Silver is a slimy piece of garbage, yes, but the idea is a clear ripoff of anyone who actually still pays the ridiculous ticket prices to go to these games. You get less basketball, but do you think ticket prices are going to drop a single penny?

With regard to watching on TV, I agree with you. But there's a fundamental principle here that's being violated - everyone knows that shortening the season by a dozen games or so is the best solution, and this is Silver's way of side stepping that because of the obvious reason that owners would never give up those gates or any network money. And cloaking it in the FIBA and CBB thing is a nice way of legitimizing the move.

Listen, I haven't been to a Sixers game since the Spectrum, so personally it doesn't affect me at all. If season ticket customers and people paying to go to games think it's fine, then whatever, but at what point does the public send a signal to these whores that enough is enough?

Feels like an overreaction to me. Not saying it's not a valid criticism, I just wouldn't feel ripped off by a shorter game. Both in terms the experience and the value of my purchase (it's not like you wouldn't know the game was shorter than before when buying it).

I guess I could see a scenario of someone not knowing about the rule changes or a season ticket holder re-upping being annoyed. But I also don't care about either those someones.

...also, wtf (about that last sentence). Chill out, Luigi

Oh, I'm chill, and I honestly don't really care. But for the sake of the discussion, you don't see the idea that ticket buyers are being ripped off while Silver gets to eat his cake and have it?

The networks win, as they'll have the same amount of commercials in less time. The owners win, as they keep their gates. But fans going to games will be paying the same prices for less basketball.

Like I said, if they don't care then the hell with it. Just keep feeding the beast.

I just don't see it that way. Just like I wouldn't see how extending the game to 15 minutes quarters would be a value add to fans. If anything, having the games being a little shorter would add to my experience. Figure out how to expedite those review stoppages while we're at it so I can get to bed earlier.

Hell, I'm up for both changes. Shorten the games AND play less of them. Higher quality games with healthier players is better for fans.

You seem to really hate the NBA. I don’t know why you continue to put yourself through it, just let it go. Get in to something else lol.

What does that have to do with the discussion? Just move on instead of worrying about my feelings.

As a TV viewer, I don't disagree. And if fans paying to go to games actually think it's a good idea to spend the same amount for less product, more power.

Just a look at some of the other possibilities we had this summer:

Brandon Ingram: has played 18 games, currently injured and on the block

Dejounte Murray: Achilles tear

Klay Thompson: averaging 13.7 PPG, could end up traded

KCP: averaging 9 PPG

DeRozan: basically putting up his normal numbers.

Jimmy Butler: crazy as ever

It'll be hilarious if the Heat trade Butler to the purgatory that is the Pelicans.

This forum is so cooked nobody even rushing to post about the biggest trade in years.

I’m numb to it by now. LeBron still playing at a high level but he’s almost done. Lakers are gifted their next star without giving up anything substantial. Yes, giving up AD is not substantial when you’re acquiring the package they did.

It’s just funny this league’s reputation is in shambles and they shamelessly let these trades go down.

Interested to hear everyone’s thoughts.

People are commenting in the Trade Deadline thread.

My very first thought was what did Silver offer the Mavs to make a ridiculous move like that, which is precisely what the Lakers needed with LeKing suddenly not infatuated with Davis any more.

They could have set themselves up for the next decade with a pick package, or certainly could have gotten a younger star (or stars) back, but instead they have placed a short window on being a contender, and that's if Davis even stays healthy.

That said, the Lakers aren't winning a title in the short term as they will be dreadful defensively, and hopefully James will be gone before they build a serious contender around Luka.

Since Silver intervened and put the kibosh on markedly improving our city, can he gift wrap us SGA?

I’d also like to apologize to Amen Thompson—he’s starting to look like a wing version of Giannis.

How much does he cost?

If you are the Lakers, Gabe Vincent and two second rounders.
