Re: 76ers 2023-24 Season Thread Part 1
Grant can’t cover centers for huge stretches of the game like Tobias can. He’s also a level or two below Tobias as a rebounder (not saying Tobias is great there either just that Grant is worse).
I don’t think they’re trading Tobias without getting at least equal size back. I don’t think they’re that eager to use Morris as filler in a trade for a guard or wing either frankly.

Murray is fine, then we need another defender then. Murray and Caruso? Can Caruso play small forward?

Trade 1: Morris/Covington/OKC 1st/2nd for Grant
Trade 2: Korkmaz/House/2028 LAC 1st for Caruso/Drummond
Maxey/Melton/Beverley
Caruso/Oubre/Springer
Grant/Batum/Council
Harris/Reed/Martin
Embiid/Drummond/Bamba
Would involve Reed/Embiid and Harris/Drummond lineups. Still surprised we haven't seen more Reed/Embiid lineups.
Have Grant's contract plus our own 2024/2029/2031 1sts to make a bigger splash this offseason if a star shakes free.

Paul George, aside from age, would be a near perfect fit with Embiid and Maxey. Defense, size, length, playmaking, shooting.
He also kinda feels like a pipedream. Balmer isn't letting talent walk out the door over money, particularly now that he's already committed to Kawhi.

He was the guy Morey was asking for in that Harden deal

I like irrational confidence guys, particularly in the playoffs where those types just don't get shook.
He takes that shot here and misses he's getting roasted though. Contested pull up 3 from like 4 feet behind the line (from a mediocre shooter) with time on the clock and a timeout in their pocket?
Make or miss league baaaaaby.

Knowing full well it was an unreasonable ask too, haha. I don't see them changing their mind with them being arguably the best team in basketball over the last couple months.

Not even sure if Harden would be okay with 30 mil. Sure wasn’t with us. They just traded two firsts for him so I’d assume he’d be the priority over PG13.
With Paul George turning 34 in May, I just can't consider him a prize free agent, regardless of how ideal fit he'd be. Cannot be signing players significantly over 30 years old to multiyear contracts, let alone max level ones.
Our chance to have Paul George in a Sixers uniform was draft night 2010, ha. Ship has sailed.
I’d do 2 yrs 100 mil.

This isn’t baseball. It’s not just money.
Teams cannot acquire a player in a sign-and-trade if that player keeps them above the apron
Teams cannot sign a player waived during the regular season whose salary was over the $12.2 million midlevel exception
Salary matching in trades must be within 110 percent, rather than 125 percent for teams not above the apron
No access to the $5 million taxpayer midlevel exception
Teams cannot use a trade exception generated by aggregating the salaries of multiple players
Teams cannot include cash in a trade
Teams cannot use a trade exception generated in a prior year
First-round picks seven years out are frozen (unable to be traded)
A team's first-round pick is moved to the end of the first round if they remain in the second apron for three out of five seasons
Good luck building a championship contender with all them restrictions. Will not be able to add anything except minimum contracts and drafted players of whatever picks they have left.

Hard to do without giving up Tobias. If you have to include Tobias, how much of an upgrade is it?
If both are coming it is an upgrade but of course blazers aren't going for that

He's hands down my favorite play by play announcer in the game on any platform. Him and Hubie Brown doing a game with Kevin Harlan would be amazing.

I feel like the Sixers can match up with most teams in the playoffs except the Celtics. If they had a Murray or an elite wing in place of Tobi, they would match up on paper, but I feel like they stifle Embiid. Not sure what the answer is. Hopefully Nurse can figure it out.

We need a big guard who can score, playmake and defend vs. Celtics. Someone like D. Murray or M. Brogdon who has the size to not get dominated defensively by White and Holiday, and who can pick up the slack offensively if Maxey gets shut down.
Melton is too small and consistently gets dominated by the Celtics.

...And they were fully aware of all that when they made the trade for James Harden.
Steve Ballmer is the 5th richest man in the world, and has consistently been willing to pay outrageous amounts of money to make that team competitive. New rules are very prohibitive, but the cap is also expected to rise.
Not to mention, this whole diatribe about them not being able to pay 3 guys near max money completely ignores that the SIXERS WOULD BE PAYING 3 GUYS MAX MONEY in this scenario....

I've got Melton as a better defender than either of those guys (especially Brogdon) against pretty much any matchup.

Yup never been a fan of Maxey and Melton starting together. We may get away with it in the reg but it will hurt us in the playoffs.

Lonnie Walker is a quiet target I like as a guard with size that can shoot and defend. Nets are trying to build an asset chest to trade for someone like Donovan Mitchell, so both sellers and hopeful buyers in a way.

You can always bring in Oubre if it's a problem. They should just start him
