Our team last season was actually quite good. Until injuries and tantrums happened.
Dont get me wrong, we’re better this season and I expect us to have a much better record.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Whoever leaves the Cavs will probably be a Net and probably start for them.
None of them can guard Jojo anyway so I guess it won't matter in the grand scheme of things for us.

Last year can basically be divided into before and after Horford injured his knee around the start of December and lost just enough mobility where he was no longer compatible with playing with our two best players at the same time. I don't know exactly when it happened but it was more or less right around that 21 game mark.
Through that 15-6 start: Embiid, Simmons, Horford - 179 minutes 106.0 offensive rating 93.5 defensive rating +12.4 net rating
The reason of the season: 253 minutes 93.8 offensive 103.4 defense -9.6 net
Obviously injuries to Simmons and Embiid caused them to lose more games but once Horford lost a step they weren't the same team even at full strength.
I'd also say this team has more avenues at its disposal to improve the roster than last year's. Last years didn't have a First until the very end and didn't have much expirings, fillers, or attractive young players besides Thybulle.

Re: Official 2020-21 Season Thread #1: To Beard or not To Beard?
I saw a tweet this morning positing that 3pt defense is the most important aspect on the defensive end this year because 3FG% is up due to no crowds.
I wonder if our success this season can in some ways be attributed to the same thing. I'd like to think that's an overrated factor, but how much has someone like Tobi elevated their game because there's not as much pressure? Hopefully not too much, if at all.

I think no crowds affecting defense is not due to no pressure from fans but because the arena is so quiet, players can communicate much better on defense.

There's no shot the Cavs buy out his contract at this point. He's got like 3-90 left.

We're 16th in 3 point shooting percentage and 17th in opponents 3 point shooting percentage after being 9th and 17th last year. Doesn't seem very fluky overall.

Tobi was never getting voted in. We're in the popularity contest phase (glares at Russ)

If Tobi is not voted by the coaches as an all star reserve, we riot.

Re: Official 2020-21 Season Thread #1: To Beard or not To Beard?
Hey just quickly this may sound stupid but for me the defensive schemes currently in place for all NBA teams on the perimeter is borderline ridiculous in my eyes.
Offensive Player “A” Breaks down the perimeter defense with a drive or pnr. Somehow the wing defender gets sucked into the space thus leaving an open 3 or a slightly contested 3 on the perimeter to a different person getting a kick pass on the outside.
In my eyes the person defending the offensive player and the Big Man should be more than enough. Especially for our team having elite All NBA wings and an Elite rim protector.
The amount of times I’ve seen Harris/korkmaz/Milton close out to defend the perimeter three because they got sucked into the play is downright atrocious. I’m happy to give up a midrange shot if the player driving contextually speaking isn’t that crash hot at it.
My defensive scheme would be no shooter on the outside should ever have more than two meters of space when the ball is getting pass to him.
We have great rebounders in Embiid/Simmons/Harris. Who cares about the fast break when transition scoring isn’t even 25% of the overall scoring.
We got lit up in the third quarter because this defensive scheme is flawed. But it goes for every team.
Might sound like a rant but I digress.
Also trapping or zoning subpar ballhandlers/shot creators can choke the offense down leading to turnovers/bad shots.
(leaving the superstar of the team to iso more times than not with not much time on the shot clock).
I dunno I guess but leaving someone like Joe Harris alone when he gets a pass when Irving/Harden is breaking it down our sub average defenders won’t do a thing to affect the shot.
Below average defenders end up in “no man’s land a ton of times. It’s very exploitable because they get sucked in time and time again. (This is for all teams btw).
