Re: SixerFan1976 Offseason Thread
I am just getting excited with the prospect of Deron Williams. We do have peices here in place. Have any of you seen the Espn insider article about places for deron..
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/ ... n-williams
Three-star fits
It's not hard to craft a scenario in which this would work.
Philadelphia 76ers: The Sixers could exercise their amnesty rights on Elton Brand's contract to very nearly free up enough space to land Williams, though they have a $6.1 million cap hold on Spencer Hawes to consider. If Philadelphia were to pursue this angle, another Williams could come into play. Lou Williams has an early-termination option for the $5.3 million left on his deal. If he exercises that, the Sixers could renounce their rights to him and have plenty of money to sign Deron Williams and still retain Hawes.
With young players such as Hawes, Evan Turner, Lavoy Allen and Nikola Vucevic around, not to mention veterans Thaddeus Young and Andre Iguodala, you're looking at a really good base of talent. The Sixers would have to figure out what to do with Jrue Holiday, but that could be managed.
the only other 3 star teams they suggest are unlikely they are suns, blazers (maybe), and jazz
4 stars are the mavs & 5 stars are the nets...
who knows maybe with new ownership and julius erving and will smith we can pull a rabbit out of a hat...it would be darn exciting to be in the building next year tho when they announce deron williams...

On an another note I've been reading the 76ers articles that have the gm's and coach Collins discussing the team. It looks very much like Jrue Holiday isn't going anywhere and will be the teams pointguard , star and leader. Doug Collins saids we need more size and athleticism on the wings and frontline. Plus we need another scorer. He mentions wanting play a more tradition lineup as well without an undersized two guard leading the team in scoring which means Lou Williams, Hawes , Brand are definitely gone. Turner or Iggy will bring in a scorer on the wing.

Re: SixerFan1976 Offseason Thread
He wanted to go home to Dallas...no wait, he doesn't think that a great place long term. He wants to stay in Brooklyn...no wait, he changed his mind...unless they can get D12. Does anyone know his FA plans? Does even HE know his FA plans? If that's not a head case/diva then please tell me what is. Dude is as non-committal as they come. How can you try to build around a guy that you have no idea when he'll change his mind and decide he doesn't want to play for you? Does anyone here want to go through Melo-drama like in Denver? Or what Orlando is going through with D12? But hey, if that's what you want then it's cool. I'm just not a fan...[/quote]
seriously this is ridiculous...hes a FREE agent anywhere he signs he will be there for atleast 5 years...hes a FREE agent he is allowed to be non committal now..its his career it is his legacy on the line...he wants to win and does not want to be stuck on a team on the rise or a team he has to wait on...hes been in the league for a # of years...he wants to win and play on a very good team. deron's situation is completely different than howards IMO...
i mean would you want to stay in brooklyn especially if they do not get dwight howard...
he doesnt have to know his free agent plans...#1 hes not a free agent now as hes still technically still under contract with the nets...it would disrespectful for him to just come out and say i dont to be here now at this point #2 he has a right to wait and see what the nets do
How can you try to build around a guy that you have no idea when he'll change his mind and decide he doesn't want to play for you?
to touch on that last part again..he didnt ask to be traded to the nets...utah did that pre-eemptively on their part...he never demanded a trade and said he didnt want to play for utah..he also hasnt said he doesnt want to play for the nets..he knows they suck now and doesnt want to commit his next 5 years to that team if they will remain a mediocre team

I guess you and I have different definitions of the word "class". You don't see Tim Duncan saying he's not resigning unless the Spurs can get Howard, do you? I never was a fan od DWill...and never will be. We have an emerging young PG in Jrue. Why not let him continue to develop?
Wow, only Sixers fans on this forum would pass up a bonafide superstar in order to hold onto a player that will never, ever reach that plateau.

Sure, and I bet there are some Knick fans that wished they never traded for Carmello. Sometimes that bonafide superstar isn't all that you wished for.

I like Hinrich the most from that list. Would Miller even consider cming back here? I tought we was a west coast guy.

Hinrich should be the guy we get 6'4, excellent defender and shooter. Can play both point and off guard. Wait a sec... This sounds like Jrue Holiday. A Doug Collins type of player.

Melo and Deron Williams are totally different players and personalities.

I find it cute that the national media thinks we want to retain Hawes.
Hinrich would be a fantastic addition.

Most people don't know much outside of their own team but this is getting silly. Dwight Howard is clearly a diva but he is also a top 4 player in the NBA when healthy. Has no one ever had a job that they hated? maybe he feels like that about Orlando and can actually do something about it. The Deron stuff is crazy.
If you are wary of either player for any reason beyond health (shouldn't be), fit (shouldn't be), or gutting the team (valid consideration) then you're doing it wrong.

Seriously, anyone who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to add Dwight + Deron is just being ridiculous.

I can't believe people are bashing adding Deron Williams and Dwight Howard to continue to watch Evan Turner and Thad Young develop, or make additions to our core like Kris Humphries and Carl Landry.

"excellent defender and shooter" is more describing the '06 Kirk Hinrich not the '13 Kirk Hinrich

Re: SixerFan1976 Offseason Thread
Now we are going to eliminate all guys with a little bit of diva in them? Seriously? It's the freaking NBA...it comes with the territory most of these guys are divas.
Kobe, L. James, Wade, Howard, C. Paul, C. Anthony, A. Stoudamire, Garnett, Bynum, Cousins, Jennings...and if people say so Deron (though I don't agree at all). That's just the start of the list. Usually being a star means being a diva....just accept it. We know all well after having AI here for so long.
The Duncan/Durants/Love's are in the minority imo

Sixers fan better be on their hands and knees praying the nets do not win the lotto or get into the top 3 to keep their pick bc if the nets dont, then reports are deron williams will leave. It is also rumored he isnt that in love with dallas because of how old the roster is. This opens the door for the sixers to jump in. If the nets get a top 3 pick, then they will likely be able to trade for dwight (top 3 pick and brook is better then what we can offer) and keep dwill

Re: SixerFan1976 Offseason Thread
I think Howard is overrated, and I hate the guy, but I'd still take him here because it would make the team better and give them their best center in multiple decades.
I'd have trouble rooting for the guy though, but to deny that he would make the team better would be naive. That said, I'm not going to trade the entire team away for him either, but I would give up a lot, so long as there are some players left.
Adding a couple stars via totally gutting your team and then filling in the pieces with a bunch of aging vets with MLE and vet minimum deals that want to "hop on the bandwagon" doesn't seem to work much in the NBA. You need core pieces there as well.

Re: SixerFan1976 Offseason Thread
Most "stars" are ****.
Outside of Rose the robot and maybe Durant, most stars are dicks.
Kinda comes with the territory.
If one of those dudes are interesting in coming here you don't turn them away because they want to decide their own future.
Deron is a free agent, anyway. If Dwight is the only way he'd stay in Brooklyn, then he's at least being honest. Dwight handled his **** like a bitch, tho.
But Deron? Handled his like G. Hasn't really wavered much since most of the talk of going to Dallas was just rumors) and basically said from jump that he's hitting the market. He gave Ole Billy notcie of what would keep him there or he's outta there.
Not seeing the issue there. Dwight doesn't know WTF he wants so he deserves the bashing. Next week he probably will say he wants to be Magic fo lyfe...again.
BUT I doubt Deron comes here. So lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Downside to getting Dwight would be having to face either SA or OKC in finals.
After watching those two teams pull the hack-a-shaq strategy, we would be dead. Could you imagine that with Howard and Iguodala on the floor.
