Makes sense, we still don't have a traditional point guard.

Haha, that's how I read it too.

Well, Doc wants to see if Milssap is any good. The quicker, the better.

I want Paul Reed to succeed, but if Millsap is any good, he can help us for 7-8 minutes a game.

Yawn. Call CNN, they should be interested.

I'd kind of love for Doc to give Reed some run as a tall defensive, energy wing, just to throw some athleticism and stocks and mud flinging, lob catching energy in the wing rotation, at least try it a bit with Danny out.

A 5 man unit I want Doc to explore is having Niang and Reed at 3&4s, where Reed would be the only non shooter on the floor. And if Reed can shoot, we possibly can replace Niang with Thybulle.

We should let this guy atleast play more. I even want him to start. He should be better on offense or defense compared to Tobi or Thybulle.

Looking at our roster and possibly opponents in the playoffs, we should atleast be able to run a switch heavy defense with our 4-5 being more confident to step up on screens to defend shooters and have either 4 or our 5 be able to protect the rim.

Sometimes or maybe most times, we can get away with having 3-4 of Thybulle and Tobi.

But there are really times where we should explore having Reed at the 4 and maybe even let Biid play 4 with Bassey or DAJ at the 5.

I dont know if Doc is just stubborn on his rotations or we’re just running “vanilla” rotations. But in the Nets game, we probably should have played Reed more than Thybulle. The defensive scheme we run was just suicide because we dont have the personnel to run it, unless the goal was to trap KD and let Thybulle intercept his kickout passes which never happened

Long term, I think it’s best for Embiid to slide to the 4 with a big who can compliment him. Just as what Tyson Chandler was to Dirk or find two types of bigs that can play with Duncan with Splitter or Diaw. And these two bigs can be Reed and Bassey.

i agree, its crazy, but id throw him into the starting line up.
either:
Harden-Maxey-Tobias-Reed-Embiid
or
Harden-Maxeey-Thybulle-Reed-Embiid

Need energy and rebounding. I think that second line up could be a ton of fun with the energy to run the floor

also good perspective on how dirk always had a good big nexxt to him. I hope reed/bassy could be that.

We all love Reed. I’m sure Morey does too. But we have to be realists, Doc would not let this guy play unless an injury or COVID happens to all of the big man.

Good news: Morey could build the roster in a way that Doc have no choice but to play Reed (if Doc is still here by the start of training camp).

Took me to a scene from Moneyball when Bean traded multiple options to force the coach to play his guy at first.

Not playing Paul Reed and/or Bassey and generally being risk averse is gonna get Doc fired. Even worse than that, it will lead to a another frustrating playoff run for us fans to watch. We might legit lose in the second round again.

I honestly hope that an early playoff exit would cost Rivers his job, but I just don't see it happening. It'll be about having to 'adjust' to Harden arriving so late or myriad other excuses that might arise over the next few months, but he'll be back next year.

The biggest what-if of this season will be if the lack of depth bites us on the ass come playoff time, how it might have been different had he given the young guys some run with Shake and Kork clearly struggling and the lack of rebounding. We're going to enter the playoffs with zero room for error - if a key rotation guy goes down, he has left nowhere to turn.

We have a really potent team on offense, I think possibly ATG level if everything gels together. This bench scoring issue is just for casual fan optics, we have too much scorers on our staring line-up that this can be addressed by having better rotations.

Im not gonna be scared of Jordan Clarkson’s scoring when I’ll always have Harden or Embiid paired with Maxey or Tobias. It’s really a not a big issue.

My issue is inferior teams can beat us with transition offense and extra possessions. While against the teams, on our level, like the Bucks or Nets. We need transition offense and extra possessions to help us get separation if we can’t beat teams on offense.

And with our current roster, the guy most likely who can address this is playing more Paul Reed.

There's just no minutes available. Harris/Niang play all the PF minutes. Reed is like 210 pounds so we're not going to play him over the backup C.

Another issue I saw was during the Nuggets game. Where having Embiid in foul trouble, which udefensive anchors are prone of, can mess up the entire rotation and it’s really hard to play good defense down the stretch when we rely a lot on him on defense.
