, a player who i feel very confident that he could develop a game very similar to nene. It should be noted that within 5 years wade, williams and wallace have 34, landry and Turiaf 33, only Odom 37 and Jefferson, Radmanovic 36 ,will exceeded 35.
Notables: Bayless in the last month of the year averages: 22pts, 3reb. 5.6 ass, 1 stl.

Philosophy
this team is going to play strong defense, rotate and run fastbreaks if possible, but was cleared to play insolation for wade or rotate the ball looking for the best shoot, and then attacking the offensive glass almost every possession. I think I have one of the best bench, that’s why we r going to rotate in the season many players. By playoff time was sought to keep the same rotation to be possible 9 / 10 men.

tomorrow I hope to add photos.

Portland Trailblazers
Image

Roster:
PG:Jeff Teague(29 minutes)/Shannon Brown(19 minutes)
SG:Jason Richardson(19 minutes)/Tony Allen(18 minute)/Jodie Meeks(11 minutes)
SF:Tayshaun Prince(30 minutes)/Shawne Williams(12 minutes)/Bill Walker(6 minutes)
PF:Paul Millsap(28 minutes)/Tyler Hansbrough(16)/Okur(4 minutes)/Jared Jeffries (0)
C:Dwight Howard(35 minutes)/Chris Andersen(13)/BJ Mullens(0)

Keep in mind these minutes do not fit to how I would coach a regular game, but rather an estimate of how it might play out. For example, a guy like Jeffries who is a premium defender from 1-5 can be slotted at anytime for a "defense" possession.

Bill Walker and Mullens will spend some time in the D-League.

PHILOSOPHY
This team is built upon defense, balance, versatility, and dominance in the post. Dwight Howard has never had a running partner in the post as good as Millsap. This team is so deep and has so many interchangeable lineups I can gameplan against any team as well as find productive players deep down my bench if need be. This team is very athletic and fast so they can run the break often, but also can run a complete half-court offense with a mix of spot up three point shooters, screen runners, and slashers as well as having a variety of skilled big men.
This team will have hard-nosed defense and hustle consisting of Multiple defensive player of the year Dwight Howard, former First All Defensive team Tayshaun Prince, and Second All Defensive team Tony Allen. Guys like Jared Jeffries(can defend any position), Chris Andersen(Shotblocker) should be noted as well. I truly believe the majority of this team can at least play above average defense.

The team is relatively young, which is good for the future moving on as I can slowly build through the draft to continue to add depth to the team as SF is the only mild concern in the near future but keep in mind that there are 3 former NBA Champions on this team, Dwight has had Finals experience, and most of the team has had playoff experience with a good turnout. A coach like G. Poppavich would be ideal as he is known for great defensive teams, knows how to utilize 2 highly skilled big men, breeds PG's to be smarter and better, and can make the most out of borderline star players/good role players.

Offense
This team can score in any way possible and is best served in the paint. If you saw Jeff Teague unleashed against the Bulls, it is all the evidence needed to be seen to show he is ready to start in the NBA and shine. It took a Hinrich injury for Larry Drew to finally let Teague get minutes and he didn’t disappoint, a starting position in a contending team will only increase his confidence and it is said that a PG’s third year is their breakout year. Teague provides a pick and roll game with Dwight as well as Millsap who can PnP as well. Teague’s speed and athleticism allows him to get to the rim efficiently and finish. He can also shoot FT’s at a high percentage.

Teague’s job is mainly to not turn over the ball(something he has shown), get the ball to Dwight in good post position, and slash often with the best option of scoring in mind, whether it’s to take it up, pass out to a spot up shooter, etc. Shannon Brown provides that “Instant Offense” player with freak athleticism(highest vert in the NBA) and occasional hot streaks from the 3 point line. He is a point guard but played SG behind Kobe to provide a scoring threat when Kobe was out of the game.

