Based on the games you've seen recently, why is Cameron Johnson playing so poorly lately (minutes down, terrible TS%)?
Whenever I see him play, I see a 6'8'' forward with a fantastic shooting stroke with high volume and percentages, while shooting off screens. What differentiates him to a McDermott type player is that he combines it with decent dribbling skills, decision making when he needs to attack closeouts and acceptable defense.
His uptick in AST% while maintaining low TOV% indicates that there's more upside to him than what he's currently showing. I think he's a fantastic buy low candidate since the Nets are souring on him.
The contract seems bloated, but it's a declining contract. Meaning we would have him in his prime for a perfectly fine 20-25 m/year, roughly 15% of the cap space.
Because he’s just a 3&D player but he’s trying to do too much
What exactly do you mean with trying too much? His usage rate is roughly the same and his assist rate is higher than ever, while maintaining a very low TO% of 6.7%. The only indicator is that his assisted 2FG percentage has gone down.
I honestly think he's just suffering from a roster with Mikal Bridges as the main initiator and Dinwiddie and Cam Thomas as guards (poor playmakers, but decent shot makers).
He’s not a 20% usage player. He’s a 15-17% usage player like how he played with suns. When he starts they struggle on offense because they need a shot creator (many is asking for Cam Thomas to start even JV is being bombarded by questions about CT starting on every post game interviews)
Cam Johnson just a natural opportunistic scorer that thrives on light defense, spot ups and attacking close outs like a 3&D player with a little more talent.
They’re much better with Cam Thomas starting. Just read what nets fans are saying in social media and in the Nets board.
