Not true. Joel isn't allowed to spin to the basket and have his elevated elbows blowing up an opponent's face. The game is called very differently for post players. Shaq's physical demolition style doesn't play in today's game.

I think Embiid had one season early on where he was top ten in offensive fouls and decided that the style was not conducive to scoring a lot of points or even staying on the court.

It's a very different game today. I watched a bit more on the Shaq, Dikembe and other center highlights. Centers in the post were allowed to use their arms a lot more to push guys off them. Arms were often up around the defenders collarbone or neck. Defenses have also changed; there was a lot less of the "swarming" wings back then. Often times you'd watch two lumbering bigs working on Shaq, but rarely were wings coming in while Shaq was backing a guy down to steal the ball.

Yeah I mean you also literally could not play zone (officially) until the 00s and the soft doubles they do against Embiid all the time now would have been illegal defense. Watch the 01 finals Mutombo is on a complete island on Shaq with no help.

Biid has no legs and no clue how to play in a system that doesn't revolve around him.

He was good today and had the best plus minus for the whole team.

I hope joe gets his ass handed to him in the Olympics. And that Anthony Davis takes his starting spot. I want him to come into the season with a chip on his shoulder and a desire to be the best player he can be. Think team and defense first and leave those personal accolades to others.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Was the point of the clip AD starting to fake grab his leg after blowing the dunk? Just asking before I comment.

Didn’t catch the game but an excellent looking box score for Joel. I feel like he’s gonna be hitting his stride with this team right in time for the Olympics.

Watched the game. That's the kind of play from Joel that makes me wish he wears that brace in every game for precaution

He's wearing an enormous brace for the Olympics. It's probably a stipulation the Sixers put on him to play and why he looks extra stiff with his movements.

I'm aware and very happy about it. He should add one to the other knee

Not watching the game but apparently the French crowd is booing Embiid for choosing to play for the US over France. Hopefully as such an emotionally-driven player, it won't affect his performance the whole tournament. Today he hasn't looked good including 3 missed FTs but KD and LeBron are carrying the team.

Weirdly, the ESPN box score shows everyone playing zero minutes so I can't see how many minutes he's played.

He doesn’t look good, but to be frank I didn’t expect him to look good in the Olympics

Is the brace going to be something he has to wear for the rest of his career? Kind of worried about it restricting his movement a bit.