At the SG position, this team requires you to earn your minutes. Jason Richardson is a versatile player who can shoot efficiently and still has good athleticism to drive to the hoop. He can always guarantee 12-20 pts for you on good nights. Tony Allen is the defensive guy in the SG rotation, but he provides crafty slashing ability and can rack up fouls from the other team. Jodie Meeks is an important player on this team, his minutes can fluctuate highly based on his play and time of the game. Meeks can run off screens by our physical bigs and get his shot off with a lightning quick release efficiently without being a defensive liability. Off his catch, he can read if he should shoot or make a pass to the post or back to the PG (A la Korver in the Bulls system). Meeks will be put in end of game situations as a deep threat who can get a shot off quick as well as a closer with his 90% FT shooting.

At SF, Prince is a versatile and quiet scorer. He can shoot threes off the catch or penetrate and score with his long arms, he has consistently been able to be a solid all around scorer for about 14-15 pts, he had a down year this year because of a terrible coach and a team that couldn’t contend. He should play with more fire on a contender. Shawne Williams has been one of the best this past season at catch and shoot 3’s, his job is to stand in the corners to spread the floor. Bill Walker will be used as a spark off the bench during droughts.

At PF, Millsap has improved his offense each and every year in a bloated frontcourt. He can now knock down an open mid range jumper as well as attack the paint. Millsap is a threat offensively that the opposing D cannot sleep on as he is guaranteed to put up 15+ ppg efficiently. Tyler Hansbrough is a rising player in this league, his work ethic, hustle, toughness, and winning mentality bring a lot to the table. Hansbrough is another quiet scorer who can hit the mid range jumper and score craftily from close range, he is an important rotation player that will be asked to nab at least 12 ppg and occasionally go off for 20+. Okur, coming off two rough, but isolated injuries will be weened back into the rotation. His ability to stretch the floor and hit threes at a high rate will be useful in specific game situations and can step up into another important role player at PF/C if he can return to his pre-injury form shooting the ball. You may even see some stagger screens run for him like what you see with Dirk.

At C, It is no question that Dwight Howard is the most dominant center in the league. His evolving post game has made HUGE strides and is a threat as a #1 scorer with his back behind the basket, second chance pts, and of course some nasty dunks/alley oops. Andersen will be a big 2nd chance player with offensive rebounds.

I think this team will lead the league in pts in the paint with slashers and a plethora of scorers down low(Dwight, Millsap, Hansbrough). This team has a good build of shooters and different types of shooters (spot up, moving off the ball catch and shoot, etc.) and doesn’t have to rely on it like the current Magic team do. With guys like Howard, Andersen, and guys with length like Tayshaun Prince, I think this team will do damage with offensive rebounds and make teams pay. Unless it is a missed shot by the opposition, this team will play a slower half court offense to set up the frontcourt players.

DEFENSE
This team prides itself on defense. This was the clear team component I vied for. This team can match up with any team, even the current Heat. There are two premiere wing defenders in Allen and Prince and a defensive anchor in Mr. DPOY. Shotblocking will always be present with Andersen in when Howard is on the bench. I can always have a great wing defender against the opposing team’s star player without sacrificing offense. For example I can always have a lineup of:

Richardson/Meeks
Prince

or

T.Allen(racks up steals)
Sh. Williams(who is a pretty athletic defender himself who had to D up 4’s and 5’s at times because of the situation he was in lolDantoni)

Most importantly, there is no “liability” on defense, everyone on this team can play solid man defense and a winner like Hansbrough will put in 110% on hustle and will inspire other teammates to do the same.

Imagine if our team needed just 1 stop at the end of the game and we come out with
T.Allen
Jared Jeffries/Sh. Williams
Tayshaun Prince
Paul Millsap/Andersen
Dwight

FUTURE
This team is still young with much of the core entering their primes within the next 5 years. Dwight still has yet to maximize his potential, Teague will grow into a more knowledgeable player with more experience and develop a better passing game who will continue to learn the game and become a reliable playoff PG.

