Welcome aboard!

BleedGreen1989 wrote:Played a very a very similiar one called "pick 2" where you pick a franchise, pick 2 players currently on that roster, and then draft.

I would love to play. I'll take my Boston Celtics. How active is this? Do you often have guys drop out and not play after a few rounds?

Pretty much what PK5 & Dilbert said. Everyone is generally active, so you don't have to worry about this shutting down out of nowhere.

JordanMars wrote:Ill take the ex sam hinkie Rockets!

Just make sure you're active this time bro. You bailed last year after the first round.

tgo2223 wrote:Can I get the Knicks

Of course.

PK5 wrote:Give me them Chicago Bulls. Thanks for starting this up again Semaj. Looks like we have an early group so far.

Not a problem at all my dude. You already know we couldn't let a year go past without one of these getting started up lol

CinciSixersFan wrote:Semaj- Thanks for setting this up again. I assume the draft order isn't set yet, that was just the teams in alphabetic order?

I am going to take the Lakers again as the NBA is better when the Lakers are great and that's just what I'm going to make them!

Also, as always if you need to give me a 2nd team go for it, my preference in no particular order would be IND, CHI, CLE, or whoever is in need of a GM

Yea, it's just listed in alphabetical order until I do the draft lottery after all spots are filled. You're more than welcome to take over another team again if necessary.

Good sh*t last year man. Best of luck to you & everyone else in 4.0.

Anyway, Semaj will be the "CEO" this go around, but I'm sure I'll still be around a lot. Feel free to e-mail me at psk5070@gmail.com for any reason.

Handful of questions for clarification, Semaj. The rules are slightly different every time we do this, so I want to be clear.

Semaj wrote:-You draft NBA players who are currently under contract.

Four questions here.

First, sometimes we include the incoming draft class, sometimes we don't. Are we excluding them this time?
Second, sometimes we include free agents not actively under contract but not officially retired, sometimes we don't. Are we excluding them this time?
Third, if we're excluding the two aforementioned categories, I presume we're using the rosters effective on the last day of the season, correct? If so, four, do we include players who had been under contract at one point, but were released for some reason? (Not that many of those would be drafted, but one or two might.)

1st Round - 5th Round: 6 hours between picks
6th Round - 8th Round: 4 hours between picks
9th Round - 12th Round - 2 hours between picks

Will there be set periods of time when the clock will be on/off? Obviously, no matter how we decide, there will be some people who will have difficulty with the timing of the clock, but I'm presuming the vast bulk of players will be in the Eastern TZ, so will the clock run, say, 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Eastern, and have the rest of the time "off the clock," or will the clock go no matter what? If the latter, who do we send picks to when you're asleep?

Thanks.

First, sometimes we include the incoming draft class, sometimes we don't. Are we excluding them this time?

Yea, I think it's best that we go ahead and exclude the draft class this year, mainly because when it's time for me to do the sim, the rookie ratings are usually pretty awful.

Second, sometimes we include free agents not actively under contract but not officially retired, sometimes we don't. Are we excluding them this time?

I'm fine with you selecting someone who didn't make their retirement official yet, just be sure to know that said player will lose all value if he does retire before 4.0 concludes. A perfect example would be Shaq during 2.0 a couple years back; someone took him in like round 7 or something, but due to him retiring a week later before 2.0 judging was over, he became irrelevant & instantly rendered useless. Same thing happened with Yao Ming. So, in the grand scheme of things, it's a risky move to pick an old head on his way out the league, but if that player doesn't retire until August (4.0 will conclude before then), you will have found a diamond in the rough.

Third, if we're excluding the two aforementioned categories, I presume we're using the rosters effective on the last day of the season, correct?

Correct.

If so, four, do we include players who had been under contract at one point, but were released for some reason? (Not that many of those would be drafted, but one or two might.)

Yep, they will be eligible in the draft as long as they are technically still under contract. This means that all players who were amnestied or waived (assuming they were still on the books for this season) will be attainable. Anyone who signed a 10-day contract & didn't get it renewed before the season ended will not be eligible.

Will there be set periods of time when the clock will be on/off?

Not quite. However, the clock will switch pace throughout the draft.

The clock is actually going to be nonstop, thus allowing those who aren't in the ETZ to have an equal opportunity to make their picks without having a disadvantage compared to those on EST. This can also help speed up the draft drastically, which is why it is important to know how far you are away from making another pick.

With that said, most people will NOT draft immediately & often use quite a bit of time to make their pick so that they can select the best player possible to fit their scheme; this isn't always the case though. The draft sometimes might pick up the pace a bit, and around 5-10 people will make their selection within an hour or so. If you feel as though you won't be able to make your pick due to the inevitable circumstance such as that taking place, just PM/email me or PK5 your desired draft choice (it's best to send a list of 3 with each player listed in order from best to worst) & we will simply make the selection for you. Of course, if all 3 players get picked before it's your time to draft, then you will be skipped, in which you will be able to make your selection at any time.

Hopefully this clears everything up!

That got nearly everything. The real thing I was trying to get at with the clock question was that sending you or PK a proxy list might not actually make much difference, if you're asleep at the same time I am, and what happens if the clock runs out while we're all asleep, and someone who's awake sees I've been skipped, posts, and picks the person I had sent in for my proxy? (Or worse, what if that happens and there's a run, so 3-5 picks have been made before we can double back to that?) Will the policy be to essentially unwind the draft to that point, give me the player from my proxy, and have everyone thereafter re-pick, or does the person who posted in the thread get the player, and I make a new pick?

Also, one slight modification I'd recommend to the proxy list thing. If people are going to send in proxy lists, sending 3 names is good, but the best thing to do is send in one name for each pick between the current one and your pick. That way you're guaranteed to have at least one name from your list available at your pick.
