If Embiid's not healthy again this season, do you let him go and go after FA Cousins?

It seems like the last few seasons would have taught us by now, that you can't win with a Center or PF that doesn't play defense.

Cousins needs a shot blocking C or PF. It's amazing if he doesn't do well with AD. Not many fit that description better than AD. Myles Turner, Porzingis, or J Isaac could be young prospects that fit with Cousins, if anybody.

I can't wait to see the first Simmons Embiid alley oop.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

Embiid gets the assist, imagine 2 almost 7 footers that are good at creating shots. Defenders should be challenged to stop one of them, let alone both.

Yeah not sure my fears have gone away based on that 1 post. Still haven't seen him bounce a basketball in a gym in over 2 months now.

One of my favorite Embiid stats from last year: On shots less than 6 feet from the basket, the NBA average FG% was 62 last year. When Embiid was guarding the shooter, they shot only 44%. That 18% differential is the best by far. To put some perspective on it, Draymond and Gobert came in around 13%.

Its hard to imagine how good Embiid can be on defense when you consider he's still learning the game. As skilled as he is on offense, his ability to erase mistakes by the perimeter players is probably his most important ability.

Biid is the uncrowned DPOY, I know it sounds like such hype but he is like COMBINING Draymond and Gobert, his defense is unbelievable and people don't even realize it. Put in perspective what an unreal defender you need to be to catapult your entire team from being one of the worst to the absolute BEST, not one of, the best defensive rating which includes being rated above GS, SA and Utah and we know who their best defenders are...results speak for themselves.

The Legend of Joel Embiid

Post#220 » by Ericb5 » Fri Sep 15, 2017 3:44 pm

Seeing the players that ESPN ranks above Embiid is hilarious. Milsap, Porzingis, Klay Thompson?

They really have to contort themselves to justify Embiid to be ranked in the 30's because they can't bring themselves to rank him based purely on his basketball skills.

They factor in his health, which should have no bearing on who the best players are. The list isn't supposed to be ranked by trade value. It is supposed to be who the best players in the league are.

If Embiid stays healthy this year he will be in the top 5-7 next year, but even today he should be in the 10-15 range at least.

I think that today it is legit to still rank people like KAT, Cousins and Davis ahead of him, along with the Durants, Currys, Lebrons, etc...but so many of the players that they rank ahead of him are nowhere close to him.