Richardson and Prince are both 30, Richardson can still play at a high level for roughly 3 more years with Allen and Meeks improving throughout the years. Meeks has the potential to become a Ray Allen type of player and overtake the starting position within a couple years. Prince I can see still being an efficient player even at 35. His length, defense, and experience will still be useful through the years. Shawne Williams can overtake the starting position in Prince’s final years as he can develop into a lockdown defender with his size and athleticism(7-3 wingspan). His three point shooting will never leave him either as he builds the rest of his offensive game.

The only player over 30 is Chris Andersen. Besides that, the PF position is full of youth that are already contributing. This team has very little holes in the coming years that can be fixed through
the draft etc. Guys like Bill Walker and BJ Mullens can turn into serviceable role players in time.

FIT

I don't think I have to explain how this team fits together in depth as the entire post should give you an idea. This team has players that can compliment each other very well. Slashers, guys who can come in and score in bunches, Spot up catch and shooters, runners of the screen, big guys who can rebound, set strong screens, and definitely score in the paint and back behind the basket. This team is athletic and fast and can score on the break whether it's a three point jumper or an easy score in the paint.

Defensively, everyone on this team can maintain their man and provide some great help D a la Howard/Andersen. Guys like Hansbrough and Allen will keep this team motivated to continue playing hard defense.

There are no primadonna egos on this team and most of these players have come from winning teams/championship teams and know what needs to be done to hoist up the trophy.

C:  EMEKA OKAFOR(32)/Erick Dampier(6)/Desagana Diop(6)
IL: Brad Miller, LARRY HUGHES,  DJ WHITE, LINAS KLEIZA

TEAM OBJECTIVES:
To be a top team by covering all bases.
There is a saying that don't put all your eggs in one basket. In building this team, I made sure that I didn't put all my assets at just either of my backcourt or my frontcourt, because it would open up a weak point for my opponent.

I was able to create a team that have one of the league's best backcourt and frontcourt by putting atleast one 26 years old or younger all-nba team member at either of my backcourt or my frontcourt.

To be a top team for now and in the next five years.
Looking at my team, what you will notice is that I manage to have a good mixture of old and young players. But since I'm still looking to be competitive in the next five years,I made sure that my top players or my core players (Deron/Young/Horford/Emeka) falls into the "young players" category.

To have an answer to the leagues' trend of having a good frontcourt duo.
I made sure that I have the leagues best defensive frontcourt by the trio of Shawn Marion/Al Horford/Emeka Okafor. All of these three guys are top 5 defensive players in their positions. Horford and Emeka are elite post defenders. The trio have a combined stats of (26rpg and 3.4bpg).

OFFENSE:
"Pick Your Poison"

My team scores in every way possible:
- Pick and roll with my two all nba team members in Al Horford and Deron Williams. (see Deron and Boozer's unstoppable PnR.)
- Al Horford at the low post.
- Nick Young's ability to score with the isolation(17.4ppg 44%FG% 39%3pt% with 1.6 3pg/g 81.6%FT%).
- Andre Miller scoring ability and making everyone better.(see his stint with the 76ers)
- Shawn Marion's slashing ability. (see play-offs)
- Set plays for my shooters (Martell Webster, Francisco Garcia, Azubuike and Linas Kleiza)

My team can score inside-out. Everyone is a threat to score. I have the top 3 and the top 12 PG in the league (combined 19apg) to facilitate my offense. I have a good post player. I have a good isolation player. I have a good slashers. I have good perimeter shooters.

I have three guys in my starting unit who can score 20ppg at any night (Deron, Horford, and Young). My starting unit has a combined stat of 75.5ppg and 17.4 apg.

Off the bench, my offense is lead by Andre Miller. Andre Miller is known as being the pure PG who makes his teammates better by putting them in perfect scoring positions (see his stint with the Nuggets, 76ers and the Blazers). I have also good scoring swingmen to play alongside him with (Azabuike, Webster, Garcia and Kleiza).

DEFENSE:
"I make sure you live and die with your perimeter shots."

