Lou could have netted a 1 from about 6+ different playoff teams. Magic probably should have gotten a 2nd rounder thrown in. Especially since Corey Brewer isn't an expiring contract.

If the sixers get the lakers pick at #4, Would you trade Okafor and the #4 pick to boston for #1 Fultz?

Hey, maybe Magic isn't going to be awful. Getting a first round pick for Lou Will is not bad.

They took back Brewer tho.

Of course. No one else would do that trade though. Okafor isn't worth the jump from 4 to 3.

Lou to Houston? Curious to see him and Gordon together.

Like the deal for both teams. Thought one of the many contenders needing scoring off the bench would definitely give up their late 1st for Lou. Bet Washington was offering up theirs as well. Wont praise Magic just yet, but a decent first day on the job.

The trade is pretty bad for the Lakers. Brewer is a negative asset and the Rockets should have to pay to get rid of him. Only getting something like the 27th pick on average for Lou Williams (who's crushing this year and has another year left at 7 million) and a salary dump seems like poor value.

Why do you say that? They are terribly thin at guard positions, and even more so when Eric Gordon misses games here and there. Lou allows Harden to get a little more rest while still keeping up the scoring pace. They traded a guy who was third on the their SF depth chart behind Ariza and Dekker plus a pick that will likely be 26-27 for a guy averaging 18.7 a game off the bench. Lou is also shooting a career high 38.5% from 3 on a career high 5.6 attempts a game this season. Hes been great off the bench, for the Lakers this year. Seems like a no brainer to me for Houston.

It seems good for the Lakers in that they got worse. That's what they are tryin to do. They want to get to at least the 2 spot ahead of Phoenix.

It's funny reading all of the instant reactions from people on the General Board saying the trade is fair or that the Lakers got a steal. 90% of the people commenting probably don't even look at the contract situations or don't understand that the Brewer contract is a negative asset. The real question is whether Magic Johnson is part of that 90%.

I agree they probably could have gotten more. Just depends on what the offers were. Im sure the Wizards was probably Nicholson and a 1st( a higher pick but a much worse contract). Maybe teams werent offering as much as wed expect, especially considering Lou is under a very reasonable contract next season as well.

I mean by this logic they could just release Lou Williams for nothing then? You always want to maximize on your value and I can't imagine Magic couldn't have gotten a better offer if he were more patient. He had another 2 days to figure this out and made the deal 5 hours into his tenure.

Agreed. Their cap situation continues to get worse and worse.

Honestly, for the sixers I would probably ask for their 1st just to take back Brewer. They basically got Williams for free as far as I;m concerned.

I don't think the trade is terrible for LA, even though HOU clearly won. LA needs to tank hard for that 2 spot to maximize the chance they keep their 2017 (and therefore also 2019) 1st. LouWill has been the #1 reason they even have 19 wins so far.

Lou Williams was a pretty hot trade commodity. Only getting a 1st back and having to take on a 2 year salary was pretty weak return.

1st round pick
2nd round pick
expiring contract

^ Should have been any 2 combination of those 3 assets. Maybe even all three.

I will say that if Magic is that quickly willing to get rid of his best player this year for just a late 1st rd pick, I can only imagine how he views Ingram, Russell, Nance, or Randle. Like everyone has said all day, BC get on this.

I agree they probably should have gotten more. My point is simply their goal was not to win that trade but to out-horrible the Suns, Magic, and Kings.

Obviously would make that deal, but not for Fultz. I would do it for Jackson.
