All his highlights are on ball in the G-League. Nothing off-ball and if you are giving him the ball in the NBA there's something seriously wrong with your roster construction.

He's nowhere close to Thybulle as a player in the roles they each would be asked to play.

He did, but your first point is huge. Seeing young players getting opportunities and thriving, even on some of the better teams around the league, is incredibly frustrating.

I'm done with Glenn anyway - if he is permitted to finish this season, which is a lock, it will be just another wasted year of Embiid's prime. Then it comes down to whether ownership and Morey have the stones to can him this summer after another second round finish.

The Doc situation is yet another example of the Sixers being a dysfunctional organization. We hire a coach before we hire a GM, give him a huge multi-year contract, and now we’re too cheap to fire him.

I don’t have a huge issue with Doc at this point but it’s still a messy situation. The internal politics and dysfunction of the Sixers has & will force us to make sub-optimal basketball decisions.

if Doc is bad in developing guys then how come almost all alphas and non alphas he handled had their best years and guys like SGA and Maxey were given large roles on their rookie years?

Doc wont get fired. Its not like we got the next Paul George or Giannis in Isaiah Joe or Reed that the opted to play vets for them.

Doc’s performance so far..
1st year: 1st in the east
2nd year: got this team afloat despite all the ben drama and without Harden or Ben
3rd year: one of the top defensive and one of the top offensive teams

On top of that:

Allowed us to get several role players for cheap like Niang and Drummond.

Tobias’s played at his best
Maxey’s played at his best
Harden played winning basketball (one of the top in ISO and leads the league on assists)

Kid looked good last night. Still, I think a fair projection for him might be Deanthony Melton. Melton shot a similar 3FG% in his early years.

I don’t Springer is likely to develop real shot creation ability.

Maybe. Smart has better innate point guard instincts, and he’s even stronger, though Springer is strong for his size. Springer seems better for a third guard glue role, providing supplemental playmaking, rather than playing the 1. Springer might end up a better shooter though: he’s got a quicker release than Smart.

The comp I’d give him is GP2. Limited offensive player that can get by on athleticism and intelligence. Top tier point of attack defender capable of swinging a playoff series.

Well, until we get a look at him in an actual game for longer than 10 minutes, we can only speculate. Doc turned Paul Reed loose last year against the Pistons and he had a great game. I think he will do the same for Springer at some point. I was very impressed with how athletic he is to go with his build. There's a lot to like about him. He's playing every day in the G League so it makes sense to leave him there and let him just continue to play and get the experience. I think eventually he'll become part of our rotation in some way. Right now we're loaded at the guard position, able to go four deep if needed. It's a nice problem to have if you ask me because it gives us some flexibility in trades if we ever decide to explore them.

Yeah, a version of Melton is the projection I keep envisioning, too. Mixed with a little Josh Richardson. Springer has basic playmaking talent and some strong defensive abilities. Like those other two players, needs the jumper to tie everything together and make him a nice, covetable role player.

Springer is a 6"4 power forward who stopped growing at 14 and adds nothing else. How the hell did this happen? He literally was fully grown at 14, no growth since then - and the Sixers drafted him in the first round 5 years later? Other teams must have spat their coffee out when they saw that **** show.

There is nothing to suggest that he will ever be an NBA player, let alone justify his pick and salary. Terrible pick, need to move on if the owners are serious about winning a championship. There are 20 players in the NBL in Australia that would add value to the roster, Springer is just a pure list clogger.

I also doubt whether he will develop his playmaking/shooting enough to force his way into a NBA rotation, but the comparison with Zhaire is off. Springer was way more of a driving guard than Zhaire Smith ever was.

Double the amount of shots per 100 pp, double the AST%, double of 3PA per 100 pp, etc.

Pretty high imo. I don’t think we’ll make any significant trades and he still has enough potential to avoid being a throw in to make salaries match on a minor deal.