The trio of Shawn Marion, Al Horford and Emeka Okafor is probably one of the best defensive frontcourt in the league history. Marion is known to be a lock down defender. Marion's probably the closest thing to Scottie Pippen of this generation. Al Horford and Emeka are not just elite rebounders, but they are also known as elite post defenders. Emeka's shotblocking ability should be an intimidating presence for every soul wanting to challenge our interior defense.

Our perimeter defense is not a defensive liability either, I got guys like Webster, Garcia, Hughes and Deron who are good perimeter defenders. And off the bench, I have Diop and Dampier who are also known to be good rebounders and shotblockers.

FUTURE:
"Young ultra talented core is the key."

Because of financial issues, it's hard to maintain the whole team for the long run. Instead, looking at how teams that won multiple championships, they have always maintained their young talented core and not the whole team. The Lakers had Shaq and Kobe/ Gasol, Bynum and Kobe. Spurs had Duncan, Manu and Tony. These teams that competed for more than 5 years always maintained their all-star/all nba team members, these makes them have a flexible bench and role players. Like for instance, the Lakers replace Ariza with Artest and now Shannon Brown seems to be the next in line. The important with having a team with a bright future is to makes sure your core players are young and talented. And in my case, I have two 26 or younger all-nba team members (Deron Williams and Al Horford) in either of my backcourt and my frontcourt.

And it doesn't just stop there..

I also have Emeka Okafor (28 years old) and Nick Young (26 years old) to play the supporting roles with Horford and Deron Williams.

The future is bright with Deron Williams (26), Al Horford(25), Emeka Okafor(28), Nick Young(26) and plenty of young swingmen to replace Marion (James Johnson (24), Martell Webster (25); Kelenna Azubuike (28); Linas Kleiza(26) in the next five years.

FIT:
"I got your back."

A team's success depends on how well they fit together. And with my team, I make sure everyone is a good fit with one another.

Deron Williams compliments Al Horford's ability to knock down mid range jumpers and ability to score inside. Horford is looking to play the Karl Malone/Carlos Boozer role.

Horford's ability to score inside and attract help defense, compliments our team's shooters (Deron, Young, Garcia, Webster, Azubuike, Kleiza and Webster). And reciprocally, my shooters compliment Andre Miller and Shawn Marion.

Nick Young's scoring ability solidifies our offense. While he might not be known as a good distributor, I have two very good PGs, probably the best PG duo, who can play alongside him. While he might not be a good rebounder, we have three great rebounders at the SF,PF and C positions.

Although statistically speaking, the Wizards is a better defensive team with Nick Young. Nick Young is not known to be a good defensive player. Deron, Marion, Hoford and Emeka's defense got Nick Young's back.

OVERALL:
Offensively, I can score in every way possible. I have three players who can score 20ppg, in my starting unit (Deron, Horford and Nick Young). Pick and roll involving Deron and Horford is money in the bank. My starting unit have a combined average of 75ppg, 17apg, with good shooting percentage.

Defensively, my starting frontcourt could be one of the best defensive frontcourt in the league's history. With a combined stats of (26rpg and 3.4bpg). And I don't have any liabilities w/ my perimeter defense.

In the next five years, I have two all nba team members who are only 26 years old or younger. I have also have a young supporting cast (James Johnson 24, Webster 25, Kleiza 26, Azubuike  28, Young 26 and Emeka 28) to play along side both these all nba team members.

With regards to my team's fit, everyone compliments each other offensively and defensively. I also have two of the leagues top PGs to make sure everything is well orchestrated.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Defense Wins Games, Right?

We feel like we have everything a contender needs to be successful on the defensive end. We have versatility in Afflalo/Moute, athleticism in Darrell/Amare, the NBA's toughest mofos in Booker/Bogans, solid team defense in Dunleavy, quickness in Sessions, and overall, amazing captains that push their players to give their all on the defensive end on each possession. Marc Gasol's amazingly high BBIQ on defense covers up everything that Amare lacks, so please don't try to bring anything to the hole, because it will either end up getting blocked, or you will find out the true meaning of a "hard foul." Our wing defense is unbelievably amazing. We have a bunch of guys on the bench and one in the starting lineup, that thrive off forcing the opposing team to drive into the lane. We feel that we have the ability to shut down any offense, elite or not, on any given night, and rightfully so.

