By trading for Paul that means we are trying to win a championship within the next 3 years. That's just not going to happen. We need to build for the future and look at winning a championship 4 or 5 years down the line. You don't NEED a great point guard to win a championship. But you do need a great shooting guard and Turner will be that guy most likely. Also Jrue is much more valuable to us than he is to other teams.

What's wrong with trying to win a ring within the next 3 years? Unless you're saying we'd have a 3-year window, which I would completely disagree with.

As much as I'd love to have Chris Paul on my team, I think it's impossible because we have no major salaries to match his contract excluding Brand and Iguodala. And since we would obviously be in win-now mode if we got Paul, trading either one of those guys for him would be pointless. Too bad we got rid of Dalembert last week because we could have thrown him, #2 pick, Jrue, and possibly either one of Lou or Green to make the salaries work.

Salaries work with Kapono/Green/Smith or Kapono/Williams as the filler.

And what about your frontcourt?

And like Thaddeusyoungin said, I don't expect Ray to sign with us with just the MLE. Because that team is going nowhere after the 2nd round.

He'd be in a much better position resigning with the Celtics.

I'd jump all over that. Can't see it happening though as Monta and Iguodala have nearly the same value. If by some miracle Cousins fell to 6 I'd include any of Speights, Young, or a future first as well to get it done.

I don't think its all that far off. I don't think Monta brings much to the game. Sure he's a scorer, but in GS I think his numbers/touches are waaay inflated. Also he doesn't seem to be a locker room 'gem' by any stretch either.

All rumors are saying GS is looking to build totally around Curry. Iggy would be the perfect SG/SF to put beside him.

If a deal like this was done, i would want to flip Monta immediately for any value possible, before he even put on our uni.

On the idea of Chris Paul it sounds great but i'd rather keep what we have and try and keep building.
As far as NBA point guards go in my book it's Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and then Steve Nash so it would be great to have a player like him on our team but I honestly don't think that we would win a championship even with that roster. I think we would be a second round playoff team and thats it.
I'm anticipating seeing our backcourt of Holiday/Turner and no trade right now in the NBA is going to want me to deviate from that. I'm somebody that really really wanted us to get a shot at Evan Turner for the last two years and for some reason this pick fell right into our laps. Call it a blessing from the NBA gods but they are shining on us right now and to trade this pick for anything right now would be a total waste of what could have been in my opinion. I really think Turner is going to be a great player and I also don't we defied the odds, lucked out and landed the second overall pick just to draft a bust of a player.
I'm sticking with Turner all the way....No trades I do hope we get another draft pick tonight but i'm fine with us just escaping with Evan Turner.

there are rumors the Warriors might have a fire sale. here are some trades that could work if that was happening.

Trade 1
Sixers - Ellis, Garcia, #5
Warriors - Iggy, Speights, Green, Philly protected 1st
Kings - Biedrins

I think Biedrins could be taken out and the trade changed a little if need be or another team for Ellis could be worked out.

Trade #2
Sixers - Ellis, Radmanovic, and #6
Warriors - Iggy, Speights, Green/Kapono

Trade #3
Sixers - Ford, Foster, #10, Radmanovic, #6
Warriors - Iggy, Speights, Green/Kapono, Philly protected 1st
Pacers - Ellis

Could use #6 and filler for #5.

I'd do any of those as long as they happened on draft night, and we immediately flipped Ellis for something else (kinda like 3, but maybe to Mem for like Thabeet/12/filler) I don't think we would need to do Speights and 1. I think one or the other would work. So if we keep Speights, and then lower the protection, so lotto/7/1 or something like that, or keep the pick and give Speights.

youngcrev wrote:With some buzz around Chris Paul potentially being moved... What about a deal centered around the #2 pick and Jrue Holiday (to a 3rd team)?

Then try to entice Ray Allen with an MLE deal.

Chris Paul
Ray Allen
Andre Iguodala
Elton Brand
Spencer Hawes

If Hawes shows that he is stronger and an average defender, I would 100% do this deal. That team would probably be a top 4 team in the east and probably a contender. If Dre Miller worked, Paul would take this team ahead.

No stop gaps, and they aren't good enough to win a title and that's what its all about. Draft turner and go young so we can builds something that will last.

I won't lie to you that the odds of that happening is not on our favor. But this got me into a lot of thinking.

This years Top FAs..

