We can do better (worse) than 6th worst. Shut down Embiid and make up an injury for PG. Maxey can’t win with these cats by himself. Then shut him down after a few weeks also. Turn it into a straight nosedive and we can end the season under 25 wins.

I think even with a full-on tank the best/worst we can hope for is 6th worst. According to Tankathon, even if we got to the 6th worst we'd still have a 54.2% chance of giving the pick to OKC. In other words, a tank likely gives us a less than 50/50 chance of getting the pick.

There is no good option for this season - we are well and truly f'ed.

A 46% chance to keep the pick is absolutely worth a tank job. It shouldn’t even be a discussion at this point.

Maybe…. I’m going to be pretty upset when we piss away the season only to give OKC a better pick. Admittedly, I’m not sure what a better alternative is.

Once you accept this season is shot, it becomes a lot easier. Trust me.

I’d even go as far to say the draft lottery has the potential to be more exciting than anything that will happen on the court this season.
always a jump shot away.

Charlotte beat the Bulls...Pels beat the Jazz...Brooklyn is making it a game against the Lakers. All we need to do is keep losing games which will definitely happen now that Embiid is shelved for the next two weeks. This is like the Bynum nightmare all over again, but it's something the majority of us on here should be better prepared for.

So on the 15th, the injury report:

Embiid was out with a foot sprain
PG played, but was on the injury report with ankle sprain
And Caleb Martin was out with groin tightness

Two days later on the 17th, the injury report:

Embiid's foot sprain has now changed to out with knee swelling
PG's ankle has now changed to groin tightness
And Caleb Martin's groin tightness has now changed to a hip sprain

3 key players had their old injuries totally removed from the injury report and replaced with new injuries. Two of which didn't even play and somehow their old injuries totally healed and now immediately replaced with new injuries in just two days. Just what in god's name is going on down there?

Dude, it's always been this way? Were you here for the Andrew Bynum saga? Remember how the front office/media just kept screwing with us? "Bynum will be ready after the all star break" "Bynum had a setback" "The treadmill keeps breaking down" "Bynum caught with weed." They're doing the same **** to us now.

I called this being a Bynum situation at the start of the year and people called me crazy.

I just don't understand how they gave Joel that contract extension. He is currently the 14th oldest center in the NBA, before the extension has even kicked in. Knowing his injury history and all, how could they do it.
Also letting him play in the Olympics was probably a big mistake since he could have used that time to heal properly.

The season is pissed away either way, so what's the difference? Just cut out the ridiculous charade is all.

Your first mistake is trying to make sense of this.

Secondly, they need to have a handful of ready made excuses for Silver when they pack it in and start tanking for real.

Which should be after they get smoked on the road tonight and tomorrow.

Predictions for Monday morning:

Embiid out "until after the AS break"
PG out "10-14 days with leg soreness"
Maxey "day-to-day with a lower arm contusion"

I think we all knew it was a Bynum situation; many of us couldn't believe the extension after the report indicated the team knew in advance.

Two last ditch hopes to salvage this team:

1. Harris cut a deal with Silver for ping-pong balls and moved stadium back to south Philly;

2. Joel (and this is the depressing one) tells team he plans to retire and team moves PG13 for Jimmy and let Jimmy walk after he tanks out the team fully and we erase $100 mil in contracts.

Zero chance Joel retires and kicks away 200M (or whatever it is). He likely retires at the end of his extension.

I'm wondering now if the Sixers are trying to run an elaborate troll and have a player on the injury report with a new injury every game and see if anyone notices.

Honestly, they probably still won't get the pick. Unlikely to get a worst 6 record and someone always jumps up... They needed a worst 4 to be sure. Tanking needed to start around Christmas.
I still think they need to shut everybody down. Figure out whatever procedure Joel needs to get right before next season. Play Maxey and George periodically. Maxey to keep up his growth, and George so he stays in shape and doesn't get much worse than he already is.

Hope for the best in the lottery

Need a Blazers win against the Rockets tonight. That's a tall task and I doubt it gets done. More importantly we need to lose to Indy tonight.

[We won't win...but] draft lottery night is going to be a lot of fun, and probably super anticlimactic.

I was playing around on tankathon a bit, rolled a few lotto wins into top three slots.

Cannot understate how lucking our way into Flagg, or even Harper would completely alter the trajectory of this franchise, and we all deserve that.

OKC getting our pick would suck for sure but at least it's not the Celtics or some other spoiled franchise being gifted another break. OKC is what we could have been if the NBA didn't step in to remove Hinkie

I'll live with the results of tanking this season away. If we tank and miss the pick, so be it. We need a change and this is the first way to try and do that.

Totally agree with tanking regardless of the pick, but would add that being a big seller at the deadline maybe even gets us some draft capital, and clears some payroll moving forward. I don't believe that Morey will move George, but ridding ourselves of that contract would be one of the best moves he made as GM here.

I didn't really think about the fact that we could make the play-in and still end up with a small chance at winning the lottery (if they lose during the play-in games).

And those lottery odds wouldn't be significantly different from where we can realistically tank our way to.

Either way... I'm checked out. Do what you got to do. Call me when things get interesting again.