Offense Is The Key To Success.

With Amare, Marc, and Felton in the starting lineup, we feel that we will be unable to be stopped on offense, every night. Felton to Amare is the closest thing to magic that you will ever witness, and Marc is easily Amare's best compliment at the center position in the entire NBA, now you mix that all together, and you have an elite offense built around just 3 players. Oh yea, did I mention that I have arguably the most dominant scoring bench in the league? Out of 10 guys, 5 of them averaged over 7.3 points per game, 4 of them averaged over 9, and 1 of them (Roman Sessions) averaged a staggering 13.3 PPG while also dishing out 5.2 assists a night. There aren't many teams in this league that can truly say that they have a bunch of guys on the bench that could easily be starters on a lot of the teams in the NBA, in fact, I might be the only GM that can say that. Combine the starters & bench together, and you have yourself a very enjoyable treat. Who's going to stop our inside game? What about the perimeter? Or even the bench? We feel like the answer to each of those questions is "no one."

The Next 5 Years & Beyond

The future is very bright for our team. We currently only have 4 guys out of 15, over the age of 30, 3 of those 4 guys are 3rd options at their respective positions, and the 4th one can easily be replaced by his backups. Let's start with the captions. Amare, Gasol, and Felton are still relatively young & they either haven't reached their prime yet, or are in the midst of their prime. The person who is in the midst of his prime is Amar'e, however, he still hasn't reached his peak point. Once his jump shot develops perfectly, which may take 2-3 years for the best results, he will be impossible to guard, I don't care if you're the best defender at the 4 or 5, you will not be able to contain this guy, that should tell you how amazing he will be. Now let's take a look at Felton & Gasol. These 2 fellas are still a couple years away from their prime, and with both of these guys being a great compliment to each other, you would have to guess that these 2 will develop into an unbelievably talented duo once Amare starts to decline. The bench players are pretty much built off youth. You have a young guy who made the "All Rookie Team" last year (Gary Neal), an amazing defensive specialist who is currently improving in other aspects of his game (Moute), the best bench PF in the league (Darrell Arthur), the best bench PG who had a career high of 24 assists to go with 20 points earlier in his career (Ramon Sessions), a developmental Euro Big who will learn a ton from watching Marc on a daily basis (Nikola), a defensive bad boy who is climbing the rope on the offensive end (Sam Young), last but not least, a future top 5 who already excels perfectly in defense & perimeter shooting (Arron Afflalo). All of these young pieces, if developed currently, will be incredibly valuable in the future, and they will become immediate contributors to this team when asked to do so. We feel that we have one of the most brightest futures in the entire league, considering all of our young players have yet to hit their prime.

Atlanta Hawks

Roster :

G: Darren Collison
Landry Fields
Goran Dragic
Marcus Thornton
Patrick Mills
James Anderson

F: Carlos Boozer
Stephen Jackson
Gordon Hayward
Patrick Patterson
Peja Stojakovic

C: Nene
Robin Lopez
Shaquille O'Neal
Ryan Hollins

Minutes :

PG:Darren Collison(30)Goran Dragic(18)
SG:Landry Fields(25)Marcus Thornton(20)Gordon Hayward(3)
SF:Stephen Jackson(35)Gordon Hayward(13)
PF:Carlos Boozer(35)Patrick Patterson(13)
C: Nene(30)Robin Lopez(15)Patrick Patterson(3)

Offense:

Offensively this is a very talented roster. We either have Stephen Jackson who can create shot for himself and always be a big heart in critical time and we also have one of the best post scorer in the league-- Carlos Boozer. Inside-out would definately be our favourate offensive strategy as Darren Collison is one of the fastest PG which can create many oppotunity for Fields and Jackson who are great shooters. Our inside offense would be all around Boozer and Nene leads in the percentage board last season, Nene and Boozer can fits each other very well and be a more efficient frontcourt in the league.Besides my starting lineup, our bench scoring would be a big advantage over other teams as we have a excellent scorer--Marcus Thornton who had a very impressive performence after traded to Kings last season. Thornton has proved he can be a consistant 20+ scorer if given enough chances and as our 6th man,Thornton would lead the best 2nd unit in the league which also including some other talented young players as Dragic, Patterson, Robin Lopez and Gordon Hayward.

