Re: Quick stat snapshot of where the Sixers are after 3 games
I can agree with both sides of the argument.
On one hand, it's not the most logical to overvalue a 6'2" guy who doesn't provide much by way of assists, rebounds, steals and blocks. There's only so much true impact he can have and he'll be a bad asset once he's maxed out.
On the other hand, he's an ELITE shooter and extremely likeable culture setter to have as a key piece in the franchise. Guys like to play with good dudes. Maxey is a good dude.

Durant never should have given the keys to Brooklyn by signing that full max. He should have done a short term like Harden and stayed in control especially knowing Kyrie was on the hot seat and having reservations with the coaching/GM. He could have chosen his destination at this point. Embiid and Harden would have recruited him I guarantee.

Injury risk, thats why he has to sign a long term contract.
Honestly, the mistake was with the Nets. They should have never done the Harden trade.
They would have so much depth right now that they’d have a large margin for error. Dinwiddie, LeVert, Allen and those picks could allow Kyrie and KD to go vacation at the middle of the season and return when playoffs start.

What makes Maxey a good fit with Harden and Embiid is Harden has lost a step with his scoring. While Embiid is suited to play with a combo guard scorer/shooter like Seth and JJ. While both Harden and Embiid are slow that they need someone who can spam transition points for them.
I do think Maxey is more valuable to our team than to others. For instance, I dont think Masai or Presti would value Maxey that high.

Dinwiddie and Levert are non factors. They're full of capable wings even now.
The mistake was including Allen in the trade, especially because they traded Allen only because KD/Kyrie were mad about him starting ahead of Jordan.
That destroyed their defense and forced them to get insurance like Griffin and Aldridge. Admittedly they also had bad luck on Lamarcus retiring mid-season. But their issues started there.
Claxton is gonna be a perennial DPOY in the future but the Nets are too small to play him 35-40 minutes against teams like us, the Bucks, Pelicans or Denver.

I'm less worried about a maximum extension for Maxey because the salary cap will boost again in 2025. The last TV deal renewal created a 35% jump in the cap. That makes a $35M annual salary look more like a $22.75M in today's dollars. Only one year of the extension will be pre-cap jump. This is assuming they don't smooth the cap jump over multiple season, as was the case last time.

On top of this his max is probably gonna be smaller than a lot of other guys because he isn't playing in the all star or gettin all nba votes unless he takes another large jump.
His max also coincides with Tobias getting off the books

Maxey is a fine max contract. 22 years old, almost 23 ppg (made the jump per 36 min), and promising range of FTr which shows his willing to grow in that department.
Conversely, Tobias hasn't reached that level of scorer. Maxey has max level traits despite his size not being exactly elite.

I think a lot of team have made bad “super team” trade in the last 10 years. Vucevic trade for the Bulls, Tobias trade for us, Harden trade for the Nets, Gobert trade for the Wolves, Westbrook trade for everyone, and you could even argue AD trade was bad too.
The speed and style of the game makes depth and lineup versatility wayyy more important than the past which undercuts the rationale for a star trade.

That's interesting. So do you think the idea that a team needs 2-3 legitimate stars to win a ring is less true than it used to be?

Seems like you still need stars as much as you used to but they need to acquired by draft or free agency.

Re: Quick stat snapshot of where the Sixers are after 3 games
I think 2 stars and a supporting cast is the way to go. Lakers had the formula when they won the bubble championship but then screwed it up with the Westbrook trade. It’s definitely ideal tho to have 2 homegrown stars like Boston because then you can use draft capital to build a well-rounded team.
If you’re gonna go with 3 stars, I think they have to be a perfect fit like the Bucks or else the depth disadvantage is too much to overcome. We even saw how hard it was for the Heatles to overcome their bad bench.

Yes and no. Vucevic, Tobias and Gobert are not real stars. Westbrook is declining and never had a good BBIQ, the only "real" stars on this list being Harden and AD. That Nets team was constantly plagued either by injuries or by Kyrie's stupidity, and the "big three" played only 16 games together. And they have taken the Bucks to game 7 in the 2021 playoffs without Kyrie and with not fully healthy Harden. AD and Lebron have won a title, their problems started IMO once they traded for Westbrook...

This guy seems to think Embiid has been limited by Harden at the start and the reason why we lost the early games. Apparently thinks Embiid should be given all the touches and a roster that supports that.

It could be that he was injured/sick after all. I know many refused to believe it on here, but seems like the logical conclusion.

Biid has been a slow starter for years now.... bad feets, having the bubble guts or being a sad boi or not...he tends to be pretty ass after long lay offs as well.

Agreed, i sayed this at the time of the trade.
Rim protection has been a huge issue after that trade, and they had an elite one in Allen.
Also, they could had awesome depth with Levert as a 6th man scoring machine, while trading Dinwiddie and some picks for an elite 3+D wing.
That being sayed, i didn't expect Kyrie to be so disfunctional. You can't have him as your #2 if you want to win. But that's another story.

Seems like that writer has a pretty clear anti-Harden agenda they’re trying to push. We sucked early on because Embiid was out of shape and the team refused to give any effort on defense.
