Does this mean that he plays right away? I for one did not see Mitchell being as good as he's become. Can the same happen with Maxey? It'd be a dream come true.

I dont see where maxey is anywhere near as explosive as Mitchell .

Neither do I, I maintain a firm stance that at best he's Lou Williams which is pretty damn good.

Fair enough, I wouldn’t mind it at all if he became a prime Lou Will with a better 3pt shot and defense.

Most wouldn't. Probably not a fair expectation.

Not really an expectation, more of a comparison in terms of game/style of play. Lou might be the best sixth man ever to play. I don't think anyone is saying Maxey will accomplish what Lou has. I'm just saying that if he's comparable to another NBA player, for me, it's Lou.

He looks like a guy who’s going to run PnR a lot. Specially with Doc.

His upside should range somewhere between Dinwiddie or Mitchell. A heavy PnR guy who can give you 16-20ppg.

Since he can shoot, defenders can’t go under the screen. Then Maxey has the built to shield off his defenders. He also seems natural in navigating in traffic. He also has a really nice floater.

The more I think of it, he can be one of the best guards in running PnR in terms of volume with above average to good points per possession.

Folks have their opinions on what he could be and that's fine. My opinion is he has the potentional to be a big star in this league and that's all we should be hoping for...period.

I’m excited to see if that shot improved markedly since his last game at UK. I’m not expecting much improvement on defense since there’s been little time to get comfortable with playing in the system.

I'm really confused on this narrative that he isn't a good defender. He can only guard 2 positions and absolutely ate it on more screens than I liked but he was a very good man defender. There was no game that I saw where he looked like a sieve or didn't give solid effort. Everyone needs to adjust to NBA speed but his defense isn't the question that his shot obviously is.

My comp for Maxey is Eric Gordon.

My comp for Maxey is Eric Gordon.

I don't hate this. Pre-injury, IU, Gordon was super streaky from the perimeter much like Maxey. The comp is really sound. However, I don't think Maxey will be the first option worthy player preinjury Gordon was and I don't expect Maxey to be the absolute sniper Gordon has been at times. I do expect Maxey to be a slightly above average shooter though. Similarly, I do not expect Maxey to be the sieve defensively Gordon usually is.

Matisse too. There was also a quote from Mike Scott saying he was the MVP today.

Yup, that's what the void of deflection stats he had at Kentucky indicates. I'm glad he's giving a ton of effort and satisfying people in practice, though.

Wait, you’re basing his defense solely off deflection stats?

The whisper out of camp is Maxey has left peoples jaws on the floor at times!!..that's how impressive he's been. And now the praise is starting to leak out. Hopefully the kid continues on this positive trend...because imo he's gonna be a star.

Maybe as a defender he’s more of Avery Bradley. Good 1v1 but bad on deflections.