Deffense:

This is a very balanced team defensively with no big weakness. Nene and Boozer would be one of the most hustled frontcourt which gives opponents very little rooms to score in post. While we also have a talented defensive wings as S-Jax and Landry Fields. As a rokkie Fields has already shown people his hustle and effert on the court with pretty high Bball IQ.S-Jax ,while not very quick but has enough length and wingspan to be an efficient defender. Darren Collison is another underrated defender although he would give up few inches but he's a high energy defender who always give opponents high pressure in the game.

Future:

Even our core combination (Boozer29—S-Jax32—Nene28) is not very young, but they all still have 2 or 3 years left in their primes while our backcourt (Collison23-Fields22-Thornton23-Dragic24)is young enough to keep making progress in the next few years. This backcourt would become one of the best force in 3 years and don't forget our other bench youngsters are even younger and more talented with Patterson(21), Robin Lopez(22)and Gordon Hayward(20). The one player have to be mentioned is Gordon Hayward who has vastly improved in the second half of last season when promoted to be a regular starter which indictated his bright future in the next few years. He can replace S-Jax two years later if everything goes well. That being said this team can not only be a contender this season but also can remain being a competitive palyoff team in the future.

Chicago Bulls
Starters:
PG - Brandon Jennings (36)
SG - Rudy Fernendez (30)
SF - Shane Battier (35)
PF - Anthony Randolph (30)
C - Joakim Noah (40)

Bench:
PG - Eric Bledsoe (12)
SG - Xavier Henry (15), Brandon Jennings (3)
SF - Xavier Henry (6), Quincy Pondexter (5), Dominic McGuire (2)
PF - Kenyon Martin (16), Joe Smith (2)
C - Hilton Armstrong (6), Kenyon Martin (2)

Offense:
Picking so far down it was tough to get one of the big time scorers, so I went with an athletic team that could get up and down the court. Brandon Jennings is going to help this team get out and run. The Bulls hope he can regain some of his rookie season magic. In Rudy Fernendez and Shane Battier both can hit an open jumper which will help the spacing for Jennings. Randolph and Noah provide some athleticism up front. This is a team that is going to look for its defense to feed the offense.

On the bench, I looked to continue the up tempo play with a really athletic back court of Eric Bledsoe who had a solid rookie season that he will continue to improve on and Xavier Henry who should provide some instant offense. I look for Henry to get a lot of minutes both at the 2 and the 3.

Defense:
In my view this is where this team will win or lose games. Brandon Jennings is the weakest link on this side of the ball. He is fast and quick enough to be able to improve in this area but at this point he is a liability. The same goes for Rudy Fernendez. Shane Battier is a savvy defender that know where to be and is rarely caught out of position. Anthony Randolph really hasn't played extended minutes but seems to have the ability to block shots and rebound well. He is a bit undersized though and will have a tough time with some of the stronger PF's in the league. He has time to fill out his lanky frame. That leads us to the defensive anchor in Joakim Noah. Noah is a great shot blocker and isn't afraid to mix it up with anyone. He is also a great rebounder and will look to start the break with his good outlet passing.

The Future:
The future of this team really hinges on Brandon Jennings taking the next step and becoming a big time PG. Also on the same token Anthony Randolph has to overtime show more consistently what he has so far in flashes. If they live up to their potential I could see a very competitive team built around them as the cornerstones. I eventually see Xavier Henry stepping in as a 2 and Shane Battier will need to be replaced at the 3 in the next couple years. Ideally this team will need a go to scorer either at the 2 or the 3 before it can be a real contender.

