Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 5
Fultz. D Smith, Horton maybe.... They should get a fresh legged defensive focused guard to pair with Maxey in the 2nd unit. Even if that player doesn't play all the time, there will be times when that would be especially helpful versus fast dynamic back courts. Pressure the ball, push the pace, getting transition. Dribble handoffs from the key where they hand off to the shooters or take it themselves.

I've changed my mind, he needs to be traded.
Damn the whole off season has been a waste. Fire Morey !

SixthStreet wrote:Fultz is the best player of the slim pickings in FA left. Doesn't seem like we need another G but he could play in lineups with 4 shooters effectively, say with Maxey, Martin, George, and Embiid.
He could function as a Melton-ish replacement, with less shooting and more playmaking. His defense has been good and he's been switchable to larger players because of his wingspan.
Maybe Fultz will return and find his shot that TJ hid from him.

I would be all about Fultz returning in a projected role as backup point guard/guard/defensive minded playmaker.

Out of those 3, I'll take THT.
I don't think they need another guard, though.
Give me a big bodied PF. And then either another one or a wing.
Hopefully Cov isn't cooked. Would like to have him back even if it's just one last run.

That's a meatball sub though, not a cheese steak.

I don’t think they went out and prioritized signing Gordon early for no reason. He’s going to be the guy in the role you’re talking about, whether he’s a great defender at this point or not. Maxey, Oubre, Martin, Gordon, Lowry, Council, McCain…there’s only so many mins to go around at PG-SF and we are pretty much at max capacity already. I think the rotation is pretty much set…the last piece will be a backup 4. Most likely Morris.

Former Bethlehem/Allentown resident who now resides in the Smoky Mountains of TN. It's beyond insulting what they consider Philly cheesesteaks down here.

George is capable, but playmaking isn't his strength. I would prefer his ball handling ability to be using one-on-one situations, and of course it's a secondary playmaker.
Lowry is best served in the Batum type offensive role... Same for Gordon. (BTW this team has done a fine job replacing Batums connective passering with Kyle, Martin, Gordon, George).
They could use another actual point guard with some life in his legs and I think the other 2 are better at that role than THT, but whatever... I was even hoping Terry Johnson came back. Not the biggest thing for this team, bit through the regular season and spurts in the playoffs, I could see these guys playing big roles ala Terry Johnson, but more defensively

Damn had no idea the world was with me on that. Tomatoes and jalapeños and nothing else. Used to eat that all the time when it was $2.50 a six inch.

The picks would be worth more than him IMO, unless he learns how to shoot this summer (doubtful, but then we would probably want to keep him).
Considering they're already paying a big three, I don't think they'll be targeting any potential big contract players (e.g. Markkanen).
So you're looking at playoff contributing players. Ideally a PF based on the team on paper right now, but that could change.
Some names to consider DFS, Eason, Kispert, Vanderbilt, Cody Martin, maybe Kuminga just for the end of the year, maybe Portis if Bucks flame out
Yeah you screwed me with my wet dream of Portis, it won't happen but a man can dream. If we can get Crazy Eyes, I would press the button. Now I am partial to my Hogs, but I will say Trevon Brazile will be available after this season.

Hornets cut Reggie Jackson and he signs with the Sixers. Even though the Sixers have 3 roster spots, this probably(maybe) kills the Lonnie Walker hopes.

I like this signing but we now have 4 point guards. The Sixers still need power forward help.

brings some ballhandling/passing, played in all 82 last year and 75 games the year before
either he likes playing with PG or the Sixers were pretty unimpressed by McCain in summer league
