Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
I've been pretty worried since the news (finally) came out about the extent of his knee. This is not helping a bit. Nobody reasonable should be totally shocked if he doesn't play a game this year.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Some questions I think BC needs to address:
- Did he re-injure himself this summer?
- Following his surgery, BC said the tear was much smaller than expected and they were optimistic about him making a full recovery this summer. Why such a long length of recovery for such a routine injury?

- Shouldn't the medical team's strategy be called into question at this juncture? They've failed to prevent injuries (pretty sure the whole roster tore their Meniscus within the last two seasons), recovery times have been abnormally long (Simmons, Okafor, Embiid), and the cautious approach we've taken with Embiid has produced zero results to support their vision for his long term health.

They did, they say no. Not that their word means much.

Anybody still not worried yet after reading this quote below from Colangelo?
"The question is how much, how little, if at all" <---- Colangelo basically saying "Oh don't worry he will definitely be there for the opening game!! even if he is in a suit". At this stage you just gotta laugh.

The frustrating thing is the lack of conviction. Bryan doesn’t handle this stuff very well. For all of his supposed personal skills he isn’t a very good communicator.
He talks, but he equivocates.
I don’t know what to think. I want to know if there is ANY medical reason to think that that he isn’t 100% healthy. Any swelling or pain in the knee? Things like that. If he has no symptoms, and is physically fine in all tests, then there is nothing to worry about.
If that is the case then he did a crappy job of communicating today. If it isn’t the case then he is being dishonest.

1. They said he didn't experience any setbacks.
2. They're opting for a super conservative rehab, with the goal for him to have a long and healthy career. It's not just about healing his knee, it's about his entire body being ready for a NBA season.
3. I think they did. They hired dr. Medina from FC Barcelona and one of the reasons the answer is this vague is Medina needs to process all the data and come up with a detailed plan for Embiid. Such things don't happen overnight.
Now the crucial question if we can believe anything BC says, history indicates we can't, so all these answers might not matter.

My biggest issue 2 weeks ago and still a bigger issue today is that the only footage we have seen in over 2 months is of Joel Embiid in a weight room and nothing of him with a ball in his hand in a gym.
Not playing 5 on 5 if one thing... but would be nice to even see him on a court shooting free throws or jumpers. Almost like he has an injury and is in a weightroom rehabbing to keep weight off his leg. That's what makes me suspicious that it is more than BC is letting on.

We did see those things early in the summer. I think the reason for your concern is that most of the Sixers guys are actually in their own practice facility at the moment. The videos you're referring to are often from skill coaches like Drew Hanlen for promotional reasons, the Sixers coaches don't bother recording shots and showing them. I haven't seen Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons, Richaun Holmes, Nik Stauskas, JJ, TJ, etc. getting shots up either.
We'll see next week when training camp begins and hopefully some media guys will have access to shootarounds. I actually believe BC in this case and think they're being super conservative and waiting for Medina to come up with a conditioning program for Embiid.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
The management of this team is so **** frustrating. Everything is vague and veiled in shadows with every player that gets an injury, its all just to sell tickets. At this point i dont think any of us will be surprised if they drop a bomb on us one day before the season starts. Scott O Neil needs to go, he might be a bigger snake than daddy colangelo.
The simplest answer is usually the right one, you can all say they are being careful and blah blah blah but you all know that deep down you are worried as F.

They really have to contort themselves to justify Embiid to be ranked in the 30's because they can't bring themselves to rank him based purely on his basketball skills.
They factor in his health, which should have no bearing on who the best players are. The list isn't supposed to be ranked by trade value. It is supposed to be who the best players in the league are.
If Embiid stays healthy this year he will be in the top 5-7 next year, but even today he should be in the 10-15 range at least.
I think that today it is legit to still rank people like KAT, Cousins and Davis ahead of him, along with the Durants, Currys, Lebrons, etc...but so many of the players that they rank ahead of him are nowhere close to him.

I totally get why they ranked Embiid where they did. That's why I asked where would everyone rank Embiid for one game because it takes out the health issue. But it doesn't matter how dominant someone is if they can't stay on the court. But like I said before I'd only take LeBron KD Steph and Kawhi over Embiid without thinking. After them it would be hard for me to justify putting anyone else over him. I could make a case for taking Embiid over any other player in the NBA for one game.
I'd take Giannis over Embiid, easy.

one easy rule: ignore implausible persons like BC. (i know, its pretty hard to do, cause he is our fckn GM )
 )
i trust embiid, and his post last week doesnt indicate a setback at all. i think all that smoke is about his contract extension. once he got it, they will say, oh we just waited for the new doctor to give his okay..

For one healthy game? That's up to you, but excuse Sixers' fans for disagreeing as we already saw Embiid lead us to victory against Giannis when he was playing well himself.

These answers just beg more questions though. He last played a game 9 months ago, they shut him down 8 months ago, he had surgery 6 months ago. How the heck does even a "super conservative rehab" of a partially torn meniscus take that long?
Same thing with Medina. Why did they wait until 2 weeks before camp to bring someone in?
The issue is less with them being conservative (which is fine) and more if they are hiding something (Which wouldn't be the first time). Could be a setback, could be a contract thing, who knows.
It just seems like Colangelo is doing his thing where he gets asked a question and he just throws some word vomit back at the reporter until time runs out.

I’m not too worried. I won’t get worried unless he can’t play. Let’s see what they say on Monday at the press conference because I’m sure there will be more questions. Let’s see if Embiid practices on the court with other players next week.