(non PF):

-LeBron
-Wade
-Joe Johnson
-Gay

PF position:

-Bosh
-Amare
-Boozer

Looking at the non FA pool, I can't see LeBron and Wade signing with the Nets. They'd be in a much better position with the Bulls (ready to compete) and Knicks (larger market than the Nets). Joe Johnson is a guy that doesn't fit the Net's age group and I can't see any chance that they would like to sign him on a long term contract. Rudy Gay is the top non-PF FA who has the best chance of landing with the Nets. But I doubt that the Grizzlies wouldn't match their offer.

Look at the top PF FAs, these are the guys who I can see signing with the Nets. Boozer has his history and Milsap is ready to replace him anytime soon. Amare was almost traded for Iggy last season. Bosh is a guy who is most likely to not return to his team and would want to have his own team. David Lee is another guy who would be the surest consolation prize to any team that falls out in the Wade-LeBron-Bosh sweepstakes.

It's most likely that the Nets, with their money, is going to end up with a top PF FA. And with the top non-PF FAs signing with other teams, it would leave a big hole at the Nets' SF position. This shall also make Derrick Favors expendable. Remember, it is said that Favors was pick to be an asset to future trades. And the team was not really high on Favors, for they almost selected Wes Johnson over Favors.

I know this is far fetch and would sound really crazy to other people. But if the Nets acquired a Bosh or a Boozer and then falls out on the Lebron-Wade-Gay sweepstakes, this might lead them to consider an:

Iguodala + Lou Williams + Future 1st for Favors + Dooling trade.

Why for the Nets? They signed Avery Johnson as their headcoach and not some young headcoach. Looking at their roster and their choice of headcoach, they are ready to compete as soon as they can covet a max type player (Bosh, Amare or Boozer) and a player who can fill the hole at the SF position with Iguodala. I know that Iguodala is not the sexiest choice to trade for Favors. But as raw as Favors is, both guys' have the same odds of making the all-star team.

Nets' Line-up:
Devin Harris/Lou Williams
Courtney Lee/FA
Andre Iguodala/Terrence Williams
Chris Bosh/Yi Jian Lian
Brook Lopez/Josh Boone

Why for the 76ers? Favors provides 76ers a player who can anchor the team's defense and rebounding in the near future. And as young as Jrue-Turner, Thad and Hawes I think we're in a pretty good shape in the future.

76ers Line-up:
Jrue Holiday/Willie Green or FA
Evan Turner/Jodie Meeks
Thaddeus Young/Nocioni
Elton Brand/Marreese Speights
Spencer Hawes/Derrick Favors

At the end of the day, it's just two teams filling each others' needs.

76ciology, I would do that trade in a second.

What does everyone think of this one? I've heard Perkins is on the block, but I'm not sure if it's true.

Sixers Trade: Elton Brand, Lou Williams, Thad Young FOR Kendrick Perkins, Rashard Lewis

Magic Trade: Rashard Lewis, Brandon Bass FOR Elton Brand, Lou Williams

Celtics Trade: Kendrick Perkins FOR Thaddeus Young, Brandon Bass

I think the Celtics might have to sign&trade a vet min player to make it work financially.

EDIT: I actually think the Sixers might have to add a 1st for the Celts to be interested. Would anyone here still do it? How much protection would be on it?

Holiday / (how much would Sergio Rodriguez cost?)
Turner / Meeks
Iguodala / Nocioni
Speights / Lewis
Perkins / Hawes

I think we'd have to seriously consider that Rashard deal.

I have changed my mind on trading for Andrew Bynum, since Bynum is having surgery in July.

Just a thought on completing / balancing the team in one 3 way trade...

Indiana sends: Rush, Foster, Ford
Indiana gets: Lou, Smith, Kapono

Why? Get their PG without giving up a main piece. Smith being able to spread the floor could open them up to trade Murphy for future assets. Get rid of their resident headache in Ford.

GSW sends: Biedrins
GSW gets: Foster, Green

Get expiring deals for Biedrins to help out with the sale while bringing in a great rebounder to fill the center position for a year.

Philly sends: Lou, Smith, Green, Kapono
Philly gets: Biedrins, Rush, Ford

Fill out the depth chart without giving up a major piece.

Jrue / Ford / Meeks
Turner / Rush / Meeks
Iguodala / Young / Nocioni
Brand / Speights / Nocioni
Hawes / Biedrins

Would bring Biedrins off the bench with Speights since they pair so well (great rebounder / defensive player with black hole scorer). A little bit of a risk seeing if Biedrins bounces back to form, but he's still young and his contract stays at 9m for the duration so it's not too bad.

Only worry I have is that this adds a little over 1 million to our payroll, so it would depend on where the tax threshold falls.

We should just rebuild. No big contracts. We don't have to be the anti-Thunder.
