There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

That's the endgoal, in my eyes. Bring his passing along and gradually add the jumper range and he's Lou Williams with a stronger build.

He can navigate in traffic and get to the rim. The problem is can he finish against NBA caliber goalies? He doesnt have freakish length or athleticism. He has a very promising floater though.

He appears to have freakish coordination and dexterity. And in my eyes, that way more important than length and athleticism.

Maybe in build. Gordon was by far the better shooter.

I see Doc playing Maxey a lot during the preseason.
As a way to rest our starters. And trying to prepare him for regular season and maybe to showcase him.

He does resemble him in build and movement a little bit but definitely not the same game. Gordon was mostly about two dribbles to get his shot off, and he shot mostly perimeter jumpers plus some floaters if he got run off the 3 pt line. Maxeys game involves handling the ball more and hunting shots in the lane. Be amazing if Maxey somehow developed the jumper that Gordon had.

I'm actually a fan of comparisons. I think they help give clarity on what a player can potentially become. The Ben Gordon one is way way off in my opinion. I think Maxey a lot more athletic, while Gordon was/is, and will always be the better shooter. Without reading any scouting reports and just looking at simply his game, Maxey reminds me the most of Lou. That's just me in terms of what I see. I also see a lot of the same attributes that Markelle Fultz has. Deceptive quickness, shifty, crafty, a good first step.
He seems like a good lead guard for the reserves and someone that can get to the basket and take defenders off the dribble. Maxey first and foremost will be a scorer in this league. He's going to be extremely valuable for a team that is in desperate need for an isolation type of player that can win off the dribble. I don't expect him to play a ton of minutes this year, but if he does, it's because he's better than expected. We're also desperate for a player that can do those things.

Jump shot away from stardom. Everything else already there.
Assuming no weird Fultz or Simmons type situation, league Fed.

Does this mean that he plays right away? I for one did not see Mitchell being as good as he's become. Can the same happen with Maxey? It'd be a dream come true.

No one did.
I think he either takes over the starting job from Curry by mid season or becomes the 6th man whilst having numbers similar to Mitchell’s second year at Louisville.
Doc coached up SGA and he’ll do the same with Maxey.

I think there's major issues with the Mitchell comparison, both in skillset and in physical profile/measurements.
Firstly, Mitchell was a great defender and very willing three point shooter as a prospect. Maxey is neither of those things right now.
Secondly, Mitchell has elite athleticism and a freaky +9 wingspan. Maxey is just a solid athlete with just a +5 wingspan.
Finally, Mitchell had an incredible opportunity. Gordon Hayward had just left and there was a huge scoring burden void that someone needed to fill. Maxey is coming into a situation with a ton of established mouths to feed.
Maxey does not have the all-around game of Donovan Mitchell.
Maxey does not have the freaky athletic profile and measurements of Donovan Mitchell.
Maxey will not have the green light to burst on the scene that Donovan Mitchell had.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
I think it's just wishful thinking. Even ignoring skill and just observing them as athletes, Mitchell is probably in the top 1% for his size in terms of burst, vertical and wingspan. He's still the next Donovan Mitchell though.

I dont see where maxey is anywhere near as explosive as Mitchell .

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Maxey was better as a freshman in every category and is a legit inch or 2 taller.
He weighs slightly less and less explosive but he has the talent so it depends on how hard he works and from what we’re all hearing he’s been busting his butt off.
Yes it’s a little wishful thinking but this team is looking for a combo guard of the future and maxey will have a chance to claim that spot.

They are actually the same height unless maxey grew.
