Best version of the team next year probably involves bringing the starters and a few of the bench guys, operating as an over the cap team and hopefully getting good value with the MLE, and getting some production out of this years' rookie class (Bolden, Shake, Zhaire) and next years' (the first and two high 2nds)

I'd certainly go through the motions of checking out Durant, etc., but our current roster, properly developed and deployed, along with a good complimentary glory seeking vet, could very well win it all. Just keep a better handle on Biids regular season wear and tear and prioritize Ben expanding his game, some, and we're good.

If they are committed to bringing the gang back, I wonder if they'll look to move J Simmons for a useable bench guy from a team looking to clear some space

J simmons is only 1M guaranteed if he is waived before July 1. The sixers can just waive him directly.

Hence why he'd have value to a team looking to clear some space...

Makes sense. And he could conceivably be agreeable.

The need him as more of a matchup-dependent weapon. He is a great fit offensively, but as he ages and we improve, his role needs to decrease.

Getting a SG who can shoot at a good clip and defend well would take this team to another level imo. I would dump Redick and focus on getting one of Lamb, KCP, Ross, Bullock, Hood, Ellington etc and pair them with the big four.

That’s my hope.

Did they? I thought the whole reason Cleveland hung onto JR was to use him for that reason

Run it back and add Pat Beverley.

The next 4 years it's a wrap.

They did but it does not apply to contracts signed before the new CBA. I don't recall offhand whether Simmons falls under the exception.

Yes. I understood the skepticism before, because he seemingly didn't give a **** in the regular season, but this is exactly the type of player we were hoping for. There's years of proof of production, as well.

I've gone on about how little mileage he actually has for somebody his age -he's in the lower minutes played bracket- he's played how much you expect role players to have. He also doesn't overly rely on his athleticism. Think it's a good investment even if you have to ignore how he plays in the regular season to get what you're actually paying for. Maybe Embiid should take a page from his book - playoffs are all that matter.

They still need to try and squeeze him for some giveback, leverage the playing some PG on a winning team thing... but it certainly doesn't look like it's going to be much.

Out of those available, who do you think would gel with the big four the best SH?

On a slightly different note, through the playoffs and Jimmy's great play so far it's been predominantly him and Joel as the main guys at the podium after games. I wonder how Ben feels about getting nudged out of the spotlight.

If he doesn't like it MAYBE he needs to learn, you know, how too shoot a ball.

But honestly, I feel like he doesn't give a ****.

Ben right now can be our Draymond Green ( with better playmaking and transition offense and worse shooting).

If we make a deep run, that's not a bad place to be for a 2nd year player who can't shoot at all.

This offseason he has to expand his game if he wants a bigger role.

Do you really chance offending him and him walking for nothing to try to save a little bit of money for the owners? Philly will be over the cap, shortchanging him isn't going to help bring in talent. At this point, Philly has to sell themselves to vets looking to try to win a championship and are willing to sign for or near the minimum.

Yep, he will be up there when he deserves it, this isn't the all star game.

If he wants up there, earn it.

You can't clear space anymore by trading for a guy with non-guaranteed money then cutting him in the new CBA. That loophole is gone. So he'll likely be cut.

I expect we try to re-sign Scott, perhaps Boban, and then add a couple more guys via the midlevel. Perhaps Ennis could play his way into our future plans as well.
