I'm only trading Okafor for a top player in the NBA. There's no way I'm trading him for another prospect.

We've only had 44 people vote in the poll. The Process is costing us Posters...
“This may be one of the best jobs in basketball right now,” Colangelo said at a press conference introducing him as the new GM of the 76ers after Sam Hinkie resigned.

It's pretty ridiculous. Noel is a piece, nothing more. You trade Okafor to keep Noel and you continue to look like the clown org. that most of the league believes you to be. It would be pretty typical that they do trade Okafor, keep Noel, Biid gets hurt again, and you get left with the worse of the 3 BY FAR. I have faith that once Colangelo takes complete control, we won't hear this nonsense again.

Okafor's defense keeps me uncertain that he's the best of the group...great potential offensively, but needs to show more interest on the defensive end.

Yeah, I like Okafor but the team is horrible defensively with him on the court. I don't think they will ever contend with him as the starting center. Hope I'm wrong but I doubt it.

As bad as I wanted to see it, I did not see Okafor as a blue chipper this year. Super talented on offense. Very rare talent for a big.

I just don't see the nuances of winning basketball.

Okafor hasn't been great on defense this year by any stretch, but criticism of him on that end has been exaggerated and unfair. We are horrible defensively because our guards play absolutely terrible on perimeter defense. There has virtually ben a layup line to the rim every night for a opponents and it makes all of our bigs appear worse then they actually are.

This is why they're called rookies. We have to give the 20 year old kid more than a season to develop. If this were his 3rd year and we still saw no visible improvement in certain areas, I could understand the calls to have him traded. Giving up on him this early is short-sided.

Agreed ^ you can't put the defensive issues all on Okafor. He does his job as an individual defensive player. He needs to improve on rotations, PnR defense, switching, and help defense....All teachable, all achievable, and his struggles should be understandable considering he was just a rookie and Noel...who many consider elite at defense still struggles at. It takes time to learn the NBA game. Posters on here expecting him to be a master finished product fifty games into his career are asking way too much way too fast. It's also...totally not his fault that our starting backcourt is two guys barely six feet tall that are terrible defensive players. Our bench with Stauskus and Hollis (both willing defenders but not great) doesn't get any better. Covington was a good defender until he found job security, and the others Marshall, Pressey, Weems, etc are all terrible. Not a single solid defensive bulldog in the bunch besides TJ. Nope...can't blame that on Jah...but people who don't know team basketball and only look at spreadsheet stats continue to do so.

I get that he is 20. But he has no clue how to play winning basketball. He is a super talented post scorer. That's all he is right now.

Leaving him about 90% left to learn at 20 years old. He's very raw as an overall player.

Supreme talent does win at every level until they enter the big time. I really hope Okafor is a beast of a 2 way center and proves me wrong though.

Just real quick cuz i already commented.

No, just because you "won" earlier does not mean you will be a winner.

Pfffff. My goodness. Just because he had the misfortune of being on a historically bad team doesn't mean he's not a winner. That scoring talent is a winning attribute that any of the teams in the league would love to have. It's a joke that we are even talking about his propensity for winning since he's won at every other level. Our garbage record is not Okafor's fault.

The counter argument to blaming the perimeter defense is that in the 600 minutes with Noel at the 5 and Grant at the 4 the Sixers defensive rating is 102.6. That would be third best in the NBA, behind only San Antonio and Atlanta. Or do the perimeter players only play defense when Okafor is on the bench?

No it wouldn't, a 102.6 DRTG would rank 12th in the NBA.

In 696 possessions with Okafor and without Noel or Grant, teams shoot 31.3% from 3 (134 fga), 61.3% at the rim (191 fga), and 79.3% from the charity stripe (208 fta). In 1311 possessions with Noel and Grant teams shoot 31.3% from 3 (316 attempts), 60.2% at the rim (361 fga), 74.8% from charity stripe (341 fta).

The noticeable difference seems to be defending without fouling, also, teams shooting considerably better from the free throw line when they get there. With consideration, both Noel and Grant commit more fouls and specifically shooting fouls than Okafor does in the aforementioned line ups.

If you compare their DRTG's from New Years onward, Okafor by himself is actually only marginally worse than Grant and Noel. 107.5 to 106.2. Weigh recency how you would like.

I don't think suggesting he be involved in a trade is "giving up on him." Anybody should be available in a trade if we can get someone better. If you project Simmons or Ingram as a better player, you do it. If not, you don't. It shouldn't be that complicated. We want to get the best possible building blocks in this stage of the rebuild. I just hope Hinkie/Colangelo make the right calls.

I like Jah a lot, but i certainly would trade him for a better franchise cornerstone.

Agreed.

Giving up on a player is when you trade him for lesser assets.

Trading a great prospect for a great prospect isn't giving up on someone.

My pet peeve is when they call players other than the top 2 or 3 untouchable.

I'll trade anyone to improve our team.

I don't watch much college basketball, so I don't know that I could tell you who will be better out of Okafor and Ingram.
