Not if they keep shedding salary and get more space than us to deal this summer. They have some young talent, a bad year, high pick and some money is better than making the playoffs at 8, having the 15th pick, and having just enough money that most teams will match when we throw it at good players. We need to dump salary and lose games, it's that simple. Memphis may look dumb but come out as the winner here.

How about Carney, Ollie, and the Utah pick for Lowry and Miller? Not quite as dumb for them, since they're adding an expiring instead of Willie G's contract, yet far enough into the realm of stupid to fit Chris Wallace's profile.
(And yes, I know this is ridiculous on its face. But no worse than what he's already taken for Gasol.)

NO WAY Miller is a rich man's Korver, and Ollie is an expiring we NEED if we plan on getting a PF this summer

As I said when I started this thread... I expect Denver to be the next Western Conference team to make a stupid move and now rumors are flying that they are interested in Zach Randolph.
Even though it's Isiah, I can't see the Knicks taking back Kenyon Martin or Nene which would mean the Nuggets would have THREE max contract PFs on their roster.

Even though we had the Bibby to ATL deal go down... I'm a little shocked that we're well into Saturday Night of the All-Star break and the rumor mill is as quiet as it is. The Bibby and Gasol deals more or less came out of nowhere, the Shaq deal was leaked a day before it happened, and while the Kidd deal was suggested for a while, it was mostly thought of to be dead before it sprung up (only to be killed by George).
Are these teams doing a better job of keeping their proposals in house???

I agree a lot of trades have been kept secretly and just dropped on us. Usually trades are leaked (Shaq, Kidd,) and I check RealGM every couple hours just to make sure another blockbuster happend. When I came home today I saw Bibby traded, I was like WOW where is all this coming from. It's like some 15 year old is playing NBA 2K8 and posting it on RealGM Front Page.

that is exactly the reason they made the trade-- think Johan Santana and Minnesota.. Memphis looking to sell the team, wants to lower payroll.
They pick up some future draft picks and a possible starter for them in the process.
as you also said, now they can trade Mike Miller, lose another $7mill/year and maybe get more young (read: CHEAP) pieces.
by trading Miller and Gasol, they save like $80MILLION in salaries over the next 3yrs.....