I see Doug Collins or Tom Thibodeau as ideal coaching candidates for a team that is going to play pressure D and look to let their D lead to their O.

New Orleans Hornets

C: Andrew Bogut (26)/Spencer Hawes (23)
PF: Tyrus Thomas (24)/Ersan Ilyasova (24)
SF: Ron Artest (31)/Josh Howard (31)/Donte Greene (23)
SG: JR Smith (25)/Gilbert Arenas (29)/Lance Stephenson (20)
PG: Tony Parker (29)/Mario Chalmers (25)/Nate Robinson (27)

In the interest of simplicity, I'll skip the pictures, etc.

Minutes Breakdown:

C: Bogut (36)/Hawes (12)
PF: T. Thomas (30)/Ilyasova (18)
SF: Artest (26)/J. Howard (15)/D. Greene (7)
SG: JR Smith (22)/Arenas (20)/Robinson or Stephenson (6)
PG: Parker (30)/Chalmers (12 - 18 when Stephenson is playing)/Robinson (6)

Bench: Stephenson or Robinson

Offense

Unlike some other teams, I don't have a roster full of burners, so the offense isn't intended to be a fast break-based, run and gun style. Everything starts with Parker, the primary ballhandler. His responsibility is to keep the ball moving through the half court set, spot the open man, and get off the highest percentage shot available. Bogut, down low, will be the first option wherever possible, since there's no higher percentage shot than a dunk. Thomas and Artest are intended to help carry the offensive rebounding load, and put in as many close range shots and second-chance baskets as they can muster. Smith will provide the outside shooting, with Parker's help, and when there's nothing down low, they'll be there to stretch out the defense.

The second unit will play a bit differently. Hawes isn't by a long shot the inside threat Bogut is, so he's clearly not the number one option: that'd be Gilbert Arenas from the outside. Arenas won't be the primary ballhandler, the way he's used to, so his responsibility is to get himself open and wait for Chalmers to feed him. Ilyasova will handle the bulk of the inside work, Hawes will be shot if he ventures beyond about 15' out, so Chalmers will take whatever long bombs aren't coming from Arenas. Howard's going to get most of the mid-range shots directed his way, and will have the freedom to slash if he sees an opportunity. Did I mention Hawes not being permitted to do something stupid yet?

When they get minutes, primarily with the second team, Nate Robinson will handle the Arenas role, Donte Greene will split his time between the low post and the mid range, and Stephenson will run iso plays when he gets out there.

Defense

While the Hornets may not be the most offensively explosive team out there, they'll acquit themselves nicely on the other end of the court. JR Smith may be average on his best day, but the other four starters range from plus (Bogut) to all-world (Artest) defenders. Artest will be assigned to the opposing team's best shooter, regardless of position, unless he's also their primary ballhandler. That'd be Parker's responsibility. In that case, Artest will cover their second best shooter, and move towards the paint once the shot goes up. Bogut and Thomas are to hang around the basket, Thomas aiming mostly for blocks, Bogut for rebounds. Smith will need to keep himself active, but his role is to keep from making a mistake, more than anything else. Whatever he can contribute will be fine, but he's to stay out of the paint wherever possible, as if we do see a fast break opportunity, he'll probably be the one best positioned to capitalize.

The second unit, there's no other way to put this, is going to be soft up the middle. Ilyasova's going to be the main presence, and Hawes will support him as best he can, but the pair aren't world beaters on the level of my first team. Howard and Chalmers will have to be the primary defenders, as Agent 0D probably isn't going to be excited about playing people tough in a bench role. On the plus side, it's not that different here than it is in my first unit, since Smith's the weak link as well.

If the second unit's defense proves to be more of a problem than expected, the rotations will change up some in order to put Thomas and Artest out there with Hawes/Arenas/Chalmers for about 10 of their 12-15 minutes a game, and let Ilyasova and Howard get in on the first team a bit more. That could help mask the defensive deficiencies of the second team, but it's an adjustment that'd be made in season, once the effectiveness of the team had been determined.

Future:

The Hornets are built for the medium to long term. Everyone's under 30 except for Artest and Josh Howard, both of whom are only 31. Parker and Arenas are 29, Nate R.'s 27, and everyone else is 20-26. My vision is that in two years' time, when the vet-laden teams are starting to come down from their peak, the Hornets will be ascending. Artest/Howard will still be effective, Parker and Arenas will be just at the tail end of their prime, Bogut will be at his absolute peak, and Thomas and Smith will be ready to lead.

In the longer term, Chalmers will be stepping up as Parker's winding down, Donte Greene is intended to inherit the starting job a couple years down the line, and Stephenson should eventually supplant Artest as the second team SG. The Hornets' best shot at a championship isn't today, but it is around the corner.

F - Vince Carter - 6'7", 220 pounds, 34 years old

Depth Pieces:

G - Dahntay Jones - 6'6", 210 pounds, 30 years old
F - Mickael Pietrus - 6'6", 220 pounds, 29 years old
G - Sebastian Telfair - 6'0", 175 pounds, 25 years old

Minute Allocation:
PG - Jose Calderon (34), LeAndro Barbosa (14)
SG - James Harden (34), Vince Carter (10), Chase Budinger (4)
SF - Grant Hill (24), Vince Carter (15), Chase Budinger (9)
PF - Elton Brand (23), Taj Gibson (25)
C - DeMarcus Cousins (34), Elton Brand (14)

* Substitute Barbosa and Budinger's minutes with Dahntay Jones and Mickael Pietrus against teams with top flight wing scorers*

The Lakers On Offense:
On offense, the Lakers are going to take a cerebral approach by letting our elite setup man Jose Calderon read the defense and make the necessary passes to get the highest percentage looks. We will be looking to the post early and often. The scoring tandem of Elton Brand and DeMarcus Cousins will be a nearly unguardable in the post and present matchup nightmares for any opponent. With Brand manning the high post and Cousins entrenched deep under the basket, we don't think there is a team out there that can prevent us from scoring in the paint at will. With so much attention being paid to the paint, guys like James Harden and Grant Hill should get high percentage looks and rain in buckets. LeAndro Barbosa and Vince Carter coming in off the bench gives us the unique advantage of getting nearly 30 points a game out of two players on the second unit. Barbosa being one of the more aggressive scoring guards in the league and Carter still being one of the more crafty scorers in the game.

The Lakers On Defense:
On defense, the Lakers are one of the few teams in the league that can throw waves of defenders at you regardless of what kind of offense you run. If you have a strong scoring frontcourt, get ready to be tested by the premier defender at the PF position in Taj Gibson. Elton Brand is another strong post defender that is not one to hesitate at the opportunity to commit a hard foul when needed. DeMarcus Cousins, while being young, is a huge body with rare athleticism that will no doubt develop into a disruptive force with time. We think the presence of Elton Brand and Taj Gibson will accelerate that very process. If you're a team that looks to your backcourt and wing for offense, you will have no easy task there as well. Grant Hill is a ELITE defender coming off a year where he got DPotY consideration (7th in votes). Dahntay Jones and Mickael Pietrus are two more B+ defenders that can guard multiple positions. For instance, Jones just came off a playoff series where he was extremely disruptive guarding the MVP of the league at the PG position. So if opposing teams begin attacking Calderon, a quick fix is just a timeout away. Harden and Budinger are two more solid defenders that cannot be taken advantage of.

The Future Is Bright:
Despite being a veteran-laced, win-now team, we feel that the future in Los Angelas is bright as ever. Having two studs at the C and SG position that are both 21 or under, we feel our future is as bright as any team in the league. The two oldest players in the starting line-up (Hill and Brand) have two young replacements already lined up in Budinger and Gibson. With alot of expiring contracts in the upcoming years and all our major building blocks still on their rookie deals, we are in perfect position to exploit our cap flexibility and retool on the fly while remaining a contender.
